  1. This sucks so much, I dont usually care that much about celebrities but Robin Williams was great, loved this commercial he did with his daughter a few years ago, cant imagine what his kids are going through now. I wonder what must have been going through his mind to make him do this?

  2. To give a bit more info and some more questions:

Im not going to there home, we have a 3 day vacation planned to the beach with me and the gf, the parents, one of her sisters and some cousins, we are taking a minivan there and I will be meeting the parents when they first arrive at our condo where the mini van will pick us up from so it will just be a quick hello and then into the van where we may chat further.

I suppose Im just looking for something to say after the usual 'Hell0 and nice to meet you both' in Thai, they will have travelled down from the north the night before so I supposed I could ask how the journey was?

Any suggestions of what else to say then would be welcome. Tbh even in English Im not sure, I guess I would comment on the weather or something...

One of my concerns is that if the old-boy takes me to one said and gives me the 'dont mess around with my daughter' speech, what should I say?

  3. Ok guys, I think that the OP has gotten the answer to his question.

As such, you shouldn't need to post any further comments, unless they are specifically related to the Thai Language smile.png

Yes thanks SlyAnimal, I posted here specifically to avoid the general forum crowd and the 'TAKE YOUR ATM CARD' type comments, I'm looking for some real Thai language tips here...

  4. So Im meeting my gfs parents soon, we have been living together for over a year and are quite serious so this is important.

I have a fairly good/ok grasp of Thai and converse just fine along with being able to read and write (a little). Im trying to think of what I will say when I first meet the in-laws and Im drawing a total blank, all I can think of is 'Hello, nice to meet you' and beyond that nothing :(

Can anyone give me some tips?

  5. There's barely any of the story here, in the Thai news and esp. on Facebook there's a lot more to this. This girl and her mum and coach made a big deal out of this and were basically saying he had to apologise to her in front of the media etc etc the problem is her claims of what he did were ridiculous, she said he hit her 10 times or something and broke her jaw which has led to thousands of comments on Facebook asking why she is talking so much cheesy.gif.pagespeed.ce.HaOxm9--Zv.gif

The coach is one of the top 5 in the world and apparently the South Korean team have been making huge offers to him now but many Thai athletes have been trying to get him back along with members of the public and this girl has been basically been called out hard on social media for all the claims she made (I think as usual there was talk of using and compensation right after her claims were made). There's been some other things about her old coach who was in on all this so that he could force his way in as head coach for the Thai team or something.

The coach himself said he's been in Thailand 10 yrs and knows the culture well, he has also said that if he had hit her 10 times she would know about it laugh.png

This story is looking more and more like a stuck up brat and her mum trying to make a name for herself and get some compo

  6. I have a few questions about the above:

Are there any packages available that cover both health and accident for couples (Thai and Foreign)?

I dont really know much about how these things work, does it mean that everything is covered? So for example if either of us are sick we just go to the hospital and we dont have to pay anything? I guess there's usually some fine print to read and be careful of?

Does health cover major illnesses such as cancer?

Would it be better to get a joint package or individual ones? For myself Im really not worried about my health as throughout my life Ive barely ever been sick and Im fairly healthy so just want accident cover in case I get hit by a car or something. I would want both for my gf though as her health isnt great and I worry about things in the future for her.

Anything else I should know about before buying this?

    thanks

  7. I think this is nothing but a wind-up/troll post, its too much of a 'perfect storm' situation plus the fact that its a brand new user account. Most likely its another user who has been bickering with someone else in another thread about how this clampdown is going to 'devastate' Thailand and ruin people like offshore workers and he has made a new account and this thread to prove a point and spread rumours....

  8. OP what school was this and were you told in writing or you went there?

I think you may have things mixed up with this which is how it is done now:

90 day extensions at Chang Wattana, you need to take a pile of documents stamped and signed from the school every time you do this

After 1 year if you want to study for another year you need to go to MOE to do a Thai language test

The MOE has nothing to do with your extensions and having every single student having to truck down to the MOE offices every 90 days to do tests would be a nightmare and not realistic, but then again TiT so you never know eh

Either way I fully expect the ED visa requirements to get a big shake-up soon, most likely they will increase the number of fixed hrs you need to study (which will of course drive the source prices up) and start doing stringent spot checks on schools and attendances.

  9. They said white was fine and the poster with examples of right and wrong photos had one with a white background and marked as a good example.

Only took me 5 mins to hand in, guy before me was in the office for like 45 mins though.

The office is where they do all the UK visas also, pretty big place and well run HOWEVER there is only ONE tiny office with one person doing the UK passports so I guess thats why it took 2 weeks for them to fit me in, I guess its not crossed anyones mind that adding a few more staff and offices to take applications might speed things up a bit blink.png

  10. I have my meeting at Trendy to hand mine in tomorrow, can anyone confirm what Ive done is correct for getting a new passport?

Filled in the application form for sections, 1,2,3,5 and 9

I put my Thai address on the form

Filled in the debit payment form for the total fee of 114.01 GBP which is for the 48 page one and includes the courier fee, this was with my UK debit card btw with its UK registered card address

Colour copies of every page in my passport and signed each page

    2 passport photos

Letter from my school on their letter headed paper saying I study there with the start and end dates, my full name, passport number and address also their Ministry Of Education details and finally their official stamp

Have I missed anything or done anything wrong here?

    thanks

Your checklist looks good, providing your appearance has not changed significantly since your last application and the address on the letter from your school matches the address on your application form, then all your ducks seem nicely lined up.

Assuming you did remember to fill out the forms in black plus that your passport photos have the legal head size, grey/cream background, etc. then all should be ok.

yeah done all that, photos have a white background I guess that will be ok though

  12. 4 out of 5 top threads are about England's team. They're out.

my prediction: Bosnia are going to go through, and knock some conventions off their marble pedestals.

This is part of the hype problem surrounding England also, I find it a bit embarrassing and pathetic when you look at 'lesser' teams who just get on with it....

  13. OK so I still have an appointment at Trendy for June 25th to renew my passport, should I go to this then and start the process or should I do the 12 month extension thing? I need to point out that Im applying for a new passport as the current one is basically FULL (half a page left) and not expiring soon.

The situation is looking really, really grim now, I have enough space for my next 90 day report stamp extension thing and then my visa expires mid October when Im planning to go to the UK for a trip and also apply for a new visa, Im wondering if Im even going to get it back by then now if I start the process now...
