  1. However the strange thing is I am, after many many years in Asia ,a little home sick for the UK ...not really for me but for the kids .. to share snow , steam fairs , local village shows , fish and chips in the street ,banger racing on a Sunday , the Lake district walks , bonfire night , ...why has this suddenly started entering my head ..no idea ??.

I still live in Thailand, and have no intention to move, because I love my life here.

However I fully understand you getting homesick. Happens to all of us.

Forgetting the bad things and idolizing the things we used to like.

My remedy is to return twice a year to my home country to get my reality dose, and

I always find that the things I missed most are not so special as I remembered them to be, except

for food off course. One week each time is more than enough for me.

And remember getting older means more memories.

    My 2 cents

  2. Can anybody recommend cheap bungalows or hotels in Ao Nang! e are going over from 27 december till 11 januari befopre moving on to other islands! Our budget is 1000 baht.

    Thanks very much!

The only place I can think of in that price range in the peak season is

Dream Garden Hostel. Is currently being renovated, nice people, basic rooms with TV, Aircon or Fan and fridge.

    cheers

  3. Made up my mind over 40 years ago, after flying on a charter flight (now called budget).

Haven't flown any since, and never will.

They are two different types of airline actually. Budget airlines operate on a regular schedule but without the extra frills of a regular airline (meals, etc). Charter airlines are hired by tour companies and can be anything from no-frills to luxurious.

OK fair enough. Shows you how much I know about either. Won't change my mind though.

    cheers

Just before arriving Bangkok take outer ring road (Highway nr 9). Then highway nr 1 to Saraburi and there highway nr 2 to Korat.

  5. Do you find that vegetarians have unusual personalities and act or are a little different from non-vegetarians?

i am convinced they act different. those pure vegetarians i know are much less tolerant in each and every respect than meat-eaters.

Agreed, to be fanatic about anything is wrong.

  6. Of course the Nokia people don't care. They get their wages whether they work for it or not.

The small shopkeeper has to make a living. That's the difference.

It's the Thai attitude towards their employer, and the fact that nobody takes responsability or

pride in their job. Unfortunately the big companies don't seem to be able to address this.

    My 2 cents

  7. I'm a guest here, I don't make policy, I follow it, I don't make enemies, I make allies, and I don't have baht bus drivers chasing me down and threatening me over 5b. :o

Ah yes, what would we do in this world without the followers. Being a leader is so unique, dangerous, and it's diffiucult to live under moral codes and such. Yes, what would we do without all the little followers who follow.

    What would we do?

    Live happily ever after?

  8. One way of getting an instant cool is turn on the air-con in the bedroom full belt...jump into a cold shower..don't dry off and enter the cold bedroom wet.....great for an instant short-term cool down! :D

If you knew this, why did you ask? :o

Anyway going to a movie gives you abt 2 hrs :D

    Welcome to Thailand and ThaiVisa.

Thailand is certainly one of the safest destinations.

As already suggested use common sense and you'll be fine.

If I were you I would also consider Krabi - stunning scenery! Highly recommended!

    Enjoy your stay.

    cheers and good luck

  11. Many TV members report bad experiences with Thai women, which according to them justifies all these dishonest measures --- but when you see the crap personalities some of them display, you have to wonder why their relationships fail. :D

Exactly, and nobody is going to admit it. :o

    Good post

    cheers

  12. I think most any Asian that could pass for Thai would be allowed the lower price. Obviously, that would include many Chinese, Malays, Filipinos, Indonesians, Cambodians, Burmese, Viets, etc. Sorry, nice try, but no cigar. This is the kind of racism where your own race is given preference over all other races.

Proves my point exactly, if they look Thai they get Thai pricing.

    cheers
