  1. Understood but if you buy the right stocks and intend to hold long term it doesn't really matter if the falling isn't over (which it probably isn't). Historically people end up losing for being out of the market during key surges.
  2. I will answer first. I'm looking at tons of stocks. I don't have the skills to analyze companies myself so I'm overly dependent on media sources. So far I've bought Berkshire Hathaway-B. This stock holds so many other stocks that it's much more like an ETF than a one company stock. I will probably soon buy Mercado Libre (Uruguay) and Palo Alto Networks. Mercado Libre is a potential future Amazon of Latin America. Software/Fintech. I have contact with expats there that rave about their services. Palo Alto Networks is a leader in cybersecurity. But prices are now so low now for very many appealing companies, it sure isn't easy coming up with the finalists. Personally I am not interested in short term trades. I want stocks with great long term potential to hold indefinitely. I'm cool with moderate risk, bored with very low risk and low potential, and open to smaller gambles on high risk.
  3. ... which might be approaching a bottom? It's obvious these are very unusual times in the global markets. But history shows us such crisis times are the best times to invest. But picking the winners is the difficult part. Of course you can't pick exact bottoms but in the long run that doesn't matter if you're in for the long run. From a US perspective the best advice has always been highly diversified total market index funds. The chances of beating the market by picking stocks is remote and even professionals have a hard time with that. But it seems to me, this time in history is rather different. My gut feeling says now is the time for picking stocks. So for people looking at stocks now or in the near future, what stocks are you looking at?
  4. Trumpists encouraging Bolsanoro to stage an armed coup. Quelle surprise. NY Young Republicans Declare Bolsonaro Winner of Brazil Election He Lost (mediaite.com)
  5. That will probably be allowed if they do marriage equality instead of civil partnership but don't assume that will include immigration rights the same as opposite sex marriage. Wait and see.
  6. So glad to see Trump crony Bolsanaro lose. Hopefully this was his last stand. Horrible hateful demagogue. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/10/31/jair-bolsonaro-lula-brazilian-election-amazon-putin-ukraine/?itid=hp_opinions_p001_f008 Why Bolsonaro’s stunning loss should give humans a glimmer of hope
  7. I seriously doubt that Thailand will ever allow same sex marriage between two foreigners.
  8. Maybe we'll get lucky and he'll run Twitter into the ground. We really didn't need another Parler. Elon Musk’s Paul Pelosi tweet proves he has no business running Twitter | Robert Reich | The Guardian
  9. Kanye has been reinstated on Twitter. Yes Twitter is definitely going to be a much bigger Parler. The right wing extremist haters are having a field day. Does Kanye have any commercial associations left to be "death con 3'd" other than music streaming? To add, 100 percent Musk is anti LGBT (like the right wing in general including Putin who is obsessed). Remember his disgusting attack on the British cave boy rescuer in Thailand and now this tweet promotion of a homophobic obviously 100 percent FAKE "news" story about the attempted murder of Paul Pelosi. Of course it plays in Peoria because it happened in San Francisco. I'm sure many millions of Americans believe it. There is also news he is firing factions in Twitter that promote diversity. Twitter -- blank you very very much.
  10. Since Musk took over, Twitter is even worse. Nice job!
  11. Fellow travelers don't like the reality, so no worries, create alternative ones. So predictable. The future of democracy is very bleak with every news story being intentionally and maliciously twisted this way.
  12. OK, it's not "must see" tv but I liked it and it's a quick five episode binge.
  13. Youtube is not banned in Russia.
  14. You're not keeping up. The latest is that it's a holy war against Satan and gay parades.
  15. So when the perp said Where's Nancy like the violent insurrectionists on January 6th, he wanted to invite her for tea?
  16. Bull. RT is Kremlin owned and Kremlin controlled state propaganda. If you think that's objective then all I can say is you don’t know objective from a hole in the head.
  17. I'm with you about the sinking ship as I think Putin is committing national suicide but I'm not OK calling the refugees rats. They're very human and they made a very defensive choice.
  18. You can't really be precise about allegiances but I'm suggesting to be very skeptical about what they might tell you. To be clear I think fleeing mobilization is a decent choice but hardly saintly. Look Putin is calling them rats. They are not rats. I bet lots of the pro Putins have changed their mind after being called a rat.
  19. Yeah. I wouldn't rave about it but probably more than good enough for most expats. But it isn't the cheapest.
  20. As far as Russian refugee allegiances this is my educated guess. A small minority are anti war activists. Another more sizeable minority against the war but did nothing. Another more significant chunk apolitical until the war came back to bite them in Russia. Probably a bigger chunk Z types / Putin lovers as long as they didn't have to fight. But you will have a very hard time knowing. Very few of the Z types will tell you. They're more likely to lie. They get how the war and Putin are perceived abroad.
