Interestingly, I discovered that because I had used my pink ID to register for a TIN, (and it's the same number), the TRD officer said that was not registered with my bank, (which is correct, as I only obtained it earlier this year), so it is not specified on the Tax Cert, and this caused a delay, as they couldn't reconcile it. Without it, there is no digital connection between bank and TRD, (despite the claims of CRS & FACTA being able to monitor every transaction). Anyway, I guess we'll wait to see how the last TRD ambiguous blah about the need for tax filing in this tax year, and perhaps it will all have died a death, as some suggest from the unclear statement, and we go back to how things were pre Por.161 & Por.162.

I have now received an SMS saying that TRD are sending me a Form K.21 tax refund notification by mail. I think a Form K.21 is an authorisation that I have to complete and take to K Bank for the refund. I tried to find a sample of K.21 on the TRD site, but it states "no result". Honestly it's a rather worthless palaver (2 months after filing online).

I hailed a cab on Silom on Wednesday. Got in, and told the driver my destination, in Sathorn. He said THB200, so I got out. I walked a few metres to Thaniya Plaza, called GrabCar and a Toyota Camry (usually used for Grab Car Premium) arrived within 8 minutes. Total fare, including Ride Cover and Card fee THB100. Using an agent for EOS legitimately is akin to paying for Fast Track. Been doing it for about 5 years. I provide bank letter, verified savings passbook, photos and the agent picks up from my home with my passport the day before the visit to IMM. I'm usually at IMM for about 20 minutes, and I get the EOS and Multiple Re-entry in my passport delivered back to me the next day, (sometimes the same day). The agent's work is a price worth paying (for me).

It seems even the experts are just as confused (per email from Expat Tax). The head of the Revenue Department needs to sit down, discuss with advisors, make an unambiguous decision, and publish it. We've had 21 months of ambiguity, panic, contradictory information from the Revenue Department staff in different offices, or even the same office, most completely untrained in the nuances of DTAs etc. This Thai Examiner article is certainly more detailed than the BP article, which made a confusing situation more confusing. The writer of that one may need to consider another career choice. But none the less, until an unambiguous decision is made (and enacted in law and published in the Royal Gazette), the result of uncertainty that has ensued is now all too visible to see, through the reduction of tax revenue by THB20 Billion. Until it is, that figure could certainly go northwards.

Submitted all of that for my partner's filing more than 2 weeks ago through the e-filing, and accepted, but pending. A large backlog, as you say. I imagine they may have underestimated their personnel requirements after Por 161 & 162. My e-filing on 31 March was acknowledged the same day, but today is the first response, so about 90 days.

And this new law, once, or if it gets passed, will have the same effect. There is a lot that can happen between now and the enactment of law, and the government is looking more wobbly than previously. Again, an uncertainty that will achieve the polar opposite of the intention.

That's how I read it. It is a "pause", but the previous change in interpretation in Por 161 & Por 162 will now take effect in 2027: Under the new guidelines, Thais with foreign income will not be taxed if they remit that income in the year it was earned or the following year. For example, if income is earned in 2025 and brought into Thailand in 2025 or 2026, it is not subject to tax. However, if the income is remitted after that period, normal tax obligations apply. I imagine that any transfers, THB800K, THB400K (for marriage) and monthly THB65K all now have potential tax liability, if source of funds is post January 2024.

I don't leave any food out, or unwashed used dishes, but after dinner, and before I go to bed, I take a glass of water from the fridge for my nightstand. When I go into the kitchen (which is without light in my absence) there have recently been a host of very small cockroaches, (about the size of a thumbnail, or smaller), which scatter when I turn the light on. In the morning there is no trace of them, despite the "cockroach motel" poison left in various places, which they are supposed to consume and return to their nest, killing off the colony. They have diminished in number since the motel was laid out, but for every one we see there are probably 100 lurking somewhere. They are probably attracted to any miniscule crumbs or liquid that have accumulated from the preparation of dinner and the consumption thereof. And the kitchen floors and counters are thoroughly cleaned every day.

Yes, I too have tried Teams as the alternative to Skype, but it in no way replicates it, as in being able to make cheap voice calls to landline numbers, (typically banks etc). There must be a better alternative, but I haven't come across it yet.
