While there is no official mask mandate in Japan, wearing a face mask is recommended overall. The Japanese government introduced the possibility not to wear it outdoors in summer to avoid heat strokes, but most Japanese citizens still wear masks. Masking is still widely practiced in airports and on flights, but it is no longer required. Mask-wearing and other virus-related rules have never been legally enforced in Japan, and vaccination certificates have not been in wide use.
