  1. Wasn't you waving at me and rambling incoherently outside 7/11 this morning, was it?
  2. Probably confuses some on here who think it's a new member.
  3. I think you will find that is 'plain' nasty.... I'm joking Richard, just couldn't resist 😂
  4. You don't have a boat? Not even a small 4 berth yacht? Peasant.....
  5. A lot of misinformation contained within this thread from various parties. I would agree with one of the comments to use Hargreaves Lansdown. You can transfer your entire pot to them and you do not immediately need to decide what to do with the money. It would involve transferring any holding within a SIPP. You can leave it sitting there as cash until you decide what to do. I have done this myself and transferred various pension to them and also contributed directly to my SIPP. You do not have to buy an annuity with your entire pot. That is an option. You could decide to buy an annuity with, say, £100k to cover guaranteed outgoings. You could choose to leave the remainder in cash (yes, they do pay interest on cash holdings) or invest in cautious funds or bluechip dividend paying companies. There are numerous annuity options available (all within the Hargreaves platform). flat level for life, guaranteed for a number of years, built in increases per annum etc. There are obviously sliding scales of return depending on which option you take. You could probably achieve between 8% decreasing to 4% depending which option you decide to take. Hargreaves also offer a 'health declaration' whilst seeking annuity quotes. The more health issues you have the higher the annuity income. Don't forget though, with some of the options, you will lose the pot if you suffer an untimely demise. At least if the money (or partial pot) is invested, you can detail a nominee for your remaining money to be paid to. You provide the nominee details to Hargreaves Lansdown. They have no contractual obligation to do so but will respect people's wishes to the full extent they can. There is also the option to move partial amounts of the pot into drawdown whilst receiving 25% tax free lumps. Once in drawdown, you can then withdraw an income from the drawdown pot. I would advise against moving it all at once. Just move/take what you need. This also provides the benefit of allowing the SIPP pot to continue to grow, thus enhancing any future tax free amounts. Be aware that there is an annual charge to hold within Hargreaves Lansdown of circa 0.45% per annum, collected monthly. There is no charge for holding cash and holdings of shares are capped per annum at a lower level. If you require any further information, please send me a personal message. I beg you not to listen to much of the misinformation already posted. Lastly, I had a pensionwise telephone discussion around 18 months ago. I didn't personally find it of much use but they will explain your options.
  6. Hugely reduced chance of getting his money back if he got rid of them.
  7. I hope I die peacefully and suddenly like my uncle Dave did. Not screaming in terror like the passengers on his bus.....
  8. Makes you wonder just how much is getting out of the country though if 'they' can afford to lose consignments as large as this and the previous couple of busts at Samui airport. Over a third of a ton in the last four or five days.
  9. I thought that cannabis was legal in around three quarters of USA states for medicinal purposes and about half the states for recreational use.
  10. I can only assume that they had not heard the news that there had been a couple of major busts at Samui airport in the previous few days. If they had, and they still tried it, then they are even more stupid than I give them credit for.
  11. I would speak to them. I would tell them to get a proper job. I don't think this topic is going to get you surging back up the leaderboard. Must do better.
  12. You have a beard? That's it. We're done. I can't take you seriously anymore.
  13. That's the one. There is a small display case on your right as soon as you enter. Has the chocolate and cream eclairs. Bottom of that display case was the dark chocolate blocks. Had milk chocolate aswell.
  14. Ah, I didn't mention those that I dislike. Merely those that I despise....
  15. I understand that it has been gloriously balmy in the UK presently? Got to head back myself in a week or so. Cut the grass, bit of weeding and all that. 👍
  16. Or he could be assassinated if he gets a bit too above his station? Wouldn't be the first time it has happened in the USA.
  17. I'm just glad you didn't ask me to name them as that could get me in a whole heap of trouble. And no, I won't, even if you do ask.
  18. Good question Bob. There are three posters on here that I utterly despise but I think hate is too strong a word. I hasten to add, you are not one of them. I never thought I could feel such utter disdain for people I have never met. However, just from their posts I know I would have no time for them in real life. I have met people that have given the vibe that they have the same feeling for me. We can't all get on though, can we? I've decided to let it go. Generally, I don't like most people unless they give me a reason to think otherwise. I accept that the boot might be on the other foot aswell. I can live with that. Too many knobs about. I'm totally comfortable with my opinion and situation. It suits me well. Also, in response to part of your question, do we need to overcome it? Hate can be good as positive vibes can be focused elsewhere. Better than complete indifference.
  19. Not exactly an abundance of free range, corn fed chickens available in Thailand though are there? Still better to cook your own at home but you are still reliant on the source. There is a butcher near me when I'm in the in the UK who sells superb chickens. £24 a go. Not within everybody's price range and I wouldn't pay it. Nudging £10 per head for a home cooked Sunday roast with all the trimmings.
  20. And why is that then? Please explain your reasoning as to how it should work. Do they get to pick and choose the most financially beneficial outcome? If so, in your reasoning, then they are financial migrants, not asylum seekers. Be very interested to hear your spin on things.
  21. There was me thinking asylum was stopping at your first port of call that offered safety and sanctuary. Not ducking, diving and scamming your way through half a dozen plus countries until you arrive at the perceived (and currently true) land of 'milk and honey'.
  22. I had one from Makro on Samui the other day. It was branded as 'Chef (some name or the other)'. I don't know if all Makro's have the same or whether it was a local tie-up. It was ok but can't say more than that. Didn't enjoy the skin which I usually find to be the best bit if I cook it myself. I prefer to buy chicken thighs, season them myself and cook them low and slow in the oven. Very forgiving and never seem to dry out. Best whole chickens I have had on Samui have been cooked roadside on a turning spit and have that authentic taste of diesel fumes with a little added gravel chucked up by the passing trucks.
  23. You are on the mark at the moment. Coming myself from not too far from London I think those numbers will be reversed in the not too distant future. Those numbers are already reversed in a large number of towns and cities in the UK.
  24. Thank you for posting this. I was considering buying an Artemis US small caps fund as recommended by my UK investment platform. In your opinion, is now a buying opportunity or is there still a way to fall? I do invest a partial amount of my portfolio in global small caps when the time is right. UK small cap funds have served me well when investing at the right time. Any feedback very welcome.
  25. I was in the French bakery this morning near the corner of Jomtien beach road ( name escapes me) but near Tinnie's pies. I noticed they had some dark chocolate in the display cabinet alongside some of their more exotic pastries. They were in clear cellophane packets so I'm assuming home made. 140 baht for a decent size bar but it didn't display the weight (maybe 100g). I might give one a try next time I'm in getting a baguette.
