  1. Time to look again Thaifan2!

Angket is currently being renovated/upgraded. :)

A new two-tone paint scheme is being applied to the exterior. Lobby, elevators(lifts), and pool area are getting a face-lift. Stop by now to look or wait about 2 months to see it completed.

No longer the ugly duckling of Jomtien, it's morphing into a swan.

I hope they have some sense of taste in the colour scheme. Pattaya Sombat Condotel (on Pratumnak Soi 4) was in bad need of a coat of paint, so a while back they got the brushes out and it's now a truly awesome snot-green colour. I assume there must have been a special offer on paint colours that resemble unpleasant body fluids...

    :D

Angket's gone for a darkish beige as the main colour with brown as an accent on the balcony exterior walls. It's too dark a colour for my taste but is a tremendous improvement nevertheless.

Angket was in bad shape due to being a holdover from the problems of the late '90's. The Bank owned a very large block of rooms which they were unwilling to parcel out. They paid no maintenance fees on that large block hence funds were short.

Recently, BlissTel, the Thai mobile retailer, bought that block and is fronting up the money for the building re-fit.

The derelict building was not part of the deal and, aside from proximity, no longer has an association with Angket.

That said, it is on the market and someone will snap up that big corner lot. But maybe not for a while. :)

  3. The price seems about right .Yours is a double unit ( two studios connected ,and so around 60 sqm ) . JBC is a good complex.I live there myself .

    >>Condos (45 sqm I think) in Angket are being advertised at 5K Baht/month. You'd need transport, but it's not too far from the beach (just off Soi Wat Boon)<<

Angket has got to be one of the most run down looking Condos in Pattaya .An absolute eye sore .

I was about to make a sarcastic reply to your question when I noticed you are a venerable member. Number 174! :D

In almost all of your recent posts, you bemoan your fate in having ended up in Pattaya. The fact that you've posted in the Pattaya forum seems to have escaped you. :)

I wish you a speedy return to Phuket.

  5. What do I have to do to get a decent Aussie burger.

Head over to Cafe Uno in soi Khao Noi, I get them to make me up a burger with the lot (i pre purchase my own beetroot) and its as fookin lush as can be.

    What is this hamburger/beetroot connection?

You Aussies don't really put beetroot on your burgers do you? :)

  6. Oh Joy!

Could it be that a TV'er that read our thread regarding finding a decent American(Canadian) burger has decided that he shall be the Burger Messiah?

    The name seems promising.... :)

    Awaiting jingthing's critique.

  7. They are coming out of the woodwork!! :D

Do you think if we sat back we could get lovelomsak ( sure glad he won't be here too long as his nic is a pain to type) and abcF to engage in a little back-and-forth?

Oughta be good for a laugh. :)

  8. If there is video of the attack on the German (or others) this should be all that's necessary for prosecution.

Assuming the victim is identified and wishes to prosecute.

Failing this, money talks, and should this ever occur to myself or a friend (highly unlikely) 10,000 Baht would buy a lot of justice. And I want video. Mobile-phone video acceptable.

Perhaps the people who make an effort to video these events should make the video available to the victims in the future.

  9. Apparently some Retirement Extension holders have obtained Work Permits.

I personally know one person who fit the above description although that was 3-4 years ago. I did read recently that this practice, "officially" not allowed, is being curtailed.

That report stated that their Work Permits are not being renewed. Chonburi was one area where the practice was more widespread than in other provinces.

  10. The original book on Thai women is "A Woman of Bangkok" by Jack Reynolds first published in 1956.

My copy was a third printing in 1968, If you can find this book grab it.

I have a copy of this book in good condition and inside the cover it says.....

"printed in Thailand 1985-1992" No mention of a Publisher though.

Agree that it's worth looking for, though hard to find.

It's very amusing to see how little has changed since the 1950's! :)
