Do you get on well with Thai People?
The Cyclist replied to BarBoy's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
When I first came here many years ago, I rented a house in a moobahn that had a front garden like a jungle. Transforming that Jungle into an actual garden, had people stopping and attempting to talk. My Thai then was virtually non existant, but an effort was made on both sides, and developed from there. It took a while as I was back and forth to work. Find something similar where you are, and give people a reason to stop, look and try to converse. -

That probably answers it then. Relax, smile, say hello in Thai or English, and let the locals get to know you. -

Might be you or the place you are located. Out where I am ( in the sticks ) most people are friendly. -
We might be at cross purposes here The above is not in question. The breakdown of actual figures is more pertinent. 9.55 million in the tax net, who must have filed a tax return ( or they would not be in the tax net. 3.3 million actually paid tax, on an income of 25,000 baht a month or above. 6.25 million never paid any tax, because they did not earn 25,000 a month or their TEDA took them below the level of paying any income tax. My point was, that their are many millions of Thais filing tax returns, but not paying any tax. Which flies in the face of some peoples ( mis ) understanding that they do not need to file a tax return if they have no tax to pay.

A very badly worded paragraph. I would suggest it should read 9.55 million tax filers. 3.3 million had a monthly income above 25,000 baht, where tax, on average, becomes payable, after deductions and actually paid tax. The remaining 6.25 million had no tax liability after TEDA's were applied Which flies in the face of those that claim that they do not need to file a tax return as their TEDA's take them bellow the threshold. Or struggle to get their heads around that the threshold for tax filing is not the same as the threshold for paying tax.

Britain’s Sharia Courts and the Challenge of Religious Freedom
The Cyclist replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Another strawman or is it an educational thing ? I never mentioned anything about official legal or constitutional role. I posted the link to show another poster that the UK Gov considers Sharia Councils and Sharia Courts, to be one and the same. Feel free to come back when you sort your issue out. -
Gifting the Spouse
The Cyclist replied to NoDisplayName's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Buying property was 1 of the reasons. And it is ' Not Control ' but rather ' Must not benefit ' So my reading of that ( and it was over a year ago ) is that you could bung your wife 20 Million to buy a property, you as the giver of the gift, could never live in it. And I also seem to recall that that these gifts were being referred to as being gifted within Thailand and not monies being gifted from overseas. -
Gifting the Spouse
The Cyclist replied to NoDisplayName's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
My basic and limited understanding from reading last year. Was that these ' Gifts ' had to be for very specific things ( 4 I think ) and not just a ' heres a wedge of cash as a gift ' to try and beat the tax,an. -

Britain’s Sharia Courts and the Challenge of Religious Freedom
The Cyclist replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Because you cannot answer it without destroying your credibility. Ranting ? Now thats funny Why would I want to do that. The opening story is not about NGO's for abused women, in Thailand or anywhere else. I believe that that the title is " Britains Sharia Courts and Religious freedoms " 1. Sharia Courts should not be happening in the UK. Full stop. 2. Muslim women do not appear to have much freedon under Islam. Which make is a rather misgynistic religion / way of life. -

Created by man, or created by a fairytale ? So you think none of these are happening in the UK ? Still waiting on an answer or at least a coherent explanation Should I make it easier for you ? You want to have a bash at explaining why you think it is not a misogynistic religion / way of life ? -

Having worked across MENA for the best of 20 years, I have witnessed 1st hand many things that are negative about Islam. You are confusing exceptions with " The Norm " If you are referring to the ambulance driver. Avail yourself to the amount of Muslims that have been removed from the the Police in the UK, especially the Met. That info is freely available to the general public, if you know where to find it. I still await your answer on how you can be supportive of such a misogynistic religion / way of life. I hope you have an answer for the millions of female muslims denied education. I hope you have an answer for the millions of female muslims that cannot venture out without a male chaperone. I hope you have an answer for the millions of female muslims that are forced to be covered head to toe when they leave the house. I hope you have an answer for the millions of female muslims forced into marriage. I hope you have an answer for all the female muslims that have lost a sister to the abomination that is called Honour Killings. Need me to go on ? -

Cohesion ? This sort of cohesion you mean, where men and womem join in equally ? Beats me how anyone can try and stick up for such a Misogynistic religion / way of life. And about those NHS workers you were shouting about. Here is one here Just 1 of the reasons that muslim population in UK prisons is so high. -

A ' Phobia ' is an irrational fear. There is nothing irrational about fearing 1. Muslim Grooming Gangs. 2. Muslims that go bang at Concerts. 3. Muslims that go on random stabbing sprees 4. Muslims that drive vehicles into Christmas markets. 5. Muslims that call for Caliphates in Western Countries. And I haven't even got to the low life criminals yet, like the drug dealers & prostitution rings. Just been for a slash and remembered a couple more 6. Muslims that behead teachers 7. Muslims that force teachers into Witness protection programmes. -

The economic results can be seen on a daily basis, should anyone care to look https://assets.aseannow.com/forum/uploads/monthly_2024_12/IMG_3449.webp.49eed3ea723f34be5d1452ca18140a47.webp How much has the £ fell against the Baht since the day Labour won the GE ? How is the FTSE 100 today compared to the day Labour won the GE ? How is GDP growth since the day Labour won the GE. Some people just need to open their eyes, coupled with knowing where to look. -

Not sure why you cannot see that Laws are only any good if people follow them. Might be why UK prisons are bursting at the seams. Seems that quite a lot of people like to ignore Laws. -

What part of the FGM Act 2003 did you not understand ? You do understand that FGM Act 2003 is UK Law ? And that there has only ever been 1 person prosecuted under that Law ? And yet https://www.theguardian.com/society/2015/jul/21/fgm-affects-females-in-every-local-authority-in-england-and-wales-study Political will, Just like Laws, will not stop people practicing what they see as their Cultural or Religious rights. What you see as a lack of Political will, others see as as appeasment to minority groups. -
Britain’s Sharia Courts and the Challenge of Religious Freedom
The Cyclist replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I could give that a smart answer, but I will refrain. Despite the FGM Act 2003, it still goes on regardless. Only 1 person has ever been prosecuted under FGM Law. Here is the good old Lefty Guardians take on it https://www.theguardian.com/society/2015/jul/21/fgm-affects-females-in-every-local-authority-in-england-and-wales-study You can make as many laws as you like. They mean not a jot to people who value their Culture and Religion more than any Western Law.
