I absolutely agree that if there is to be credible investigation, his background and what was happening with his family would be a vital part of the picture. Of course I have no idea if such a credible investigation will actually happen. He could be railroaded on the murder charge or he could be let off without at least considering there was a damning back story.

I do understand people who are skeptical that this remittance based tax will actually be enforced meaning people that technically do need to file and/or pay some tax can safely just ignore it. This is Thailand after all! Wasn't it widely broadcast that "recreational" cannabis would be criminalized again by now? You never know until you know. On the other hand we're hearing more that global non remittance based taxation is coming down the pike here. We need to be a patient and see what happens.

I will respond to this by citing a foreign example. Doesn't even need to be about Hitler. Let's look at today's Russia. Let's consider Putin's policy to erase Ukraine. Consider a Russian national that opposes that policy and does NOT want Putin to succeed in that. Ipso facto ... “Every red-blooded Russian should want your president to succeed, whether you vote for him or not, whether the same party or not, whether you like him or not.” Should they really? Or is it actually much more patriotic to oppose obviously wrong actions of our leaders?

No. Not me. I am not self enforcing anything. I am not rushing to get a TIN and I detest the commercial and otherwise pushers saying we all need them. I know I don't need a TIN yet based on my personal situation. If how I read the IRA policy is correct I will need one during a later year. By then I presume that rule will be much better clarified and I do predict expat retirees are that have accessable income are going to be more or less forced into the system. But don't accuse me of pushing it. I hate it but we don't always get what we want.

Let's get real. Probably zero expat retirees with no in Thailand income has filed before. The information given is about the reading of the DTA about pensions. Absolutely what has changed was about the timing, but like it or not (I don't like it) there is almost no doubt the starting this year such expat retirees with only remitted accessable income to show WILL be filing and most likely such filing will sooner or later be ENFORCED.

Are jaywalkers criminals or did they commit a crime? You'll be hard pressed to find people who object to deporting undocumented people who have committed SERIOUS crimes. Most everyone would support that enthusiastically as I do. But Trump's stated plan of wholesale mass deportation is destructive and unwise. Rather we should be seeking bipartisan immigration reform. Ironically, someone like him could possibly pass that ever elusive rational and civilized goal, but instead he's going for cruel, fascism theater that will greatly damage the economy.

IF a big IF Trump does manage to end that war in a way where Ukraine is secure to be a sovereign nation with IRONCLAD security guarantees, then I will give him credit for that. I doubt he can pull that off though. I think he's more likely at the end of the day to try to push Ukraine into a crap deal so he can take credit for BS that will be a setup for Russia to invade after they've rebuilt their army at a later date.

At your service! Barron is really too tall for polite society. Given that he doesn't play basketball or work as an apple tree picker (many openings soon!) where his freakish height would be useful, is it possible for him to be shortened? Also, he never speaks in public. Is he mute? Does his voice sound like Peewee Herman? Is he the reincarnation of Harpo Marx? He can't stay silent forever!

They have communicated the situation with no ambiguity. I have detailed that and yes I have gotten followup detailed clarifications. They are claiming (believe it or not) the their information on issues like this is cleared with Thai revenue. It's not as if I like the information but I tend to find them as a source more credible than your theorizing. Another thing which I think adds credibility to that firm is they are definitely NOT get a TIN or everyone must file pushers! They very clearly give information on cases where you should NOT get a TIN, and not file. Such as only remitting exempt income, etc.

Some might remember the SHA XIAN SNACKS type of casual Chinese restaurant which was thriving on 2nd road north of Klang until Covid hit which clearly led to its untimely demise. In case you don't know SHA XIAN SNACKS is a sort of anarchic international chain out of China of course, presumably with many copy cats. It's known for lower cost, casual, everyday dishes focusing on their regional style. They have never presented as selling gourmet level food. Anyway I did like the old place. I found a new place doing this style of food also on 2nd road, but this time a short distance north of Pattaya Tai on the away from the beach side. Can't say that the sign has a name but if you find a small Chinese restaurant at the described location, that's the place. This place in no way imaginable caters to non-Chinese speakers. Rather I felt I was being actively DISCOURAGED. The menu is in Chinese and the staff had almost no patience as I was trying to google translate their menu. Just standing there looking annoyed. Such behavior doesn't deter me, but eventually i was offered a smart phone with pictures of food but also no English and I didn't like that because I didn't want to accidentally order a dish of stir fried anuses or some such delicacy. Possible the most popular dish from this not really a chain are the peanut butter dishes, noodles or dumplings. But coincidentally I had had a similar dish for lunch and didn't want that for dinner. I presume that they would have it. Eventually I figured out the places was a sort of SHA XIAN SNACKS type of place and I got confirmation of that as well. So then I just found a random online menu of another similar menu place with English and quickly found a few things to order showing the Chinese part. It wasn't an ideal order as I was rushed, but I was a little surprised that the food was quite good. Why? Because this time and a prior time I had stopped in to inquire the place had ZERO customers! The old place was always packed mostly with Chinese people but that place was much more accessible to non-Chinese. So I got beef noodle soup and wontons with seaweed soup even though I didn't realize the wonton dish was going to also be a soup. Total cost with water about 270. By the end of my meal as I had not once complained about anything and happily enjoyed the food, I felt the staff had warmed up to me/ I enjoyed both dishes enough to want to go back and try to order better next time. I think I can do that because now I have a way that will probably help with that, which I'm sharing now. Here is a typical SHA XIAN SNACKS menu with English and Chinese. Have a look BEFORE you go.
