Actually the foreign press has been almost totally PRO-government in their spin of what's going on. Few if any first world countries news reports show the slightest sympathy to the red-rabble side in this matter.

    That's not true.

I read articles on the protests in the London Times. New York Times, London Telegraph, The Economist etc. Almost all articles reference the post 2006 political shenanigans resulting in Abhisit assuming the role of PM.

And if it's not our business, why do you have so much to say on the issue? (and you know that is true)

  2. You didn't say to restrict to what's available in Thailand, so for me it's a very large cup of strong Major Dickason's blend Peet's French press brewed coffee. Black.

    post-37101-1272869739.jpg

First..........I have never had a good cup of coffee in Thailand :):D

Second.......the best coffee is what I got back in the USA: dark beans (any kind), freshly ground, and made in a coffee maker (no fancy machine......no whipping cream, etc) w/ coffee mate added and a bit of sugar.

    I like strong coffee....with a great smell.

Having said that, virtually any roadside diner in the USA serves better coffee than you can get in Thailand :D:D

Ok, you lost all credibility when you mentioned the fake creamer. You do know it's a petroleum-based product don't you?

That's after you lost most credibility by saying you have never had a good cup of coffee in Thailand.

There are several good Northern Thai based coffee producers.

Duang Dee is 100% arabica. Hand-picked and organic.

  3. A new tire specifically for the CBR150r from IRC was mentioned in one of the above (recent) posts.

I just checked the ircthailand website and they have a model designed specially for the CBR150 Sport Club with high performance in mind. :)

Would this be the new tire and has anyone heard or read any reports?

The model is NR77U in their Premium Wings line.

  4. ^^

I agree that this is very good butter.

BTW, this is actually a "cultured" butter.

Their salted version is not "cultured"

For those who don't know, cultured butter has the same "cultures" as yoghurt. ( I'm too lazy to look up the real multi-syllable word).

  5. I think Honda San and his competitors in Thailand have a lot to answer for! :):D

I've lost count of the number of shapely female legs I've seen that have wicked motorcycle burn scars.

Got my first burn within a month of starting to ride here 8 years ago. I learned to always pay attention to where my leg was in relation to the exhaust pipe.

A moment's inattention and I got my second burn 2 months ago! Luckily, not a bad one and daily aloe vera treatment saw it gone in about 3 weeks with only a bit of pink skin to show. Probably tan-over in another couple of months.

I guess this means those exhaust protectors all the newer scoots have don't really work. :D

  6. Thanks guys very good answers, and from top posters here.

I will tell her to speak to my insurance, and not to me, obviously trying it on.

From what I can make out, she had a broken right leg, and the hospital fees were 100,000 (not 100% on this though), por ror bor covered 50,000, and my A1 the rest.

My A1 insurance has cover of 1 mil per person, and 10 mil per accident

    Hang on forkin!

    "Trying it on..." Sheesh. :)

The hospital bills should be the end of it?

Ever had a broken leg? Ever been hit from behind whilst on a motorbike?

The broken leg can interfere with her ability to work at least temporarily.

A little sympathy is in order here. 'specially since it won't be coming out of your pocket.

  7. Oh jeez, we can't even get away from news about this monger while here in Thailand. :) Maybe we can get away from the Tiger news if we travel on over to Burma. Later dude. Burma or bust. The guy is a d**che bag extraordinaire...a first class dirt bag.

    Ha ha!

By the way, how long since they released you?

Please don't tell your Cali crew I laughed at you.... :D

The sig is OK but a bit political for everyday use.

  8. Trying to disprove a fact(Goa) seemingly to make the situation here in Thailand more credible with property issues, well its like walking on quicksand,it surely will give way.

it is good to know that God has been sending prophets again to enlighten us :)

    Naam

You are a level-headed "just give me the facts" kind of guy. I know from following your posts over the years that you benefit from the tax savings on your income here in Thailand.

But to ignore what is happening in Goa and Spain to expatiates who have chosen to buy homes in these popular locations, is akin to burying your head in the sand. These are very disquieting developments for those who said Thailand would never move on "quasi-legal" schemes that skirt the intent of the law. In fact, in both countries, they are "re-interpreting" what were once acceptable ways to own a private home. And there seems to be no collateral damages to these countries. So much for the "they would never dare" school of thought. :D

  9. There is no basis for legal secure ownership ( in your own name ) of a house with property. And I'm aware of all the common "work-arounds".

Whereas the chanote to a condo has your name on it, and is the only legal route for an individual to own property.

    :)

  10. This thread says it all how good it is about buying a condo in Ptty, buyers beware:

    /quote]

Bit of an OTT statement wouldn't you say?

How about " Best stay clear of houses and land. Dodgy ownership and all that."

    Similar, no? :)

  11. I had chicken mole in a very nice rooftop restaurant in Mexico City. I found it a bitter mildly spicy dish. i did not like it.

My friend's wife, a Zapotec Indian, has cooked for me several times. Some of it was.....tasty.

My apologies in advance to Jingthing for swinging wildly off topic but perhaps he could make a poll about this story.

This woman came to Canada at 19 years old. sponsored by my friend, who is approximately 15 years older than she. She arrived speaking very little English. I met her at that time. She had an incomplete education but obtained her equivalent high school diploma. Entered university and emerged with Masters Degrees in Archaeology and Spanish. She is now teaching in the Catholic school system.

They have been married for almost 20 years now. My friend has prospered in this time and they are quite well-off. And a teenage son that my friend dotes on.

I wonder how many Thai emigre partners success stories there are like this?

Anyway, she made good chilli reyennos (sp?) :) Almost back on topic...

  12. Squatting is usually not too difficult if you are not overweight, but is everyone here who claims to be able to do what the OP asked really telling the truth?

The 'Asian' squat keeps the soles of the feet flat on the ground. Non-Asians, (including myself), squat with my heels raised off the floor. If I force my foot flat on the floor, then I fall over backwards because my center of gravity doesn't allow this.

    Simon

PS - Somewhere I have a great photo of 6 village kids squatting/balancing on the top of a fence, just like chickens!!

Yep, I'm telling the truth. :)

The problem you describe has always been a source of amusement for me as only about 10% of Westerners seem to be able to do it. (Subjective observation)
