Not accepting foreign credit cards
Wrwest replied to maxx58's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I use my Capital One (Visa) at my Honda Car Dealer here in Chiang Mai exclusively without issue. -
Louisiana Republicans Move to Criminalize Possession of Abortion Pills
Wrwest replied to Social Media's topic in World News
One could only hope. That said, if then the Democrats do not move forcibly to address the issues most affecting the working middle class, I am all for looking to a different political system (perhaps more akin to the European Parliamentary system or a real 3rd party growth). -
I have not read through all the replies so, apologies if you have it fixed. OK, you did the test (and I assume reset the circuit breaker on the lower left of the water heater pictured). Next I would go and reset the house circuit breaker covering the bath. After that, I would turn off the house bath circuit and take (if here in Chiang Mai) to Amorn for testing and repair. Well, those are the steps I would take in order and I wish you luck.

77 years old, previously torn cartilage and arthroscopy surgery on one knee. It seems the arthritis "flares" at times but mostly not a bother. When the pain occasionally "flares" I pop a little blue pill ... no, not that little blue pill! ... I am speaking of Advil. Works for me.

Phone number to contact WISE
Wrwest replied to JAS21's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I recently used the 1888 908 3833 number quite a bit calling over Skype trying to figure out why I could no longer have Wise withdraw my $2200.00 a month from my Fidelity Investments Cash Account and transfer it into my Bangkok Bank Account. This had worked well for over a decade. Seems that Wise is now using "Plaid" as an intermediary somehow. Look at the Wise website and you will see Schwab, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, etc. are listed ... but not Fidelity. Finally got to talk to a Wise Rep. who found that Fidelity does not allow for "Plaid" to make the withdrawals. End of my relationship with Wise, sadly. Dropped back and now using Wire Transfer from Fidelity direct to my Bangkok Bank Account in Thailand. how does it shake out? Still less than $20.00 to do a transfer. -
The transcripts of what was said were made available so all is public knowledge. That said, I have little doubt that the recordings would be used for political ends by slicing and dicing so as to emphasize hesitation or stammering in answer to the questions. This, I think could be applied to many of us when asked a question and then trying to think before answering .... As the transcript of everything said was made available, I have no issue of exerting "Executive Privilege" under the circumstances.

Examining Trump's Lead Over Biden in Key Battleground States
Wrwest replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I certainly hope your observations make the November election a decided rejection of Trump and his ilk. Unfortunately, I think there is real danger that I am losing my country. Fraught as it is with serious society faults/corruption I still believe in the concept ideals. There is just too much justified frustration/anger and ignorance to be ignored. Both major political parties have yet to show any signs that they recognize serious changes must be made or ... the concept fails. One post recently stated that once the polls close the final results should be declared ... ignorance? Or purposely stating my Absentee Ballot should not be counted as many electoral districts, Absentee Ballot counting/reporting only takes place after polls close ... -
How to lower electric usage to reduce electric bill?

Check if the air conditioner remote has a "dry" setting" appears to consume less electric. -
Trump Pledges to Cut Federal Funding for Schools with Vaccine Mandates
Wrwest replied to Social Media's topic in World News
There is a choice. Take the vaccine or stay out of the public schools so as not to increase the chance of the spread of contagious disease. I am an old American who was given all the childhood vaccines required to enter the public schools which have documented results of reducing illness. But it is your choice ... -
Just stocked up on 4 dozen Oscar Meyer Hot Dogs at Tops but ... I am in Chiang Mai. Sometimes hit or miss if they are in stock . It does tell us that they are being imported to Thailand.

Not sure, Lou. My understanding over the years was age of consent, 15 with Mom/Dad consent, 18 otherwise. My Wife is 26 years younger than I but I would not have considered a long term relationship if she had been below mid 20s-mid 30s when we first met. Of course, if a guy is in his 20s, the age thing might work. I would still advise against thinking permanent relationship based on my having married an 18 year old when I turned 21 (USA). Neither of us were "seasoned" enough by life ...

I have been sorely disappointed in the current social disintegration in the USA. While I am full-time retired in Thailand (cannot afford to live in my own country) I do hold on to a slim hope that the November election will be decidedly a rejection of Trump and his ilk, including those Project 2025 supporters. Should those forces prevail. I will have lost my country. Oh, I will not denounce my citizenship, I have too much regard for my forebears who helped found and form the nation since the 1600s ... but only a very serious matter would see me in the continental USA until the powers of darkness are sent packing. The aforementioned stated ... I hold BOTH the major political parties and the American citizen voters responsible for the current conditions.

Florida's Abortion Ban Takes Effect Sends Ripples Across the South
Wrwest replied to Social Media's topic in World News
If the medically educated, consults a pregnant woman that the fetus is dead within her? If the medically educated informs the pregnant woman that the fetus is not viable, will be stillborn or having developed serious medical complications? Absolutiss demand the pregnancy be carried on ... without regard to the woman's health ... my vote come November will be to return Roe to the status of a Right to medical care as it had been since the 1970s, before the Trump/McConnell SCOTUS. -
I had a Thai lawyer draw up a Thai Will in English and Thai language (statement that in conflict English would prevail). This Will states it covers any/all I own in Thailand. Beneficiary, my Thai Wife. It also states if we die within days of each other (say as a result of a car accident), it is presumed I am the last to die. In which case, my Son in the USA inherits. A separate Will was done in the USA regarding my retirement accounts. Those go to my two Sons in the US. I do not think my US Will is needed as I own nothing other than the accounts in the USA and my Sons are already named as account beneficiaries.

When trying to figure the percentages, figure in not being able to get on the plane to return to the home country for any national healthcare availability (I don't know your home country). I have pre-existing heart issue (everything is fine now). In 2005 heart attack in Chiang Mai (build up scar tissue from earlier by-passes). So, no way to get on a plane and go to USA for any Medicare coverage. Here, total bill was 411,000 baht, Chiang Mai RAM. Ouch!

Driving without valid driver's license in Thailand
Wrwest replied to gerryBScot's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
I would have to recommend against driving without a Driver's License. One accident away from a world of trouble. Use Bolt, etc., not worth the chances here in a country among the top nations in the number of road deaths. Keep in mind ... someone else's fault and you don't have a license ... -
Florida's Abortion Ban Takes Effect Sends Ripples Across the South
Wrwest replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Then I will be clear ... a woman's healthcare, including complications in pregnancy, are not my decisions nor anyone else aside from medical advice. And so I will join the majority on this issue opposing anyone wishing to impose their views on others.
