Picture captured from CCTV. A Vietnamese university student died after jumping from the roof of a police station in Bang Si Mueang, Nonthaburi. The incident occurred on 23 January, shortly after the man had filed a police report about losing money at a local hotel. The deceased, identified as Mr. Henh Nhi Ho, 32, was a student at a university in northern Thailand. He had visited the Bang Si Mueang Police Station at 17:00 to report the incident. After filing his complaint, he was seen smoking a cigarette near the station before disappearing for over 20 minutes. CCTV footage revealed that Mr. Henh walked to the rear of the building, climbed a communication pole to reach the third-floor rooftop, and removed his white long-sleeve jacket and orange cap. At 17:25 he jumped from the roof, sustaining critical injuries. Rescue teams from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation and Phra Nang Klao Hospital arrived promptly to provide assistance, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after being admitted to hospital. Surveillance footage from 23 January at 16:54 showed Mr. Henh, wearing a white jacket over a white T-shirt, black trousers, and an orange cap, smoking near the station's staircase. He later walked to the back of the building and climbed to the rooftop. Before jumping, he left his jacket, cap, and mobile phone on the rooftop. On 24 January, forensic teams examined the scene, uncovering a red LM cigarette pack, a yellow Camel cigarette pack, a yellow lighter, and three used cigarette butts on the third-floor balcony. The rooftop also contained Mr. Henh's belongings. Investigators determined he climbed the communication pole because there is no direct stairway to the roof. Pol Col Somchai Jangthamma, chief of Bang Si Mueang Police Station, stated that the deceased had appeared distressed. After filing his report, he requested to smoke a cigarette but later disappeared. It is believed that stress over being asked to vacate his hotel room triggered the decision. "We have contacted the Vietnamese embassy and arranged for a translator to assist in coordinating with the victim's family. All officers present at the scene will be questioned, and we will thoroughly investigate the circumstances, including the victim's hotel room, for additional evidence," Pol Col Somchai said. If you or anyone you know is in emotional distress, please contact the Samaritans of Thailand 24-hour hotline: 02 713 6791 (English), 02 713 6793 (Thai) or the Thai Mental Health Hotline at 1323 (Thai). Please also contact your friends or relatives at this time if you have feelings of loneliness, stress or depression. Seek out help. -- 2025-01-25

Picture from responders. A 27-year-old man died after accidentally discharging his shotgun while riding a motorcycle in Buriram Province. The incident occurred on the Buriram-Prakhon Chai Road near Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University in Samed Subdistrict on 24 January. Police Lieutenant Nantikan Amphawan, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) of Muang Buriram Police Station, along with Sawang Chanyatham Buriram rescue workers, responded to the scene. The victim, identified as Mr. Songchai “Tom” Chao Suan from Ban Sai Subdistrict, Prakhon Chai District, was found lying next to his overturned motorcycle, bleeding profusely. Rescuers rushed him to Buriram Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after. A medical examination revealed 19 shotgun pellets lodged in his chest. According to Mr. Songchai’s sister, Ms. Nuengruethai Chao Suan, her brother had gone out riding with friends, though she was unaware he was carrying a firearm. She was informed by one of his friends that his motorcycle had crashed and rushed to the scene, not realising he had been shot. Mr. Nutchai “Bas” Dasi, a friend riding alongside the victim, said they had been exploring the city to see decorative lighting along the marathon route ahead of an event scheduled for 25 January. Songchai had been leading the group when they noticed his motorcycle overturned by the roadside. Upon approaching, they found him bleeding heavily and crying out for help. Police investigations suggest that the victim had a shotgun tucked in the front of his clothing. It is believed the gun accidentally discharged as he adjusted it while riding, causing fatal injuries. Authorities are continuing their investigation to confirm the circumstances of the incident. -- 2025-01-25

Picture from responders. Authorities in Lampang Province are investigating a fire that engulfed a 99-year-old wooden school building, causing damage estimated at over 2 million baht. The fire broke out late on the night of 23 January at Ban Mae Tha School, located in Mae Tha District. At 09:00 on 24 January, Pol Lt Col Phakphoom Wongchai, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) of Mae Tha Police Station, along with Lampang Forensic Division 5, district officials, and other relevant agencies, inspected the site of the fire. They were joined by Kasem Jaichan, Mae Tha District Chief, school director Chakrapong Kongnun, and teacher Phongsakorn Wandue, who was the first to witness the incident. Mr. Phongsakorn, who resides in the teacher’s accommodation next to the building, recalled hearing multiple loud noises around 23:30. Initially, he assumed someone was setting off firecrackers. However, when the electricity in his home began to flicker, he stepped outside to investigate. He discovered flames in the centre of the left-wing of the building, which was being used for storage. The fire spread rapidly, prompting him to alert the school director and call emergency services. The blaze destroyed four rooms, including a storage room that housed desks, chairs, musical instruments, educational materials, and books, as well as two classrooms and a library. The initial damage assessment is valued at more than 2 million baht. The affected building, constructed in 1926, was entirely made of wood and had been in use for nearly a century. The fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit, although forensic officers are conducting further investigations to confirm the exact cause. This incident marks a significant loss to the school and the community, as the historic building had served generations of students in Mae Tha. -- 2025-01-25

Picture courtesy of ECDD Authorities in Samut Prakan, have uncovered over one million sachets of vitamin C supplements and coffee imported from China, falsely bearing Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval numbers. The products were intended for online distribution and posed significant safety risks to consumers. The operation was led by Pol. Col. Thatphoom Jaruprachya, Acting Commander of the Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECDD), along with Pol. Col. Wichak Tarom, Deputy Commander of ECDD, Pol. Col. Chatchawan Chuchaiyarot, Superintendent of Division 2, and Ms. Sasiwee Narakorn, Deputy Director of the Food Division at the Thai FDA. The team raided a warehouse in Bang Bo district, Samut Prakan, following a court warrant. Inside, they discovered sachets of coffee, vitamin C supplements, and other dietary products, totalling over 1 million units. These items were labelled with counterfeit FDA registration numbers, copied from legitimate products to avoid detection. Pol. Col. Thatphoom revealed that the items had been smuggled into Thailand from China without undergoing customs clearance or meeting Thai FDA safety standards. These unregulated products were then prepared for sale on various online platforms. Investigators linked the warehouse to a Chinese-backed business entity involved in logistics operations. The suspected investors and business owners are currently based overseas. Authorities are now working to summon all individuals connected to the case for questioning and legal action. Pol. Col. Thatphoom emphasised the importance of consumer safety, stating, “This operation underscores the dangers posed by unregulated products to public health. We are determined to hold those responsible accountable.” Consumers are advised to remain cautious when purchasing dietary supplements and food products online, ensuring they are verified by the Thai FDA to avoid potential health risks. -- 2025-01-25

Swiss Dog Owner Defies Thai Beach Ban, Sparking Fear Among Locals and Tourists Picture courtesy of Khaosod A Swiss man has reignited controversy by defying a ban on walking his dogs at Suan Luang Beach, Bang Saphan district, despite previous attacks on tourists. The issue, which first drew widespread attention in August 2024, resurfaced after Mathias, the dog owner, was spotted on the beach on 20 January with four unleashed dogs, two large and two small. Picture courtesy of Khaosod A Swiss man has reignited controversy by defying a ban on walking his dogs at Suan Luang Beach, Bang Saphan district, despite previous attacks on tourists. The issue, which first drew widespread attention in August 2024, resurfaced after Mathias, the dog owner, was spotted on the beach on 20 January with four unleashed dogs, two large and two small. On 23 January, Thai and foreign tourists joined residents of Suan Luang Beach to lodge a formal complaint with the Pong Prasad Subdistrict Administrative Organisation (SAO). They reported that Mathias, who had been ordered to remove his dogs from the area while legal proceedings were ongoing, has continued to disregard the ban, raising fears for public safety. Residents provided video evidence of Mathias walking his dogs without collars or leashes. The footage also shows tourists and locals, including children, remaining stationary out of fear of another attack. Witnesses claim Mathias was indifferent to being filmed and even gestured at the cameras. Mr Thip Ruenkasem, 56, a local resident who recorded the video, expressed concern over the incident’s impact on tourism. “Since the first dog attacks, visitors have been hesitant to come to Suan Luang Beach. It has affected tourism revenue significantly,” he said. “The Pong Prasad SAO ordered Mathias to remove his dogs to prevent further incidents until the legal case is resolved. However, he has blatantly ignored the order and continues to walk his dogs here. This is a clear disregard for Thai law,” Mr Thip added. One of the victims of the previous incidents, Mr Rolf, a 76-year-old Swiss national, said he was bitten by one of Mathias’ dogs in August 2024. Following the attack, he returned to Switzerland, cutting his trip short. “I was relieved when I heard Mathias had been banned from keeping the dogs,” Rolf said. “But when I came back to Thailand, I was shocked to see him still walking the same dogs on the beach. This raises serious questions about the enforcement of the ban.” Mr Thanachai Buachuang, president of the Pong Prasad SAO, acknowledged the long-standing issue. He explained that while the SAO had mediated discussions and acted in accordance with the law, Mathias’ lawyer appealed the case. A subsequent investigation by the Department of Health, Zone 5, in Ratchaburi found no aggressive dogs at Mathias’ property, leading to the case being dropped. However, locals allege that Mathias hides his dogs during inspections. “When aggressive dogs are found, we intend to enforce the original order to remove them. But Mathias has evaded these measures, which has led to ongoing complaints,” Mr Thanachai said. The situation has reignited fears among tourists and locals, with many calling for stricter enforcement of the ban to ensure public safety and restore confidence in the area as a tourist destination. -- 2025-01-25

Picture from responders. A 70-year-old man died, and his 4-year-old granddaughter sustained severe injuries following a collision between a motorbike and a car in Kanchanaburi on 24 January. The crash occurred at approximately 14:20 on the bypass road opposite the Pak Phraek Municipal Office in Mueang District. Police from Mueang Kanchanaburi Station, along with paramedics from Phaholpolpayuhasena Hospital, rushed to the scene following a report of the incident. Upon arrival, rescue workers from the Pitakkanchan Foundation were managing traffic as medical personnel transported the injured child to Phaholpolpayuhasena Hospital. The lifeless body of the motorbike rider, identified as Mr. Thanapoom Khwanyuen, was found in a pool of blood near a U-turn point. His red-grey Honda Wave 110 motorbike lay overturned nearby. Around 30 metres from the crash site, police found a white Honda Jazz with damage to its front left side, including a shattered windshield. The driver, Mr. Suthat, a teacher at a nearby school, stood waiting to give his statement. Visibly shaken, Mr. Suthat told police that he was driving from the city centre towards his school, located about 500 metres from the crash site. He claimed the motorbike abruptly cut across his path, leaving him no time to brake before colliding with it. The impact caused the rider to hit the car’s windshield before falling to the ground. Relatives of the deceased arrived at the scene shortly after being notified, breaking down in tears upon learning of the fatality. The family identified the victim as Mr. Thanapoom, who had picked up his granddaughter, Jirah, from a local childcare centre. Medical examinations revealed Mr. Thanapoom had suffered fatal head injuries. The child, who sustained serious arm and leg fractures, remains in critical condition. Police will interview Mr. Suthat and other witnesses while reviewing CCTV footage to determine the exact cause of the crash. Legal proceedings will follow based on the findings of the investigation. -- 2025-01-25

The incident occurred on the morning of 24 January, following reports of severe abdominal pain and diarrhoea among the participants. At 09:00, the Narenthorn Emergency Medical Centre at Koh Samui Hospital received an alert from the school. Authorities immediately coordinated with the district public health office, local government, and multiple medical facilities, including Koh Samui Hospital, Wattanapat Samui Hospital, Bandon International Hospital, and Bangkok Samui Hospital, to provide urgent assistance. The affected students, who were experiencing vomiting, diarrhoea, and fatigue, were treated on the school’s football field before being transferred to medical facilities. Fifty students were admitted to Koh Samui Hospital, seven to Wattanapat Samui Hospital, and five to Bandon International Hospital. Among the patients, one student was in a critical condition and required intensive care. Pictures courtesy of Matichon Authorities in Nonthaburi, Thailand, responded to a late-night incident involving a man allegedly under the influence of cannabis who caused significant damage to his home and neighbouring properties. The episode occurred in Bang Bua Thong district, where police were called at approximately 00:30 to address the situation. The suspect, a 42-year-old man referred to as Mr. Namfa was found naked and in a state of chaos, destroying furniture and household items within his two-story townhouse. He reportedly punched a hole in the ceiling and climbed onto the roof, damaging his own home and adjacent properties. Officers from Bang Bua Thong Police Station detained Mr. Namfa and brought him to the station to calm down. Following negotiations, his father agreed to compensate neighbours for the damage. No formal charges were filed, and Mr. Namfa was released after discussions concluded. Mr. Namfa admitted to being a daily cannabis user for over five years. He claimed that he normally felt relaxed after smoking and would sleep, but on this occasion, he used a mix of two types of cannabis without blending it with tobacco. This, he said, led to a level of intoxication that left him “unaware” of his actions. “I didn’t hallucinate or feel paranoid. I just wanted to clear out the house because it felt like I was going to move soon. I didn’t mean to destroy anything,” he stated, adding that he regretted smoking pure cannabis and vowed to quit, having promised the police chief he would try to stop. Mr. Namfa’s sister, Ms. Pu, described the night as particularly distressing. “I heard loud noises and asked him what he was doing because our father was asleep. This has happened before, but this time was worse,” she said. According to Ms. Pu, Dduring the incident, he threw household items down the stairs and even at the police officers who arrived. It took nearly 20 officers two hours to bring the situation under control. “He knows he loses control, but he refuses to seek help. We live in fear, not knowing what might happen next. I hope the authorities or a relevant organisation can intervene and get him the treatment he needs,” she added. -- 2025-01-24

Russian Father Throws Son from Speedboat Near Surin Islands, Leading to Fatality Picture courtesy of ThaiRath. Picture courtesy of ThaiRath. An incident unfolded near the Surin Islands, when a Russian father allegedly threw his young son from a speedboat, leading to fatal injuries from the boat’s propeller. Police at Kuraburi Station received a report at approximately 16:00 on January 23, from staff aboard a tourist speedboat. The report detailed an incident in which a father threw his son overboard near Koh Ra, around 200 metres from the island and 4 kilometres from Kuraburi Pier in Phang Nga province. When police arrived at the pier, they learned that the victim, identified as Lukas, a Thai-Russian dual national from That Phanom district, Nakhon Phanom, had been rushed to Kuraburi Chaiyaphat Hospital by a local foundation. The boy succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. The suspect, identified as the boy’s father, 45-year-old Mr. Artem Bugorskiy, was detained by the boat staff and handed over to police at Kuraburi Station. He is accused of intentionally causing his son’s death. According to the boat’s captain, the speedboat, carrying 33 passengers (17 Thais and 16 foreigners) and five crew members, departed the Surin Islands at around 15:00. As the boat approached Koh Ra, Mr. Bugorskiy reportedly stood up, walked over to Lukas, and lifted him by the legs and torso. Witnesses said he pushed the boy overboard from the left side of the boat near the bow. Mr. Bugorskiy then jumped into the water after his son. The captain immediately stopped the boat and circled back to assist. While the crew managed to rescue the boy, Mr. Bugorskiy refused all offers of help and declined to reboard the boat. Lukas was found floating in the water with severe injuries to his face and head, believed to have been caused by the boat’s propeller. Despite the crew’s attempts to administer first aid, his injuries proved fatal. Police have gathered witness statements and evidence, which strongly implicate Mr. Bugorskiy as the perpetrator. Given his foreign status and the risk of flight, he has been charged with murder, so was denied bail. Through an interpreter, Mr. Bugorskiy denied the allegations during questioning. Legal rights were explained to him, and he remains in custody pending further investigation. -- 2025-01-24
