Same with farang police, Now Chinese police. Of course it won't help Chinese tourism. And hopefully they won't be to pregidist against westerners. But, I would not bet on it. Another nail in the coffin for western expats and tourists.

Thailand military upgrade: Defense Ministry responds to emerging threats
Gknrd replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Nationalism , slowly conditioning the Thai's to want to fight for Thailand. Hence Nationalism. Turning inward, and against the tyranny of the west. The Chinese have been doing it for years. The elite are heading in that direction. But, have been for a few years now. So, nothing new here. They are just ramping up the propoganda, -
Thailand military upgrade: Defense Ministry responds to emerging threats
Gknrd replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
“If they own submarines or F-16 fighter jets, we must have something of comparable capability to counter them. It’s about assessing a competitor’s prowess as a factor for allocating the right budget.” Wow, that is a pretty strong message for western expats to plan an escape strategy. Saying out right they are aligned with Xi, and china's goals 100%. -
Same thing with the forced 800K in the bank. That went so well they decided to notch it up a bit. I did the math behind that. It was insane amounts of money. And the guys here just said , ahhh it is just 800K! IMHO just setting themselves up for the next scheme.. Go back and read the old threads on forced 800K and money in the bank. Now their thinking is, these westerners are idiots and will pay anything to sleep here.

I belong to an exclusive club, it is called the F$ck you club.. What is it? How do you join? 1: You work and save until you pay cash for a home 2: You pay cash for a car in the garage 3: You put money in investments to pay you 6% and generate enough to pay all taxes , utilities, and emergency. Hence, F$ck you Thailand, your taxes, your 800K the works.. Life is good. When you belong to that club nothing bothers you what so ever..

Chinese tourists are returning - but not to Thailand
Gknrd replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
As an odd Indian sexpat, I resent that.. :)) I think the economy in China is in pretty bad shape this year.. They are fighting a housing crisis like the in the US in 2007-8. That was pretty rough. I imagine the Chinese are stuffing their mattresses instead of traveling anywhere.. -
Thai Ministry proposes Clean Air Act to combat rising pollution crisis
Gknrd replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The bill was defeated in the house. The house member said they wanted to vote for it, but the pollution was so bad they could not find their way to the office. -
Agents will meet you at the immigration office to help get your tax certificate stamped by the authorized tax lawyers. Then Agents for your yearly extension will take over to help you get your yearly extension. Then your wife or girlfriend will take over to extract the remaining funds you have left. You guys will be an extremely hot commodity in the LOS's. Now everyone gets a cut of your retirement money, from the government to the bar girl.. The circle is complete. Thailand is smiling again..

Possession of more than 5 meth pills to constitute dealing
Gknrd replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
My mom used to take them for weight loss. -
It will go into effect , it won't matter if it is challenged in court or not. Nightmare to be enforced or not, it does not matter. My guess is they will have authorized tax officials that you will have to get signed off on before you go to immigration for an extension of your visa.

UK pensioners flock to luxury retirement resorts in Thailand
Gknrd replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Just another scam by the people in charge. Reading this thread is a good broad view of opinions. No thought of the long term outcome what so ever... No health card insurance. A joke.. I can see it now. Big Joke racing up to the old folks home with sirens blaring guns drawn and camera crews filming every angle. Headline: "Ridding Thailand of dead beat western overstayers " -
UK pensioners flock to luxury retirement resorts in Thailand
Gknrd replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Places like that are all over Mexico, South America at the same price or cheaper. I am 71 and am looking into places like that if I live to the point where I need allot of care. I am heading to Guadalajara . Close for family in the US and amazing and cheap care compared to the US. In South America you could rent a place and hire full time care with a happy ending if you wanted for that price... Not only that but you don't have to put 800K in a bank and you don't have to do a 90 day report and you don't have to do yearly extensions of stay. Personally if you are in that stage of life you would be an idiot to go to Thailand for that kind of care. All the countries want your money but in Asia the government makes your life miserable. And if in a home? Wow, you could be ejected or have to pay thousands of dollars if you miss a yearly extension of stay. Thailand is a joke for this plain and simple.. TAT knows the power of advertising. And suckers will be suckers. -
