  1. Agree, never liked paying the licence fee. But I mainly object to the ridiculous numbers of layers of management in the BBC, far more of a waste of money than the presenters (not justifying or condoning by the way). All those managers, yet so many high profile people got away with some pretty heinous acts. But I still watch BBC News as it's generally unbiased and they try to be accurate. Plenty of folks could raise items where they believe they are not of course. And so can I, but when compared with MSNBC, Fox etc. they are angels.
  2. Was not shown (in my memory) on the likes of BBC1 or 2. It was normally shown on BBC News, so if you were not able to see that channel then no surprise.
  3. Are there many/any laws fully enforced?
  4. https://www.nperf.com/en/map/TH/1153269.Hua-Hin/19345.AIS-Mobile/signal?ll=13.373587513919782&lg=101.12091064453126&zoom=8 Hopefully this link works. I randomly chose Hua Hin to generate the link, but the map can be zoomed out, moved and re-zoomed in to the user's preferred place. I found it a useful comparison tool when choosing a supplier when I was looking. I found one supplier that was pretty useless in my area so was able to avoid them.
  5. Should change my name to nevertimemetalworker 🤣
  6. Youths (guessing that means under 18). 1.30am on a school night. Parents and parenting?
  7. Sad for the child born into this. We all know that this isn't an issue that only happens in Thailand.
  8. Can't say I'm surprised at any of this. 🙈
  9. Yours is obviously stainless steel. Seems those 3 were just called that by the sales person.
  10. I'm totally happy to respect that, no matter their nationality. Obviously I can only speak for myself and nobody else.
  11. Yeah, he bottled it a bit, and it went wrong. Feel bad for saying that. Better if he'd recognised the elevated risk earlier. I fell off through my own stupidity once, but I'm still here so I was able to learn. No chance I'd do what he did now. Sad he didn't make it to realise his lesson. Wish others could learn from his mistake to reduce fatalities, but sadly I'm not confident.
  12. I wonder what he'd be thinking if someone did that to him? The shoe/boot would truly be on the other foot in that case!
  13. I preferred the Phantom Raspberry Blower of Old London Town... Especially the name of the "girl" in the opening credits...
  14. Whilst I understand your reply, I suspect many on the other side of the fence might say that Oct 7th is because of the many wrongs that Israel has visited on the Palestinian people. We all know 2 wrongs don’t make a right. In the case of this conflict that has gone on since at least the middle of the last century, there have been thousands of wrongs and few rights. I take no sides in this conflict. They are all in the wrong. In the case of the incident in question, this is a crime in my eyes. Likely manslaughter through gross negligence. That poor soul should never have been there, the person accountable for that ammunition and its placement is a criminal in my eyes.
  15. Or is iCon short for I Convict?
  16. As someone who enjoys a beer or six, of course I get what you say. But TIT and I think I'd want to respect the local culture wherever I am, whether I like it or not. At least users of this Forum know about the 17th and can "prepare"; either filling an empty fridge or flying somewhere without such restriction. Tourists going to Thailand may not know about this though, and I feel worse for them. Of course they should have known, but we all know that reality.
  17. A variety of reasons. As I know a bit about Hong Kong I did a few comparisons. All but one HK Uni is in the top 100 in the world. Research scores are all deep into the 90's (out of 100), Thai scores are between 17 (!!!!) and 50ish. But is it isn't just this that is the difference. The web site site is quite easy to navigate so you can maybe compare Thailand with wherever you are from. Better comparison (for probably only me I hasten to add) was between HK & Singapore. Both SG unis rank ahead of all HK unis, but not by much, mainly due to teaching quality and their research environments. Time HK unis got some better teachers, or at least find out why the current ones scored so badly!!
  18. I've and re-watched this video a dozen times now. Each time trying to put my brain into a different place to where I was the first time, a different way to look at it and consider it. My first look felt it was deliberate. Still probably wouldn't be attempted murder of course, unless there was evidence of a motive. Please note that almost exactly the same thing happened to me on the M25 round London about 30 years ago. I wasn't filtering, I was simply in the middle lane overtaking the slower traffic. Some geezer in the inside turned his head, looked at me (eye to eye contact made), and he turned sharply into the side of me. I landed in the outside lane at about 70mph. How nobody hit me I still don't know. I had top-quality leathers on and a good helmet. I came out of that with mild concussion, a friction burn on the elbow (inside of leathers) and a few bruises. I told the copper what happened, including that the eye contact had been made, but we both agreed that unless driver confessed then no chance to prove. We also both agreed that even though he looked at me he may not have seen me due to poor concentration, and that his mind may not have reacted to what he saw before he had committed to make the turn. But the guy got convicted of dangerous driving, rather than careless, got 5 penalty points and £500 fine. So, I'm a bit sensitive when I see this type of thing. Going back to the video, on balance, the chances are the driver saw a gap and went for it without any care for anyone else. Happens a lot without consequence, sometimes there's a prang. It happens all over the world. I won't single out Thailand on this. I've driven in worse places than Thailand for this type of thing (Italy).
  19. Replace "Boris" with "Donald"? Probably plenty of others too.
  20. Just read this. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cevypzd9gklo There's nothing better to engender confidence in the flying public, aircraft purchasers and investors than culling 10% of your workforce amid "quality concerns". An ex-employer of mine's Finance team culled a shed load of engineers to 'save money', leaving few to do the contracted work. And the CEO vetoed the legitimate concerns of the Engineering Director. Guess what? The company lost most of its overseas business as a result and is trying/failing to start again. Idiots. Yup, there's a strike, but why kill your company by failing to meaningfully negotiate (but not cave)? Seems the crazy macho management of before has passed on their craziness to the new bunch. I'm sure the union are all angels of course. All this, just as the Chinese have launched a new aircraft (Comac C919), with orders starting to roll in. The Chinese will be laughing their narrow bodies in the aisles, and in a few years the wide bodies might be laughing too. C'mon Boeing! Don't remove yourself from the marketplace through ignorance, stupid arrogant male behaviours, ignoring your senior engineers and their years of safety experience and ignoring the competition!
  21. I wonder if he got shoved in the police cells until a court appearance (or for his own safety) rather than let out on bail? Story text doesn't mention, but maybe eludes as to why the headline says what it says. I'm obviously guessing.
  22. I know there are far too many people work here without a permit, taking Thai jobs (perhaps debateable), but WTF is someone this qualified, and supposedly intelligent, think they are doing? Am assuming he is properly trained and registered in Korea of course. Guess the Thai Medical Council needs to be contacting the Korean equivalent too.
