  1. I am interested in one of the increasingly popular full health checks, but I have no idea where to go or what to ask for. I'm young enough to not be too worried, but as the price is lower here in Thailand I may as well have things done.

I am not interested in Bumungrad suggestions as that is way too expensive for me (plus i'll be paying for the wife too), but if there is anybody that has good/bad/horror tales to tell about the lower end of the market I would be most grateful.

I have been Kluaynamthai on sukhumvit before and was rather pleased with the service.

In particular I am interested in a liver function test as that is one part of me that has seen some 'action in the trenches' and I noticed something a few weeks ago that made me think :o .

    Any advice is welcome!

    Dirk!

  2. I liked number 27 the most.

The coldest slap in the face was meeting my boozy pals whilst sober. It dawned on me, "did I really laugh at this pri#k's jokes".

Worse still. "Did I look as stupid?". "why have I never spoken the the stunning barmaid?"

I may not be not be totally out of the bar yet, but at least I have my hat on and I'm standing before the door.

  3. I have had it both ways. A friend of my wifes brother seems to get a kick out of helping me out. No idea why! Maybe he gets bragging rights with his pals. On the other hand I have done all sorts for a lady in my office and she would choke rather than pass me a pen.

I have no idea what goes on in their heads.

  4. Without wishing to sound "helpless", any advice on how to stop this invasive marketing from Orange?

My phone is not on contract, just a simple SIM that I top-up and this works well for me. Except, that is, for silly spam messages. I was told (guy in a bar) that deleteing them without opening them slows them down. I was told that they send a signal back to 'HQ' when you open them. If you set your phone up so as you can see the first line of the message you can identify spam and delete it. I tried it and I now get far fewer, but I'd like none at all.

  5. Thanks Pat, that was just the kind of time and date advice I needed. You really seem to know what is what. Any tips?

Thanks, I have been before and find the 'lower orders', as it were, to be part of the experience. The idea of flash watches and people being judged by their mobile phone would add nothing for me.

I will putting bets on any name with 'green' in it in honour of the most bizzare post ever from Greenshone.

  6. At first glance Pompooeyman, your post comes across as rather facetious. Missing question marks and silly smilies gave me that impression, but maybe your just new in town.

As far as I know there are two tracks in BKK, both close to Silom. One of which you can see from the skytrain.

To the best of my knowledge there are races every Sunday, at either one track or the other.

As for question 3, I will try not to mention Pattaya, girls, a legaly defined age of for a prostitute in a country that 'outlaws' prostitution or, for that matter, a country where lottery tickets are on sale. Anyway, you go to the booth and state the name of the horse and hand over your money.

It's a great day out and you just don't know who you will be rubbing shoulders with.

  7. yes, very sad day for BKK residents. Being right next to the park and subway was both a blessing and a curse for the night bazzar. It made it easy to get to and valuable for developers who think we need more malls.

I'm surprised that they didn't relocate to a new spot.

  8. I recall buying an I-Pod before flying somewhere. As I passed through King Power(ful lies) I checked the price, as you do. With discount it was over 3k more in K.P. I asked the guy if he was sure. He just shrugged and said "that's the price and walked away". Obviously he had heard it before.

However, nothing compares to the robbery that was the stand selling ray skin wallets. With a 50% DISCOUNT they were still 7000baht.

Thais must think that Duty Free means Free of the Duty not to trick customers.

  9. Does anybody know if the horse tracks are open on 12-08-07? If so, which track is open?

The reason I ask is that it is H.M the Queen's birthday and I was wondering if it would be biz as usual.

    Any advice would be great.

  10. My views of Islam are tainted by the sight of British born Muslims cheering and clapping in the carpark of their mosque on 9-11. Yes! Clapping and cheering in theri place of worship to their god of peace at the sight of 1000's of people dying.

I presume many are like Deon (above), but an awful lot are not as balanced.

  11. I have been thinking about a full service in Bangkok for a while. However, as I am still at an age where things should be fine, I have no idea where to go or what to ask for.

Any recommendations for Bangkok at the lower end of the price range (read as "out of my own pocket").

The only thing I would like to pay special attention to is a liver test. There is, after a hedonistic youth, a chance that it's not perfect.

  12. Will the Thais listen? I doubt it, unless Gore is backed by penny whistles, silly 'boing' sounds and a host of teens crying at every silly antic.

In all fairness. Do many of the people in this country know where the poles are? Then in the face of some Thai 'scientist' that claimed rising tides won't affect Thailand, I doubt anyone would listen.

  13. Gotcha! I'm a big fan of Limewire. Very easy to use. Seems light on spyware. Huge range of stuff. I have discovered the joys of bands I would never have paid for. Hopefully the new internet laws wont mess it up.
