  1. This is why I put the entire itinerary on one ticket instead of separate tickets for each leg.
  2. Our favorite salad is sliced tomatoes and cucumbers on a bed of salad greens. You can also add shredded carrots and finely sliced onions.
  3. Ever try to make your own salad? Wrapping veggies in paper towels and putting them in plastic bags before refrigerating keeps them fresher and extends the shelf life. If done right the used paper towels can be reused or recycled for other uses.
  4. While statistics show Hawaii as being the healthiest of the 50 states, I find that obesity is rising at an alarming rate along with the associated medical problems such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
  5. If you refer to being glued to a cellphone or TV screen all day long, I agree. This type of activity burns off very few calories.
  6. Too bad there isn't an international "no fly" list for these kinds of jerks.
  7. Unfortunately, greed is not only limited to the airline industry.
  8. I don't have a problem with MSG and use it in my cooking. I also use nam pla, but not often and not much because of its high sodium content.. A friend of mine who had a heart transplant was told by his cardiologist to avoid black pepper. Something to do about it not dissolving when consumed.
  9. I have eaten at restaurants here that specialize in serving healthy food like brown rice and dishes without nam pla and msg.
  10. Each time I visit Thailand I notice there are more obese women. Not a good sign.
  11. Agree. I am in my eighties and in fairly good physical health with a low BMI. All my life I have eaten a variety of ethnic foods, including so-called unhealthy foods. Like you say, most individuals can handle them if eaten in moderation and not a substantial part of ones diet.
  12. You must be referring to the U.S. Lucky if you live in Hawaii, although it won't be long before this deadly disease reaches Honolulu and spreads to the outer islands.
  13. Who better to send than these symbols of authority to remind them who is in power. Not a good idea, in my opinion.
  14. Add more immigration counters will not help if they are not manned.
  15. Dogs like many animals have their own unique personalities. A properly trained dog knows how to behave and wants to please his master. They last two dogs I had were rescued from indifferent owners. They were respectful and very good with children and knew not to be rough with toddlers. Both lived long, happy lives. I miss them.
  16. While grocery shopping today I saw a special on chicken leg quarters, 10lb bag (4.5 kilos) for $5 (165 baht).
  17. We are sometimes called survivalists. And yes, I have empathy for them and feel sorry for the children, but such is life.
  18. I am old enough to remember the sacrifices we made to help the Brits in WWII.
  19. Forgive my ignorance, but wouldn't an entry stamp in her passport shown her legal presence.
  20. In the U.S. each state regulates the insurance industry. Hawaii is no exception. While far from perfect, our regulators do a decent job. We also have some aggressive lawyers, with some high profile law firms specializing in insurance claims. The have impressive track records. When I injured my back my insurance company (my business was incorporated so I had to carry workmens compensation insurance) tried giving me a hard time. I told the claims adjuster she could work with me or deal with my lawyer. No problems after that. As for medical coverage, I have Medicare and Tricare for life. What Medicare doesn't cover Tricare pays the balance. Medicare costs me $165/month and I pay nothing for Tricare. The not-profit private hospital I go to has never asked for a co-payment for the few times I used their emergency room services. I rarely get sick and go to my primary care physician every six months for a checkup. By the way, I am 83 years young. Sorry about your bad experiences. Take care.
  21. After reading your comments I checked the most recent reviews for Allianz. Many 5-stars and and quite a few one-stars. Failure to submit clear and precise documentation seems to be behind most of the bad reviews. I am not one to file frivolous or questionable claims. In the past, I have always been satisfied when filing homeowners, workmens compensation and auto claims. As I have , mentioned, I have no experience with travel insurance claims and hope it stays that way. Be prepared for the worse and hope for the best.
  22. Whenever I buy my airline tickets they always offer travel/health insurance. Thankfully I have never had to file a claim. The couple of times that I haven gotten sick in Thailand from eating raw or under cooked shellfish an over the counter antibiotic has worked. My girlfriend's brother is a good diagnostic physician who we both rely on for advice. He has never let us down.
