Thailand supplies medium format chips to the US and the world. It is still important to the US. And it shows here. Will be interesting to see how it plays out in the long run. Looks like Xi is pi$$ed for sure. Will Thailand cave and support China more or will it turn and start supporting the US. Fun times ahead. Bottom line is it is getting harder for Thailand to straddle the fence.

Maybe Xi was afraid Prayut was radioactive when he refused to shake his hand. He did seem to have a greenish glow to him. -

Very true, but how do you bring them closer to you? Shaking their hand and making them feel very important. -

Thailands economy is one of the best in SE Asia. China needs Thailand as a trading partner. Not treating Thailand with respect is a serious error IMO.. Acting like 3 year old is not the trait of a great leader IMO. -
PayPal no longer available to foreigners in Thailand
Gknrd replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I am in the process of getting a new passport here in Thailand. The US embassy lets you mail it in and they mail it back.. So easy. I tried to use PayPal on their site for payment and I finally gave up. I did not know they were having problems! I like PayPal because I don't have to give out my credit card info on-line. -
I kinda like it. I use Bangkok bank and the only thing is I tend to spend to much with the App. Other than that it's great. When the dollar to baht was at 38 I pulled a few thousand dollars and put it in the bank. With out it I would be stashing cash everywhere. Or having to buy and use an ATM card.

You need to re read the laws, The woman needs to prove she has the funds not provided by the foreigner., then the foreigner has to sign a paper stating the facts and that he will have no rights what so ever to the property. An easy paper trail to follow. Shareholders???? I have known many who use this. They hire a lawyer and their secretary, or some relative is the share holder. I think the Thai government needs to crack down on this illegal activity and it would benefit the foreigner in the long run. A few hundred thousand would loose their homes and land but it would insure all others would not be suckered into this here. Not only that but the Thai's would be able to repurchase the land. Instead of foreigners. Condo's, what a joke that is. You can buy with strict requirements. Then it is against the law to will it or give it you a relative. You have to go threw the process all over again and the relative has to buy it with the same strict requirements.

What a bunch of nonsense. These guys are just trying to get headlines on a thing that would of never been passed. If these political people wanted to make a difference and actually do some work and put billions of dollars back into the coffers and help the Thai people they would go after the illegal land bought on a daily biassed here in Thailand. When is the last time you heard a headline like: Thai government seizes 10,000 homes and property set up by illegal company's . Thai government seizes 100,000 rai of property bought by women living with foreigners with no work history. Thai government seizes 1000's rai and businesses in the name of juvenile's with foreign fathers And this is in the open and done daily here?

Bottom line is it is illegal to buy land in Thailand, and you don't own any land period. And neither does anyone else here that says they do. I have see it all here. Guys that pay lawyers to open fake business here. I have seen lease land here, then build on it. I have seen guys put it in their kids name. Saw one guy that got back half after a divorce. Even the government says it is against the law to own land here and it is illegal to give the money to your wife or GF to buy the land. Thailand is one of the best places to rent IMO. Great and cheap condos, houses.

One other thing is that if China the second largest economy in the world blockades Taiwan, or invades? Inflation in Thailand will be out of control. Not only here but everywhere. It will just hit Thailand and this part of the world the hardest IMO. The baht won't be worth much. But, even worse is you won't be able to buy what you need to take care of your family. It's just a bad idea all the way around to come here and invest. People with enough money will be able to go back to their home countries and ride it out. But, even then it will probably bankrupt them in the process.

You don't have to be very smart to know when the deck is stacked against you. Just because you and others are spouting how great it is doesn't mean others have not been fleeced.. I have looked into all the options over the years. Not worth it IMO. A condo might be in my horizon one day. But, not until I get to old to travel and enjoy myself.
