Divorce and runaway kids
Obviously social services weren't involved in the divorce, separating the children is preposterous. As expats we should ensure that our children have up to date passports and speak english, otherwise we are failures as fathers.

What it costs to live in Thailand, on a budget ?
Thanks for reply, actually I have been reading you for a while on this topic, thanks for sharing. Have to say so now that I have started posting. My plan for solar is to install as many panels as possible in places where that are optimally efficient. I will not plan to go "off grid". What I'd like is to cover most of the consumption during daylight and maybe get a backup pack for one or two hours. This would save about half my electricity bill and cover over 90% of the blackouts which here are mostly due to planned day time maintenance or last less than one hour when caused by lightning, wind, etc. Now, I couldn't agree more that an EV should come into the picture. Right now I am running two ICEs a CRV and a Jazz, both ICE. The plan will be to replace the Jazz by an EV and keep the CRV for longer trips. Nice way to go hybrid isn't? I have never like the Hybrid cars as I see them as overly complex, and Emperor Joseph told Amadeus: "too many notes".

What it costs to live in Thailand, on a budget ?
Well, if I take a 4.5k midpoint of your billing range, that's a 100 months payback. So over 8 years without any maintenance charges. Makes it a questionable investment IMHO. I.e when will you need to replace your panels, inverter, etc... Ok, let's not highjack this thread. But I was thinking of getting solar panels, but only of the roofs exposed for maximal yield. Now I am thinking there may be a better use for my [little] money.

What it costs to live in Thailand, on a budget ?
Yeah, some guys would boast about their 162.47 electricity bill and forget to tell that they've just spent half a million on solar panels... My answer to the OP would be 100K if single, 200K to 300K for a family of four. The latter is my situation out in Surin, and I consider my standard of living as modest. But I don't try to compare myself to the locals, as I watch them in amazement.

movie lovers?
You are not wrong, but there is something else about torrenting: I have set up my own media server with Plex, where my downloads are nicely managed. Gives me a flexility that I wouldn't get from Netflix, especially in Thailand where only a fraction of Netflix' catalog can be viewed. Don't tell me my that my media server costs me as much as ten years of a Netflix subscription, I know.

Bedridden man dies after forced ID renewal trip
Easy to fix: euthanise elderlies above a give age. Kidding. But many expats are in the same predicament, with embassies requiring physical presence for passport renewals. Some even require holders to make a second trip to pick up their new documents.

LTR Visa is Now available for Long Term Residency
Got this today from friendly BOI (ignore if redundant): LTR Visa holders staying in Thailand for a period longer than 1 year consecutively are required to report the current address to the Immigration at One Stop Service Center for Visa and Work Permit (OSS) either in person, or by authorizing someone to report for you on your behalf. This report must be done on a yearly basis counting from LTR Visa issuance date (15 days before or 7 days after the date specified on 1-year report notification card). However, in the case of re-entering the Kingdom, the report will be due in 1 year from the date of the latest arrival. The documents required to be submitted to the immigration are as follows. - TM.91 Form (completely filled out and signed) (Download here: https://smart-visa.boi.go.th/smart/document/related/คำสั่งสำนักงานตรวจคนเข้าเมือง_ที่_234-2561_ปรับปรงุแนวทางปฏิบัติ_smart_visa.pdf - Passport - T.M. 6 Card (arrival/departure card) - 1-Year report notification card (if any) - T.M. 61 Form (For authorized person reporting on behalf of LTR visa holder who lives in Bangkok) (Download here: https://smart-visa.boi.go.th/smart/document/related/Report_of_residence_TM61.pdf *T.M. 61 Form (For authorized person reporting on behalf of smart visa holder who lives in Bangkok)

British Nationals Among Many Foreigners Involved in Overstay Crimes in Thailand

How to deal with an overwhelmingly negative opinion of Thai people.
Frankly I tend to be negative about Thailand, but it is more related to the sorry state of the country. I have travelled in Asia for the past 45 years, and during my early years economists described Thailand as one of the "Rising Tigers" of the region. While neighbours made inroads into democracy and its resulting development this place resisted any change and we can still witness what is happening today. When it come to the people, I have a lot admiration for the women, while every now and then I come across a nice fellah...

Stereotactic body radiotherapy( SBRT) for Prostate, in Bangkok
They do in Singapore. I am looking for proximity as I don't like the idea of a long haul flight after PCA definitive treatment. But hopefully things could change here, and I am now 5 years down the AS road, and many men last 10 to 15 years, or die with their prostate cancers.

Stereotactic body radiotherapy( SBRT) for Prostate, in Bangkok
Not an option, at 70+, you are near certain to end up impotent, and probably in nappies as well. While radiotherapy present similar risks but the side effects are delayed, and blunt incontinence is unlikely. There is also the risk of rectal damage but this now mitigated by the "Space OAR" hydrogel rectal spacer. SBRT is become quite popular as the whole treatment can be carried out in 2 to 3 weeks, while IMRT/IGRT can last up to 6 or 7 weeks.

Stereotactic body radiotherapy( SBRT) for Prostate, in Bangkok
I am on active surveillance for Prostate cancer and have limited my choice of radical treatment, when the need arises, to SBRT. Would anyone know if any of the Bangkok hospitals uses SBRT to treat PCA. Several places advertise they have SBRT gear, but that doesn't mean they use it for Prostate cancer. Also, I would be interested if rectal hydrogel spacers (Space OAR) are being used for Radiotherapy in Thailand.

LTR Visa is Now available for Long Term Residency
Seriously? But you are correct, if I didn't have the 80k pension and a well established health coverage I wouldn't have applied for the LTR. Which is amazingly easy to get when you match the criteria.
