Strengthening Ukraine’s Defense: The Path to Lasting Peace
Jingthing replied to Social Media's topic in World News
By Jeffrey Sachs. Far left propagandist. AI could write his garbage. -
They want to raise more tax? Stop terrorizing retired expats. Instead, make recreational weed explicitly legal, the higher the THC level the better, closely regulate it from Thai farm to stoner, and then tax the flippin' puck out of it. Sorted! But that would be too logical wouldn't it? Instead drive it underground and don't tax it.

Kamala Harris Expresses Openness to Exploring Reparations for Slavery

Never mind Jim Crow laws and mortgage redlining going well into quite recent history. -
Kamala Harris Expresses Openness to Exploring Reparations for Slavery

No she isn't. Trump was doing historically better with blacks when it was Biden, but now polling shows closer to modern historical norms. Which means the vast majority for any democrat vs. any republican. No. magadonians, I'm not talking about long ago when the democrats were the white nationalist party. -

No, I have nothing in mind specifically. -
I started following Where's Wes when he lived in Colombia. He married into a deeply religious Christian family in Manizales, ending up divorcing her, and now her family basically wants to kill him -- so he got out of Dodge. Since then he's been traveling widely. He seems to love Poland. He's not really my kind of guy politically or socially but he has a sharp intelligence that I still find worth hearing. I suppose his opinions about the Philippines have more weight as he's an American from a Chinese Filipino background. Some things he says don't make sense to me. He says most expats settle in Makati and BGC (Metro Manila) when my understanding is that they are spread all over, especially in Cebu, Dumaguete, etc. He suggests Baguio City would be his own best choice as the cool weather in the mountains resembles Manizales and that place interests me as well. My only Pinoy experiences are with some failed relationships in the U.S. and one tourism visit years ago. My general impression is that it's easy to assume the people are like westerners because they speak English and are Catholic, but in reality their culture is wildly different. For those that know better than me, is Wes spot on or spot off?

There are other things that could be done that don't involve direct cash payments. All Harris is saying is let's talk have a discussion about this. Why are reactionaries so afraid of even discussing this topic? -

A topic that has become popular to discuss in the U.S. is generational wealth. The truth is that many black Americans have generational wealth similar or greater than typical other than black Americans. But a disproportionate percentage of them don't. It's not only slavery but mortgage red lining, etc. If there are government policies that could level the playing field for historical damages to some extent (nobody is expecting perfection or full payback) what is the problem exactly? -
Kamala Harris Expresses Openness to Exploring Reparations for Slavery

She just said she's open to discussions. She hasn't come out for any specific policy on the matter. The truth is the legacy of slavery hasn't been resolved yet in the U.S., and a step for that is such discussions. I fully support that and so would most decent Americans. -

Original Americans? -
I want to clarify. I do think most LGBTQ people internationally support both Israel's right to exist and also support the aspirations of Palestinians who are willing to accept that as well. But the minority faction that would march in a pro genocide River to the Sea parade under a Queers for Palestine banner are indeed silly clueless fools like marching chickens for KFC. Sample of Palestinian opinion.

Not surprising. Note the authors of the opinion piece. Kremlin propaganda repeaters. -
Jan 6 was disqualifying. Americans that think Trump should be allowed power again missed civics education.

You live where? In any case ducks, geese, and rabbits are not a taboo food in US culture. Ducks and geese aren't pets though some people do have rabbit pets. All are delicious. Cats and dogs are taboo to eat in the US of course. So to you its ok to inflame hatred and threats of violence against minority communities by inventing lying memes?
