  1. If you are from the US then Thailand is out for sure IMHO. I am transitioning out of Thailand now. Flights are outrageous. Won't be coming back anytime soon. Thailand is ok, But, if from the US a big pass. Unfortunately it is not looking good for Thailand in the long run. I have enjoyed my years here, but would not invest a dime here. It's not going to be pretty for the western expats in the coming years.
  2. As a US citizen the medical tourism is out 100% for me. Dental is about the same with state of the art procedures in Mexico. Price wise cheaper after you factor in the travel by far. South America about the same as Thailand IMHO price wise. But, travel time and travel expense is where it kills Thailand and SE Asia as a whole. Last time I was in SA for work I was surprised at the Europeans that were flooding in to take advantage of the Medical (dental, face lifts). I would have thought that SE Asia would be their destination because of travel. But, not the case! Nothing against Thailand what so ever but Medical tourism is way overrated and personally at this point just an advertising tool (living in the past) for TOT.
  3. After a few million Chinese bit the dust from Covid next year and the lockdowns stop for good. It will back to business as usual. Thailand is to predictable at this point. If going to come to Thailand best to enjoy it now. Then vacate to more pleasurable destinations.
  4. I new an older lady that had Gout! Was given a drug and she died a couple of weeks later. I asked the daughter what the drug was and googled it. It was basically homicide IMO. Not one word of a I am sorry from the doctor. People that say come to Thailand for medical care are putting their lives on the line. This lady that died , died one of the most horrible deaths I have ever seen all because of a negligent doctor.
  5. Well impressive show, but in the south if they don't like you the just drop a bomb and drive away. She is setting herself up for some serious trouble IMO.
  6. Yea, and when she plays the next game in the US and starts talking again. We will see her true colors. It will be back to business as usual. How she is mistreated and hates the US.
  7. They are not worth the paper they are written on. I knew a guy from Germany that was pretty poor. I asked him one day how he kept a retirement visa. He told me the letter was a joke. They take it and redo it to show income then submit it.
  8. And in a news story in 10 years from now!! Prayut Chan-o-cha and Xi reflect on the last 10 years of un interrupted rule , and talk about the direction of their country and the great changes they have made under democratic elected rule...
  9. Actually with the Thai demographics. 600 baht is coming sooner than later. And it will rise from there. It will be interesting to see if Thailand can make the transition. But, I suspect it will be in big trouble soon.
  10. Well to be fair. TOT is targeting the right countries for sure. I have read Turkey is poised to be very prosperous in the future.
  11. I have read that in California in the growing area there are killings all the time. A few years ago it was called the killing fields. If there is money involved best to avoid..
  12. Should have no problems attracting 400 of the worlds best. Especially with the great pay and incentives for foreigners.
  13. Cannot beat a deal like this guy got.. Able to get millions ( I assume ) from Red Bull in the last 10 years.. And now gets to enjoy full retirement benefits. Sign me up!
  14. Better chance of China doing away with Covid lockdowns and the moon being made of Mozzarella cheese. And don't get me wrong, I love Mozzarella cheese..
  15. I just got back from a month in Laos. I have never in my life seen so many fake brands at un real prices in my life. I thought Thailand was bad years ago. Laos has cornered the market. China has flooded the market in Laos. It is unreal.
  16. That is one horrible way to die, and a horrible sickness to live with...
  17. Just goes to show the difference in tastes between the rich and poor. My idea of a perfect time is tent camping in a nice park. Hitting the night market for a tasty fish , som tom, and sticky rice dinner. Riding down the river in a 100 baht long tailed boat.
  18. Iran has promised Thailand that it will no longer TRY to carry out attacks on Israeli targets on its soil, according to a report on Tuesday. Hummm, sounds to me they will definitely attack not just try!
  19. I have a investment account in the states. I pay 0 / trade. There are banks that charge as much as 50/trade. And if you have someone manage your money for you it can get pretty pricy. I personally am slowly getting out of the broad market and buying mutual funds with very small management fees. Getting too old now and not near as sharp or enthused as I used to be. I have a mutual fund, now closed to the general public that has paid me 5+ %/yr for the last 20 years. Looking back I would of been better off with a S&P 500.
  20. Yes, that is right. But, 100 bucks is 100 bucks and I am also curious about the commissions here in Thailand. I have a couple of pink stocks, Stocks I bought out of the US, and I cannot remember the commission fees. When my dividends come in they are taxed at 10 percent, and a commission fee is also applied, each time the dividend is paid. Personally I am getting out of one. But, another in Mexico is a real winner for me. So, I put up with the fees.. I personally look at the fees, this is just a blatant rip off IMHO. So personally I would never purchase stocks here.
  21. I see a few new Benz in the driveways..
  22. Exactly right. I was coming in to correct that and you beat me to it... .1% is .001. Thanks
