What is up with tattoos and tourists / expats here?
Cameroni replied to Maxbkkcm's topic in General Topics
It's also about upbringing. I spoke with a Thai girl from a very poor family, but her uncle was a monk. He forbade to ever get tattoos. So she didn't. Parents and family are important. -

Solar Farm Failures Caused Spains massive Power Cuts
Cameroni replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Meanwhile this could never happen in France, do to the massive use of nuclear power. Yet another example of do-gooder ideology making life worse for everyone else. Obviously the solar plants were the issue. Sanchez has to go. -
What is up with tattoos and tourists / expats here?
Cameroni replied to Maxbkkcm's topic in General Topics
I am stunned, utterly stunned, at the number of young girls on Thaifriendly that have tattoos. At least 30 per cent, probably more. it's really annoying, because sometimes the girl is good looking and you still have to give her a pass because of the tattoos.- 256 replies

New Chinese form of psychological torture rolled out in Thailand
Cameroni replied to Cameroni's topic in Political Soapbox
You won't regret it, they really hit the mango flavour on the head. They got it down. Those crowds at Mixue are annoying, and the wait. Those poor Thai people working there. -
New Chinese form of psychological torture rolled out in Thailand

That Chinese Mixue ice cream is excellent. The Mango Sundae, lemonade and normal cone are also top quality. Sadly none are as good as the melon flavour. They'd just introduced that. Maybe as a trial and it did not sell well enough. I'd asked the guy at the counter, but he honestly said "Company decide, I just give ice cream". Hahahaha,. -

It could be Trump put a tariff on cantaloupe's. Maybe that's it. -
We all know the Chinese have over 4000 years experience in developing torture and psychological warfare methods. Now they have brought their evil ways to Thailand. The Chinese company Mixue was selling melon ice cream for 15 baht a cone, so delicious you'd sell your mother for it. As of today they pulled the melon ice cream completely! No more delicious melon ice cream! Who does such a thing? Mixue, the cruellest ice cream company of all time.

Definitely great news for the US. China's refusal to sell rare earths is less of an issue now

Travel Rising Prices, Broken Systems Dim Thailand’s Tourist Charm
Cameroni replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
It would be surprising if Thai people don't raise prices somewhat. More so if you look at what business in Western countries are doing, prices up a lot. Still, lunch and dinner is still the same as in 2019 here, 50 and 60 baht. They compensate other ways, in my favourite restaurant complimentary peanuts and sauces are gone. Portions seem smaller. But price wise one really can't complain. At least on Chiang Mai. Obviously beach restaurants in Hua Hi Phuketski and St. Pattayasburg will differ in price. -
Travel Rising Prices, Broken Systems Dim Thailand’s Tourist Charm
Cameroni replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
With data from 2025 this website says Thailand is 15% cheaper than Philippines overall. https://www.expatistan.com/cost-of-living/country/comparison/philippines/thailand I have to say when I was in Phil, last time in 2023, it was noticeable that accomodation and food was considerably more expensive than Thailand, but then that was BGC, which is like Bangkok. -
Travel Rising Prices, Broken Systems Dim Thailand’s Tourist Charm
Cameroni replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I've seen it as well, and it's painful to watch, because you know this fat tourist can afford the 50 Baht easily, he's just haggling for kicks, but for the Thai guy that makes a real difference. -
Travel Rising Prices, Broken Systems Dim Thailand’s Tourist Charm
Cameroni replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
The article is not "spot on". In fact it makes some glaring errors. For instance it claims that Philippines is cheaper than Thailand. I have been to Phil many times, it was always way more expensive, particularly as regards hotels, but also dinners, everything really. Not to mention the flight to Phil would be way more expensive for tourists from Europe. So the author seems to have an axe to grind, but the things he writes are not true. Food and massage are commonly taken up by tourists in Thailand, so my comment makes plenty of sense. -
Travel Rising Prices, Broken Systems Dim Thailand’s Tourist Charm
Cameroni replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Oh that's for sure, prices have increased in the last 40 years, whereas people in countries like the UK, Germany, France are all hit with massive energy prices due to political decisions, soaring inflation, job losses, so going to MacDonalds and shopping at Ikea are now luxuries in those countries. I remember when those were markers of low income. However, tourists who go on holiday should be able to afford their holiday. I don't particularly like people who haggle with a market vendor in Chatuchak over 50 baht. If you go on holiday, make sure you have the budget and can afford it. If you can't stay at home. -

You can get apartments with swimming pool in Bangkok for 8000 Baht. That would be impossible in England. https://www.renthub.in.th/en/apartment/with-swimming-pool/bangkok You'll always have examples like this, special offers of a particular item, but you're not comparing like with like, importing from Sweden to England is obviously far cheaper than from Sweden to Thailand. Imported food is obviously more expensive in Thailand. However, the basics, vegetables, fruit, water, meat, rice, all way cheaper. I'm sure it was cheaper 40 years ago, that's only to be expected. However, there is no way in hell that Thailand is more expensive than the UK overall. It's just not accurate. But I do take the point that tourists that stay in resorts and go to beach front restaurants will pay more, that is true of course. -

Well, everyone knows Bangkok is among the most expensive when it comes to accomodation. Phuket is also expensive. I was talking about Chiang Mai, the best place to live in Thailand. Having said that you can still get a great dinner for 60 baht in Bangkok, which you can't get in Bromsgrove. You can get a great massage for less than half than what you'd pay in Bromsgtrove. i don't drink as I don't want a beer belly, so I can't opine on alcohol prices. Even if your rent is the same in Bangkok, I'm sure you'd get a swimmin pool, gym and a much better place in Thailand for the same money. You get more for your money in Thailand. -
Root canal prices in Thailand (and comparisons)
Cameroni replied to NorthernRyland's topic in Health and Medicine
I should mention I have Genki Health Insurance, at 53 it costs 104 Euro per month, and the deductible is 50 Euro. Dental is included, if it is due to pain, ie not aesthetic work. -

power grid failure / blackout in spain
Cameroni replied to save the frogs's topic in Political Soapbox
Make sense, but why has this happened in 2025, because since 1980s at least there has been old electical infrastructure in Spain, and every year temperatures in Seville soar to 40 degrees almost, but no such region-wide incident? A storm okay, sure, but in Spain they say it was just heat? -
Travel Rising Prices, Broken Systems Dim Thailand’s Tourist Charm
Cameroni replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
It sounds like mostly hot air to me. Thailand has superb toilet infrastructure in the malls, better than Malaysia even, visas are reasonably easy for most people. Double pricing only applies in some attractions, and it's fair enough as Thais do make a lot less..Overall Thais are very welcoming and friendly to most foreigners. Yes Anutin doesn't like foreigners, and many Thais don't either, but plenty of Thais understand that foreigners is where the money is and treat them very well.- 192 replies

I don't get this price moaning either. You can get leg of pork with rice for 60 baht, pad thai for 50 baht. Massages are so cheap. What more do people want? It's definitely a thousand times cheaper than in their home countries. And yes, CM is great. Spot on.- 192 replies
