  1. Internet radio does not count in this discussion.

    Why not, i live in Pattaya and you asked what our fav radio station was, if the "local" ones were not complete and utter crap maybe i would tune into them as well.

    Because most readers of English would read the question as "What radio station that originates in Pattaya. :)

    Otherwise, with the plethora of net radio stations, the list would be endless.

    We are exchanging local knowledge.

    Pretty mundane topic for my 500th post...

    Ah well, maybe my 501st post will be a gem!

  2. The Thai Judicial system should be ashamed of themselves.

    I have lost count of how many times I have read news articles on thefts involving deliberately crashing the victim's motorbike. This is a quantum leap above simple theft. It is assault with a dangerous weapon resulting in physical harm to the victims. Many of these news reports contain the throwaway comment that the perps were known to be serial offenders, as in this case, or out on remand from the exact same offense.

    The police have done their job but are being let down by the courts.

    Meanwhile, the young kid with 5-10 yaba tablets is banged up immediately. And I know that the thieves are spending much of the loot on yaba themselves. But it seems like cart before the horse. Priority to the people injuring other people to feed their ( artificially high priced ) drug habit.

  3. To All My Liberal Friends:

    Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2010, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make Canada great. Not to imply that Canada is necessarily greater than any other country nor the only country in the Western Hemisphere . Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wish.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    And To My Conservative Friends:
    Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in the year of our Lord Jesus Christ 2010.
  4. ^Legislation that isnt so restrictive.
    Ohh and your translation is partly accurate, I let you figure which part. :)
    Murderer or terrorist? :D
    I know you think you are right. I think I am right.
    The side you support has had 70+ years to show they were right. They have failed and continue to fail. Russia, China and Iran all have drug problems spiraling out of control. I'm sure ( with their human rights record ) that they are already using some version of your plan. Guess what? It's not working for them either. Can't you see that? Is your mind so closed that you see only one solution?
  5. I REPEAT, its very difficult to win the war on drugs when the legislation provided does not go far enough. How bout we change a few laws, give it a couple of more years with some DECENTLY BACKED ENFORCEMENT before we go transforming the world into a haven for junkies.
    Translation:
    Give me a few years of a free hand and I'll kill and terrorize so many of the "enemy" that it will be generations before they challenge us again.
    I'm sure this is the approach the KGB and all other oppressive forces have used in the past.
    Dispute my translation? You can't be talking about more severe "legal" penalties as they are already in place.
    neverdie, you are playing a losing hand and history will show this to be so.
  6. Well so far, I think, we are having a reasonably civilized exchange of views. :)
    neverdie's experiences in dealing with "drug fueled violence" has coloured his views, as they might mine, if I had ever experienced same. But here is the point...the law as it stands "requires" that addicts(ie heroin, meth, as there are no pot addicts) indulge in illegal acts as few would have legal incomes sufficient to pay for the artificially high prices.
    Prohibition does not have a successful record. It does not work. So its your side of the argument that is waving faerie wands and hoping for successful outcomes. Indeed, it is the prohibitionists who are the fuzzy-thinking social engineers. Wanting to save everybody from themselves. Our side of the argument are the true free marketers. Individual choice and responsibility.
    A free market eliminates the criminal profit, so no drug lords/cartels. No disruption of society funded by their obscene profits. Most of the social ills are a consequence of the illegality of drugs and what people do to get them, rather than the drugs themselves.
    Geriatrickid is so far off on a tangent that his arguments have little credibility. Thailand is never going to be an example of doing anything right as long as it remains a feudalistic, corruption riddled society.
  7. Don't I just love Thai bashing in here, Thais this Thais that.
    True there are many ruthless drivers in Bangkok, but 30 years I have born and lived here there are far more plentiful good drivers in the country, Bangkok is just a weird chaotic city.
    I ask you foreigners to stop generalising from the fragment of the country that you see (especially if you spend most of your time in Sukhumvit, that's not really Thailand). It's very immature to think you know this country and everyone in it through and through, and not fair for Thailand as well.
    And please don't try to connect to something else like 'Thais have no regard for anything, no education, no sense of humor, no professional skills whatsoever, no compassion and no regard for their own land. Beside ripping off people, killing others with their guns or with their trucks, they are good at absolutely nothing.' That's bit harsh isn't it? If we all were really like how could we have even survived at all until these days? Plus, saying that makes you sound more like a bitter old fool.
    This accident was caused by ONE SINGLE bad driver (we don't even know if s/he's Thai), not the whole country's fault.
    Who to believe?
    You or my lying eyes? :)
  8. :) Why show compassion to people who know by selling drugs they are killing people. Should we show compassion to gun runners? Or perhaps the poor who steal & mug people to get cash to buy drugs. Or best of all lets all have a group hug for the terrorists (from Pakistan by the way) who fund themselves from drug deals. Compassion.....eat my rectal remains.
    Rectal remains? Eeuuw!
    Do you mean like the liquor manufacturers? Or the tobacco manufacturers? Or the armament manufacturers?
    Those terrorists will be pretty hard up for funds when there is no criminal profit to be had by dealing drugs. Get it?
  9. Talk about not seeing the forest for the trees!
    When drugs are illegal, only "criminals" will have drugs! The logic is pretty straightforward. :)
    As for the police having to deal with the problem with one hand tied behind their back, would you opt for the Communist Chinese approach (In their early days. Their approach these days is pretty much the same as other nations. Containment in the never-ending war.) and shoot all the users? Your fellow citizens by the way. Who needs a civil war by another name?
    There are plenty of smart people out there who could work out the mechanics of legalization. The Mad Max scenario you paint is not the only option. The present system does not work. Period.
  10. When you've walked in the shoes of myself or one of my collegues, lets see where you pathetic lets legalise it all rubbish theories stand then, until then flame me all you like, afterall its the only thing you know how to do.
    You think you can just legalise all these illicit drugs and not have any more problems, change the legislation and everything else just disappears, magical. :)
    Hey neverdie
    Does the above statement mean you are a present or former policeman? The Law Enforcement Against Prohibition organization has , I believe, 15,000+ members. They also have been on the front lines and are looking for a different approach.
    As to what might disappear ? Let me list a few things...
    1 Drug Cartels
    2 Murders over drug turf
    3 Young people rotting in foreign and domestic prisons
    4 An ever expanding prison system
    5 A funding source for terrorists
    6 The risk that countries like Mexico will implode and export drug violence into the USA
    7 Etc, etc.......
    If by some chance you meant you are related to emergency medical services, then you know that most accidents involve liquor.
    Or, by colleagues, you meant the other guys at the water cooler?
  11. I am not bragging because I have lent and lost but everyone reading this can learn from me because I learned my lessons.
    My policy is that when a friend asks to borrow money I have the same stock reply: I don't lend money to any one even my mother. If you need money for food I am here to help you because i am your friend. Let's go now and buy you some food. Are you hungry? I will buy you some food. That usually shames them and shuts them up. After that I disown them forever as a friend because they are not a friend but a leach and crook. I would rot in hel_l before asking to borrow from a friend.
    Then from a family member the same response. However Thai family members are persistant as all hel_l so I recently consented after saying no 4- 5 times.
    These were my terms: They pay 14% interest. The chanote on the condo (raan khaay khong) goes in my name and they pay all transfer fees. And they put 50% down and I finance only 50% of purchase price. Tough ass terms because i was pissed off at having to say no so many times. So, get this: the terms were so tough and strong that they have paid back 30% in 6 months already and are still happy with me. I'm happy with 14% too.
    I think I have this down good now. The answer is no no no and go to hel_l friend or family member. Unless you let me rape you. Then, I say yes and it's gonna hurt so much that you will regret asking me and any other friend/family meber with ideras of asking me will be too fearful of the answer to even try to ask. It works!!
    Any other attitude you might as well flush your money down the toilet or give it to a bargirl for free. Brutal but it is reality and thai has nothing to do with it. It's not a thai thing. Falangs can be as big scumbags as thais and mostly bigger.
    Next: is anyone interested in my policy towards renting condos to falangs??? You don't want to know my terms.........
    To the original poster: why aren't you holding gold or have a chanote in your name already?? It cost me a price to learn my lesson too. Hope you have learned your for this life.
    Holy Shit! :)
    Do you even have any friends? Takes all kinds I guess.
  12. ^^
    That garage is called "Odd's Garage". Although I have only used them the once (recently tho), i would recommend them. One of their mechanics tuned up my BMW better than the specialist garage i usually use. Markedly better. I keep meaning to stop in and tell him how pleased I am.
    For brake pads though, a major tire seller might be better, as they can do a re-balance and alignment after the brake job.
  13. I think there was an inversion weather event last night.
    All the little and not so little fires lit by the Thais to burn garbage resulted in the smoke staying close to the ground.
    Combined with the mist we still have this morning, it really reduced visibility when looking out from my balcony.
