Unfortunately, she isn't going to go to a class with several other people. Private training or just a couple other people, maybe. She would probably prefer to be left alone in a gym to do her own thing, or with a friend. I would love if she did a Pilates or Yoga class. But pretty much any class setting is a no-go, for her. Also, she doesn't speak Thai so even private training would require some English-speaking. She is in great shape so it isn't a fear of being judged critically in that sense. I think. She gets upset when people look at her 'too long'. Like...angry. Yeah, I know. Trying to work on this as best I can. I appreciate you brain-storming with me, here. But I think either a semi-unused gym or possibly private training out of someone's home are the only options she might use. And even the private training will require some convincing.

Our place is big enough to put a couple of simple pieces in. And she already does some YouTube cardio stuff at home. But I think it's also important for her to get out of the house and have a routine to combat her anxiety/depression. She has a friend that may or may not go with her if we can find a suitable gym. I also wouldn't mind if she had a little training/instruction but that's also difficult, without going to a big gym.

Is it open to people who aren't staying there, for a fee? Interesting. I didn't even know stadiums had gyms that were open to the public.

Yes. Sadly our does not have a gym at all. Most hotels have small, unused gyms, as well. Tricky part is finding one that will let us use theirs. We have a really great deal on a condo, right now, and would be taking a pretty big downgrade to move. That would be half a year away, as well. I agree. That's why I am trying to find a gym for her to go to that only has a couple people, rather than getting weight sets at home. Also to give her a routine and a hobby. In another city, we had an unused gym in the condo and she went almost every day and was quite proud of her body. I convinced her to go to my gym at one point, with a lot of pressure. For some reason, the first day was ok-ish. Second day, she was in a bad mood and basically walked in and immediately stood in the corner, looking like a scared puppy. People looked at her a bit because she was acting strangely. She reversed it in her mind and said she was acting weird because people were staring at her. And then refused to ever go back.

So basically I live in Jomtien and I have a wife that wants to work out but has sufficient social anxiety that she doesn't want to work out around more than a couple other people. Especially guys. Especially big, serious looking guys. Trying to accommodate her by finding a gym that isn't really used much. Doesn't have to be amazing. Or cheap. Ideally in Jomtien and/or on baht bus route. Tried asking the tiny hotel next door as they have a gym that we never see anyone in and it's next door. No aircon and a tiny room. Manager said for 500 day (15,000 a month, no discount), she can use it. Need to do a little better than that. Another thought...anyone know a trainer that trains out of their own room or gym or something like that? Open to other ideas. Pilates or exercise bands might be ok but she's not going to do a whole group class kind of thing.

Awesome, a random forum post, linking to a 'news' article that just talks about a random reddit post. Journalism is dead. -

WRLife medical insurance - experiences?

There's lots of ways to use a mouse and an elephant for comparison purposes. For example, your reasoning capacity falls somewhere between them... -

WRLife medical insurance - experiences?
QuantumQuandry replied to bradiston's topic in Health and Medicine
1. WRLife's financials are more concerning so the risk is clearly higher but lots of insurance companies went bankrupt during Covid so it's a risk, to a greater or lesser degree, with all companies. Don't get me wrong, it is absolutely more concerning with WRLife, due to their financials. But...when will they fail? Will it be in your lifetime? Will it be when you need them? That's not so obvious, to me. 2. Where I start to feel like some people are being rash (and disingenuous, really) is saying they won't pay claims, period. Or they won't pay your next claim. Or saying they cover pre-existing. Or talking about their reviews when their reviews are about the same as every other health insurance company. 3. I don't see WRLife as a 'scam' and April, for example, as 'legit'. I see it as different gambling options with no sure thing. Self insure -> Pay nothing. Gamble on whether or not your lifetime medical spend will be higher or lower than the savings. April insurance -> Pay more. High (but not absolute) chance they will pay your next claim. High (but not absolute) chance they will be around for the next 10-20 years. WRLife insurance -> Pay less. High (but somewhat lower) chance they will pay your next claim. Lower chance they will be around for the next 10-20 years. Let me break that last bit down. So what happens if WRLife does eventually run out of money? The chances they will run out of money right when you have a claim seems pretty low, to me. But that's not the real risk, imo. The risk is that if you want to continue coverage, you will have to switch companies. That has two downsides. 1, that you may be too old to get covered at that point. And 2, any claims you did have will now be pre-existing conditions. I am not trying to endorse WRLife. I am trying to evaluate the practical side of the risk/reward. Please, feel free to bring up any pro/con's I haven't mentioned. -
WRLife medical insurance - experiences?
QuantumQuandry replied to bradiston's topic in Health and Medicine
Maybe it's not as clear as you think, though. I have talked to local brokers who do NOT endorse WRLIfe and do not sell WRLife and are generally disincentivized to recommend it as they only sell Thai policies...and they don't endorse WRLife, saying that it's too good to be true...but even they say that they have been paying out for all legitimate claims. I have not found a single broker that has said otherwise, in fact. I don't have WRLife. I don't know if they are going to collapse at some point. However, it does seem to me that some of you guys are a little too sure of yourselves, without much actual evidence to point one way or the other. I don't blame you for being skeptical. I think that's smart. But you might want to take a step back before being too sure of yourselves. -
e) Wait to find out how it's actually going to work, if implemented and enforced, at all.

Baht bus from Jomtien nightmarket to Central festival Pattaya
QuantumQuandry replied to Nillerille's topic in Pattaya
They mostly run the same routes, with very occasional variation. Every baht bus I have gotten on, on Jomtien 2nd road, that was headed in the Pattaya direction, went to Pattaya. Normally all the way to Terminal 21. A couple of times, they stopped and turned at south road. In that case, when they turn, you just hit the buzzer, get off, cross the street and get a second baht bus to continue your journey. In this day and age, even if you make a mistake, it's not a big deal. You have google maps to follow if you are close or you can always call a bolt wherever you are. Used to be, if you made a mistake, you were in for a lot of walking. -
Nonsensical comment. I started with fear mongering and you went left field. You don't have to have a 'narrative' but would be nice if you could follow the conversation at least.
-
Right, especially everything you hear on YouTube.
-
Irony is when you fear-monger about people fear-mongering.

If this whole deal involves any reasonable amount of extra money coming out of my pocket, I will move back to Philippines and try some other local countries, like Malaysia/Indonesia. I wonder how many people are in the same boat? Take a guess at what percentage of expats (that weren't already paying taxes for foreign income)...would be willing to pay more to Thailand, if the rules change and are enforced? Not a rhetorical question. Genuinely curious how many people will just lump it and stay.

Poor people don't really live in BGC. Richer Filipinos, perhaps, but they aren't that different, imo. Certainly not compared to Thais or Asians, in general. But up to you. -

Investors plight.
QuantumQuandry replied to swissie's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I find that having a detailed game plan before you buy anything helps avoid this. I know how much I have to invest in different segments, how much I will risk and a set of rules for getting in and out. Whether it goes well or it goes poorly, I have a plan and I commit to it before buying anything.
