  4. Kunming and Xian China. I visited both in 2023 to escape the heat/smog in BKK. Both had much cooler weather and far cleaner air. Both cities are served by AirAsia and return tickets were about 6000 Baht from DMK.
  5. Perfect answer. I wish I knew this before buying phone that cannot handle esims.
  6. "Poonpong detailed that ... there are significant risks linked to potential shortages in the skilled labour force, especially within the service sector. He warned of the heightened competition from other countries investing heavily in their workforce development, which could pose challenges for attracting foreign investment." Foreign investment is also hindered by high and rising corruption in government.

  10. Here are the OECD PISA and Thailand O-NET test score results. The OECD PISA test is better than the Thai test because it tests active thinking...whereas the Thai NET tests memorization because it is only multiple choice.
  11. Pay.gov works best with Micosoft browser. Recently it did not work with Google Chrome
  12. They said I had to pay 4680 baht for renewal. 4680/$130 = 36. That is, the exchange rate they use is 36 baht to dollar.
  13. Here is a Thai/English form you can take to your bank to get a draft to pay for passport renewal. Just change the Baht amount for your needs. I agree that Pay.gov would be easier...but it is not working now (Jan 8 2024). Maybe it will be fixed? bank draft form Thai_English.pdf
  14. I emailed US Embassy to ask how to pay since Pay.gov is NOT currently working for Thailand. "You may please submit a payment by a bank draft as our office cannot accept any type of bank checks. Please be informed that starting from January 10th, passport renewal fee will be 4,680.-THB payable to “American Embassy Bangkok” Regards, American Citizens Services unit U.S. Embassy Bangkok"
  15. As of early January 2024, Thailand is NOT OFFERED as a choice for online payment on Pay.gov. So I cannot pay $130 fee NOW. I am signed in and I do have an account. Thailand was available last year when others paid online....but NOT this week in 2024. Please see the screenshot below. Please verify on your PC. I am using Win 10 and Chrome. If you can see Thailand as a payment option, please tell me what OS you are using. Thank you.
  16. John Drake. The post office wants to see a picture of your passport you request tracking. Actual passport has not been required in my experience requesting tracking and sending international. They really just want your PP#.
  17. The State Dept. link below says that US passport renewal fees can be paid by personal check... that paying online at Pay.gov is NOT required. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/how-apply/fees.html#:~:text=Applying or Renewing at a Passport Agency&text=Pay using a credit or debit card.,-Credit cards%3A Visa&text=We also accept checks%2C money orders%2C and cash.
  18. The current Embassy instructions are not accurate and do not work,. The $130.00 payment cannot be made online from Thailand on Pay.gov. Thailand is NOT OFFERED as a choice for online payment. https://www.pay.gov/public/form/entry/101/790155895/ Online payment is now required -- but online payment is not accepted from Thailand. What to do now? PS What may have worked in the past is not working now.
  19. LTR Visa Unit reply on LTR annual reporting requirements below. "Dear ____, Greeting from LTR Visa Unit. When you are outside of Thailand, there is no requirement for reporting. However, once you return to Thailand, you must report annually, starting from either the date of visa issuance or the most recent arrival into Thailand (whichever is later). To clarify, you are only required to report to the Immigration if you stay continuously in Thailand for a period of 1 year without leaving. If you leave Thailand before completing 1 year, based on the entry stamp in your passport, there is no obligation to report. Additionally, if you are unable to personally go for reporting, you can authorize someone else to do it on your behalf. LTR Visa holders residing in Thailand continuously for more than 1 year are required to report their current address to the local Immigration office of their residence. This report can be done either in person or by an authorized representative and must be completed annually from the LTR Visa issuance date. However, for individuals re-entering the Kingdom, the report will be due 1 year from the date of the latest arrival. LTR Visa holders can submit the report 15 days before or 7 days after the due date. The necessary documents for this report include: 1. Passport 2. TM.95 Form (completely filled out and signed) [Download link: https://www.immigration.go.th/?avada_portfolio=คำสั่งสำนักงานตรวจคนเข-3 (Page 14) 3. T.M. 6 Card (or arrival/departure card if applicable) 4. 1-Year report notification card (if available)" The following suggests I do not have to report because I travelled internationaly in December 2023 -- 2 months before planned annual reporting. "To clarify, you are only required to report to the Immigration if you stay continuously in Thailand for a period of 1 year without leaving. If you leave Thailand before completing 1 year, based on the entry stamp in your passport, there is no obligation to report." What do you think?
  20. I must do annual LTR reporting in Jan. 2024 and want to know the document requirements. I have emailed this question to BOI but have not received an answer yet. I will post any answer I get here. Reporting requirements for Smart Visa holders (https://smart-visa.boi.go.th/smart/pages/how-to-manage.html) 4.1) 1-year Reporting to the Immigration bureau at the One Stop Service Center for Visa and Work Permit 1. Smart Visa holders staying in Thailand for a period longer than 1 year consecutively are required to report the current address to the Immigration at One Stop Service Center for Visa and Work Permit (OSS) either in person, or by authorizing someone to report for you on your behalf. This report must be done on a yearly basis counting from Smart Visa issuance date (15 days before or 7 days after the date specified on 1-year report notification card). However, in the case of re-entering the Kingdom, the report will be due in 1 year from the date of the latest arrival. The documents required to be submitted to the immigration are as follows. TM.91 Form (completely filled out and signed) Passport T.M. 6 Card (arrival/departure card) 1-Year report notification card (if any) * T.M. 61 Form (For authorized person reporting on behalf of smart visa holder who lives in Bangkok)
