Probably my post about an article of an Italian doctor claiming so.. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-italy-virus/new-coronavirus-losing-potency-top-italian-doctor-says-idUSKBN2370OQ

Yes, ICUs seem to cope, although positives go up. Better testing, better early treatment and possibly another mutation. I haven't checked nextstrain in ages, maybe there's something visible there: https://nextstrain.org/ncov/global

Or it could simply be that the virus has claimed the low hanging fruits. Elderly, immuno-compromised, etc.

i remember this article by the Italian doctor from June and it seemed that many just dismissed it out of hand. This isn't a potentially very serious flu (worse than the Asian and Hong Kong, but no as bad as Spanish one); it's the black death. Everyone run and hide.

They just posted a case of a returnee who cleared quarantine only to fall ill a few days later while out of quarantine and when tested is now positive.......stay tuned.  Asymptomatic folks walk amongst us.

I think every country that has been touting 0 local cases have been in denial about this and there is this very low level pool of mostly non-infectious/mildly infectious cases circulating. I don't think it's really something to be worried about, but the hysteria has been ratcheted up to a fever pitch by governments and the media.

Nippon, Qatar and Cathay Pacific all have commercial flights to Australia plus the Embassy has organised five flights to Sydney for August (every Sunday), flights to Sydney are limited to 30 passengers.

In view of that the Embassy will not provide letters.

    Source: Aust. Embassy website Bangkok

Do you speak for the Australian Embassy? Can you see into the future? They say that now, and they also said that in mid-July. At the end of July they changed their policy. Many Embassies have flip flopped back and forth throughout this epidemic. In the end, we are all just speculating. We'll see what they do at the end of Sept.

The only restrictions to arrivals I can see are for

Though you will have to pay for quarantine. You can travel to a different state and travel to one of those, not easily, but you can.

this applies to Australian citizens and permanent residents.

If there are other limitations for Australians And PR please post them.

I don't know precisely, but I have heard this limitation on passengers from other Aussies trying to get back posting in the forum, which in turn limits availability of flights and creates flight cancellations. I would expect them to be able to get embassy letters when the end of September rolls around.

Actually they were on the ship for a long time. Cruise starts Jan 20, first case Feb 2, in Tokyo bay for 27days, and disembarked in Sydney March 19. Almost 2 months for the whole ordeal. That is why some use this example as the natural progression of covid in society since the ventilation system and close quarters meant that people cannot be truly isolated. Michael Levitt uses the Diamond Princess as the basis for all his statistical calculations on covid.

According to him and others, the people who were going to get infected got exposed and infected; it wasn't like it was going to go until everyone had a severe case of the virus.

On the other hand, who needs the Immigration when the country’s borders are closed for 6 months and will be closed even longer? And what might be their function at the moment? To squeeze out of the country the only tourists Thailand currently have? This is why the government has overridden the Immigration’s initiatives for three consecutive times. Hope they will do it again in September.

It's like they act like they are the Border Patrol...and their job is to search and destroy.

0.37725680409593104 only because the experiment was stopped in a short time frame don't forget! This is over a period of a week or two. Personally, I wouldn't want to be in an environment where every couple of weeks 1 in 265 died There is only 50 weeks in a year so if you kept this petri dish experiment going (and assuming no increase or decrease in infection rate which not going to happen) now your figures don't look so rosy, by the end of a year of this total would be 50 x 0.377% so 10-20% fatalities in a year in such an environment. Of course this is a wild guess and could be way of the mark in either direction but it isn't a static 0.377 which so many people seem to forget. The time period has to be taken into account too.

Haven't seen much creative or innovative thinking from all the experts, if there is can someone let me know.

I will say it, but know that I will have some come and bash me over the head quickly with the death rate from their early nursing home failures (since corrected), Sweden....Interviews with main Swedish epidemiologist, Anders Tegnell, and other Swedish researchers/physicians are available only. and I can provide links to them.

Yes, I do understand that , (I have posted that myself previously) .

Just to clarify things , I expect the Cabinet to instruct the immigration to do as I stated in post #16

You may be right. It seems that things are still very fluid now as in July it didn't seem that Thailand would keep itself closed until Mid 2021 and write off high season 2020 completely. I don't know if people in Taiwan expected its government to waive its own 180 day rule.

I think most of us don't want to go home,as the virus is very bad in our home countries. It would

be very nice if the Thai Government would would grant us another amnesty as we don't have the

virus. Failing that, with Thailand handling the virus so good an other countries in our area doing

so well there must be some light on opening the borders or at least airports.

Or allow us a simple in country option to pay and extend our visas. That would be ideal.

IMO , Thai immigration will do as what they previously stated , that any more Visa extensions will only be done with a request letter from your Embassy , stating you are unable to fly home .

AS its possible for many of us to fly home, Embassys will nor provide those letters .

The reason why an amnesty was given last time was to prevent people attending immigration offices and spreading the virus . Schools , public transport and shops were closed down to prevent the spread of the virus , now that these have all opened up again, there is no reason to keep immigration offices closed  and people who are still stranded in Thailand can get a letter from their Embassy and go to I.O and get an extension

It's not about immigration, and it's not their decision. It's the cabinet. The cabinet and MOFA have all the power in this decision, and as they did the last 2 times, can overrule immigration (do you understand this?). Having said that, you may be right.

  12. Still desperately trying to get back to Taiwan. This news just in from Taiwan concerning the 6 month rule for tourists. They have waived the 180 day rule due to the pandemic and given a second free extension to them.. Not saying Thailand will do it, just that it is interesting.

In a nutshell, many experts have said masks help a bit (more than no mask) and some have said masks are worthwhile/help a lot

Bottom line - even if masks only help a bit then why not wear the mask. Also the shape, how much of the face the mask covers, can the droplets/aerosols escape out the side, how often the wearer pulls the mask down and leaves it down and especially when they shouldn't pull the mask down, must be factors re how effective masks are.

Actually that's not completely true. Some say that if worn improperly they can be harmful. Anyways, I believe they are effective and I wear them.

I'm going to make a wild assumption that you are both American and a Trump supporter. Just wear a mask and then you might drop below 50k cases a day, and stop reading nonsense.

Lol. Complete rubbish. Why don't you read people's posts before spouting nonsense. I said I believe in masks and that I wear a mask. Lol!

The problem that keeps arising is that the Thai partner joins them in the room but insists on popping out to "buy things" which of course makes the whole thing useless.

I lnow of two guys that did just the above & only when I asked about did the penny drop.

But the partners did not get challenged which surprises me

In ASQ? How could they do this? They are in monitored quarantine. Impossible.

This never made much sense to me. Married or not, the sole point of quarantine is to be isolated from anyone else.

I have friends who have been repatriated by their company to China and are currently quarantined in Tianjin. Absolutely no room sharing no matter if it's your partner, wife, brother or siamese twin (chainsaw provided in the latter case). ????

But they already live together when abroad. This is unnecessarily strict.
