  1. No, now in the UK, the legal definition of a woman/man is NOT based on "biological sex." It's based on a legal mandate. My prediction is that the legal definition will be changed in the future. Some people are not born primarily male or female. Some have mixed chromosomes, will later develop mixed hormones, and a very few are even born with mixed genitalia. Trans people do not flip back and forth between claiming to be male and then female. They think long and hard about this before they come to a conclusion. They know how controversial (and dangerous!) such a declaration will be. I'm not suggesting trans females should be allowed to participate in women's sports, or trans males in men's sports. What I'm suggesting is that trans people should not be ignored and treated as if it's just some whim of theirs. Many of them have a very solid BIOLOGICAL basis for their claims, even if now, in the UK, they have no LEGAL basis.
  2. Yes! It's been very hot the last several days up here near Phetabun. I play golf twice a week, and yesterday it was a very, very hot walk. Even the Thai women caddies kept remarking on how hot it was! (Wanted higher tips? 😄 )
  3. So, who was more deadly, the Thai woman or the snake? 😞
  4. I've very rarely heard any Thais making a joke, but I don't know if that's because they have no sense of humor or if it's because either they aren't confident of the English they speak, or they aren't confident of my ability to understand their Thai.
  5. Of course, I'm in favor of Harvard, but it's good to hear they tried to reach some kind of compromise before they completely rejected his demands. That's the way these things should work: not rejecting proposals out of hand or immediately giving in to them.
  6. A "bar brawl" in Pattaya? Who would have thought? 😮
  7. The UK Supreme Court's ruling that "...the legal definition of a woman is based on biological sex" is incorrect. Biological sex is not just two distinct genders; it is a range of gender qualities. Their ruling should be labeled as based on "legislatively defined sex." 🤨
  8. I'm against any efforts like this. But if the UK does do this, they should make sure that whatever they do affects only the UK, not the rest of the world. They have no right to affect the sunlight in other countries. 😡
  9. I'm not a constitutional lawyer, but I would think closing a border would have to be done by an act of Congress, not the President. I could believe the President could close a border temporarily in an emergency, but I think it would have to be an emergency like a military invasion or a health crisis. I hope this doesn't last very long, or the price of a lot of agricultural items, like fruits and vegetables, will skyrocket without the help of low-cost workers.
  10. "Thais use the word “farang” to describe or reference white-skinned foreigners. In Thai the word is spelt ฝรั่ง. It is a contraction of the Thai word for French/France, ‘ farangset ‘, which dates back to French Indochina in the 17th Century." Source: What Does 'Farang' Mean in Thai & Should I Be Offended?
  11. In this case, "resident" is an official designation, not just a term for where you usually live. If Thailand is your country of residency, then you are here on a resident visa or are a citizen of Thailand. If you are not a citizen of Thailand and are here on a non-resident visa, then your residency is somewhere else.
  12. Good for them! I heartedly approve and hope more universities and businesses will join them.
  13. I wasn't able to post on the forum regarding the Pope's death. It had been closed to comments by the time I saw it. If I had, I'd have posted something like this: In accordance with DEI, when electing a new pope, serious consideration should be given to female and Black candidates. And, if the cardinals really wanted to include DEI, they could even consider a trans woman! 😮
  14. Well, I'm not so sure I agree with this. Some forms of "corporal punishment," like spanking, is okay with me. But, of course, I am opposed to allowing more severe punishments, and even spanking if it is done with a whip or too frequently. And, I don't know how this will be enforced. It will take someone to come forth and accuse the parent or adult of administering "corporal punishment." Or, could the kid do that? And if so, how will the charges be proven?
  15. I'm all for changes in the Democrat Party, including those that involve control by a "New Generation." Of course, as usual, I will just have to wait to see how the Democrats stand on the issues, but, as in the past, as long as the Republicans are controlled by Trump, I always intend to vote for the Democrat candidate.
  16. I'm glad to see all these people using their freedom of speech to express themselves. I hope their rights will be protected.
  17. I didn't "find myself" in Thailand. I found myself (became "woke") many years ago. But my time here now (about 20 years) has not interfered with that at all.
  18. This, like most of Trump's actions, is a horror show! 😡
  19. I'm not from the UK, but this type of attitude is rampant in the USA, my home country, also. What these people just won't accept is that there are NOT just two biological genders. EVERYONE, including the reader of this post and me, is somewhere on a scale between the extreme opposites of "male" and "female." No one has only the hormonal and chromosomes associated with "male" or "female." Everyone has a mix of these. Some have such a mix that they end up being "trans." Some people are even born with a mix of physical characteristics (penis/vulva), although that is rare, it does occur sometimes. This mix has always been part of human (and all animal) makeup, so a declaration by some officials will not erase it.
  20. No. And I don't think anyone should be wasting their (and our) time and money trying to go into space when we need to concentrate our efforts on trying to fix, or at least slow down, our devastation of this planet.
  21. Looks like two White guys on one Black guy to me. 😞 The article says they were drunk. Why do people fight after they've been drinking? When I drink, I just want to go to sleep. 🙂
  22. I only watched the first two and a half minutes of the video, but I understood most of what the people were saying. What I couldn't understand was due to them speaking fast, but not because of the words they used or their pronunciation. I'm 79 and went to a public grade school and high school in a small town in Indiana. It was all-White, but that's because the town I lived in was all-White. While in high school, we did have an exchange student from Turkey. Everyone in the video was White and speaking English, so I don't know why you couldn't understand them. I am also worried about how the kids in the USA are growing up, but it's not a surprise since it seems like a large percentage of the adult population seems rude and bonkers too. Trump was elected president, after all. 😞
