  1. "They reason rice payment as the outstanding performance because farmers have been exploited and unjustly treated for a lon time. Payment will enable them to continue planting for the new crop season."

Yet as per another news article in another thread. These same farmers are crying poor and have their hands out begging the regime to give them a supplement so they can plant a new crop. Unbelievable. facepalm.gif

Not unbelievable when you take into account the loans and interest these farmers had to get just to eat and have electric for many months while the YL gov twiddled their thumbs blaming everyone else for the inability to pay.

YL was not twiddling her thumbs. She was trying to hang on to her democratically-elected government and then trying to stage new elections to reaffirm her mandate. The non-payment was directly the fault of Suthep and the Election Committee.

You're not Smart. Don't rewrite history. The payments stopped before Suthep's protests started.

The first of your 3 sentence was enough Pmugghc. thumbsup.gif

    Not so smart, Bill.

Mid-2013 the Yingluck Administration said to need 270 billion Baht for the 2013/2014 RPPS period and to have the funding. Slowly rumours about non-payment started to emerge and in December 2013 the, by now caretaker, government suddenly wanted to borrow 130 billion. With the RPPS now nearly ended close to 200 billion has been paid out since December 2013.

Thanks for saving me the effort Rubl. thumbsup.gif

Coma you obviously know little about farming. The farmers debts go back at least for the past two seasons. That's three years living on borrowed money. They can't simply close their farms for three years, as they need to be kept viable to grow a crop. The fact that several farmers suicided in the past six months because of their debt, speaks for itself. Yes they need to become wiser and better educated about marketing and production, but a little compassion for this group as they try to resolve their debt situation and just break even, may be more helpful.

Why continue in an occupation or business that is not viable ?? All the VCR repairmen around the world had to find a new career when DVD came out. Nobody is holding a gun to these peoples heads telling them to continue farming rice. wink.png

  4. Don't make the mistake of assuming you know anything about me.But I can tell you I pay taxes which are spent on these farmers, whom I might say the majority don't pay anything, so have a right to an opinion. If farming is so hard then they can always take up another profession. Plenty of labouring work around ATM after all the Cambodians left the country. Cheers.

Apt username............perhaps you should stay in one.

    Rice farmer ??

Instead of slagging off at them from your financially secure air conditioned comfort how about putting yourself in the position of working for months then having your boss tell you "I will pay you sometime, might be next week, next month"

The average Thai rice farmer is never going to be rich. At todays price they are lucky to make a profit at all. At most 2-3k bht per rai. If you live in Isaan it is nigh on impossible to survive just as a rice farmer. Even in those places where 2 or more crops per year are possible it is neccessary to find extra work to survive.

Or send one's children to Pattaya.

  8. " A number of people hearing of her arrival to make merit on birthday anniversary came to greet her with flowers and support, and say best wishes for her ".

Amazing !!! Similar phenomenon occurs in the Philippines when Imelda Marcos is seen in public.

Saddam Hussein also got greeted like a god. Until the greeters eventually executed him.rolleyes.gif

  9. It is just the Embassy Security Detachment "SECDET" redeploying. After the invasion there was first a platoon then it was up sized to a company to conduct VIP escort and compound [ Embassy ] protection/security. Most probably has a couple of LAV'S and some MP's attached to the Infantry contingent. NOT SASR.

Definitely not a token gesture to appease the U.S. It is simply a diplomatic protection mission. Not a war fighting mission. I believe the US just deployed a similar force to protect its missions inside Iraq.

  10. The have caught up with the mother, father and child. No charges were laid. The mother stated that she was just disciplining her child like all parents do after her he threw a rock at another child splitting his head open. But the VDO clip, which was taken 2 months ago, looked worse than it actually was. The reason they fled was they were worried that the authorities would take her child away from her.

    What's your source?

Thai newspaper. If you want the source PM me and I will send you the link. Cannot provide it here cuz of rules.

  11. Why ban these witnesses from testifying ? We don't want any excuses coming back saying she was not given a fair go.

Again, this is NOT a court case, it is only an investigation to decide whether there should be a court case. Having multiple witnesses all saying the same thing is not good for this case. The investigators of this case are well within their agenda to cut out all the bullshit. wai2.gif

Show me WHERE I referred to it being a "court case". wai2.gif

    Testifying ???

Nope. Fail ! You can testify at a Senate hearing. Is that a court ? NO.
