  1. Well, they couldn't have picked a more incompetent person to spearhead the impossible mission.
  2. I like being in full control of my life, I want to know all the parts of the process, and I want to have all the proper paperwork/licenses/etc in my possession. I also want to follow all the rules, and the only way to make sure everything was done properly, is to do it myself.
  3. Have been using the same Kor Ror 22 for the last 7 years, but maybe I'll have the wife update it before my February visit for yearly extension just to be safe. Seems like a few people here are seeing changes, so better to be safe than sorry.
  4. I know my Thai wife needs to be in the US for 5 years before obtaining the ability to get my benefits if I die, but does our child who has US Consular Birth Abroad and a SSN have to be in the US for 5 years? Or is that just for children who don't have the US Consular Birth Abroad Certificate and SSN? Also, if my wife is in the US for the full 5 years and is eligible for survivor benefits, and say we return to Thailand, is she also eligible for Social Security Spousal Benefits based on my SS? I am thinking we would have to stay in the US for her to receive spousal benefits on my SS, but not sure.
  5. Or finally stand up to them, though the Thai sheep seem placated, so that's never going to happen.
  6. First, the people need to stop being sheep and stand up to the powers that be, only then will things change. Looks like the only people in Southeast Asia who got the guts to stand up for their rights are the Myanmar people, hopefully they are successful in eradicating the Junta's grip on their country.
  7. When I think of safety, Thailand is the last place I think of, it is my main issue with the whole country. I could put up with corruption, xenophobia, HI-SO attitudes, double pricing, immigrations, etc.....but the lack of safety while walking on sidewalks, using crosswalks, travelling in cars/motorcycles/buses/boats/etc., breathing the dirty air, eating the poisoned produce (illegal pesticides), poor unregulated construction, poor unregulated electrical systems, etc are issues I am unwilling to accept. Tourist should be warned before coming here how dangerous it is, God forbid they end up in a hospital, or their insurance doesn't payout.
  8. Thai's throw trash wherever it lands, look at the side of roads, empty lots, etc......they care as much for the environment as they do for safety, which is not at all.
  9. He is safer and better paid in Israel than he is working or walking across the street in Thailand.
  10. Man, I need to get into the Debt business, I would have said no more payments needed after they paid back double the cash, and I would have smiled at them and said "great doing business with you".
  11. If you relieve household debt in Thailand, they will just go out and buy more stuff with new loans putting them back in the same debt situation. The objective should be education and limiting their ability to obtain loans (especially for depreciating assets) of which they will most certainly never repay.
  12. It's that fate thing, and since they do it every day, and haven't died yet, it must be safe enough. If they do the same thing a 1000 times, and haven't crashed or died yet, well then why change their ways? They have no problem playing the odds, which leads to lots of dead people. They don't see risk or safety the way we do, and never will. Until there is a real government, one that takes safety seriously, and installs a real police force to enforce the law, things will never change.....Ever.
  13. It's sort of like a poor Thai farmer driving around in a shiny Mercedes or BMW, which he can't afford, it's all about the bling!
  14. If your are a pedestrian, or in a vehicle of any kind in Thailand, your safety means nothing to the Thai public. The only thing they care about is your wallet, your happiness is also less important.
  15. Oh sure make a statement like that after I open a bottle of Shiraz, I could now end up drinking the whole bottle, if my wife complains tomorrow....its your fault :-P
  16. Currently, my wife declares me on her taxes, and uses my Pink ID as the TIN. So as far as filing taxes, I assume I am already doing that, but like I said earlier, I will refrain from sending any money here in 2024, and wait and see what happens to others first. With any luck, they will drop the whole fiasco before I send any money money over after 2024.
  17. I'd rather be back in the USA, I lived in a small town in the Northeast (w/potholes), but I was driving a brand new fully loaded Jeep Rubicon before I came here, it made winter FUN! I miss the slow life back there, Bangkok is like living in Hell to me, I would trade in a heartbeat if my wife and daughter would agree to leave. As you can see, I lost that battle so far, still holding out hope for a miracle though.
  18. Everyone has their problems to deal with, I am going with not sending a dime over next year (2024). The plan is to see what the rest of you go thru first, let the guinea pigs work out the kinks first, then I can decided to bring in more money in 2025 and deal with taxes in 2026, or just move back to the states.
  19. I find the injured counts here to be horrifying, there is only 67 million people here, 1 million people are injured in car/motorcycle accidents every year in Thailand. If those numbers don't scare them, I don't what will.
  20. When I came here in 2016, I think my first one took a week or two longer.....no big deal, like your lawyer said, you are OK.
  21. I got an idea, trade in the BMW's, Mercedes, and Tesla police cars for Toyotas, then put computers and police officers in them, then patrol the streets and enforce traffic laws. What was I thinking, hey Anutin? Pass the the bong!
  22. Wow, they really do believe the citizens are gullible/naive.
