  1. huh?

In the Census of 2000 the South had a population of 8,057,518 or 13.3 per cent.

That is a minority as the whole of Thailand has a population of over 65 million people.

    More clear now?

555 ... got it they are a Minority so can be disregarded ......

then there's the west .... they are a minority so may be disregarded .... oh and the South East? .... oi!

an amazing level of arrogance there don't you think?

  2. I suppose that from a historical perspective, it's a good thing for the Americans of today that the many French, German, Polish, etc. involved in helping the colonialists during the American Revolution didn't share the same philosophy of complete non-involvement.

That was 230 years ago but this very day in Milwaukee, Phoenix and LA Hispanics are staging huge protest marches across the country, as big as the PAD ones, fighting for the right to have a visa that the US government under new legislation will make almost impossible. 230 years later Americans are still revolting, this time in the streets.

    Good for them!

I fail to see any point other than peaceful assembly is OK ....

That people of one background are upset that the US does NOT have an open immigration policy shouldn't be surprising at all!

  3. IMHO ...... Bangkok is the only city in Thailand with a true "gay scene"

The other cities that have gay venues are mostly "commercial" and even in BKK there is a pretty large "commercial" aspect to the non-commercial venues in Silom.

That being said there are TONS of non-commercial venues for people that live here and speak some Thai ... and no I do not mean just the saunas ....

((There are also quite a few commercial venues for Thais that are off the beaten track as well))

I love the scene in BKK and almost never go to Silom at all. ((That being said ... check out a place called @Richards in Soi Freeman <Silom Soi 2/1> quieter than most ... decent food ... nice guys ... and the owners are frendly and helpful about giving advice about local happenings

  4. That is why we have laws and a judicial system.

The case was clear cut and people were enraged. I doubt anyone even thought about judicial system, and people here don't have much faith in it anyway. I think obligations to protecting religion, especially in a shocking case like this, stand higher than civil laws for many people here in Thailand.

It's nice to sit here and weigh various options, but, like one of the previous poster said - if you ask what will happen to someone who commit such an offence in Thailand, ten out of ten people would say you'll get lynched on the spot. That's the reality.

Why was the case clear cut? How many of the people involved actually witnessed him smashing it, and how many were told what had happened, and got caught up in the blood lust?

I stated earlier that I would have expected him to be assaulted if he did this. I also said it was wrong to react that way. I would also expect anyone who did react in such a way to be dealt with under the law

You cannot deny that he was murdered by a bunch of vigilantes, half of whom probably werent fully aware of the facts of the case. That is wrong.

Well ... the reports say that the Garbage truck guys were right there to see it ... they have been charged with murder ... so what is your point?

  5. Soic ... come to Thailand ... loosen up some!

*phew*... thanks jdinasia... I was beginning to think I had somehow stumbled upon the americanvisa.com forum.

John .... the world is full of idiots ....

It just seems like in here the USA thing polarizes people .... I mean we have people that cannot actually READ reports ... and then we have people that think they can speak for EVERYONE of a specific nationality etc etc

  6. Residency does not entitle one to vote in Thailand

I think you will find PR does. :o You can apply for Thai citizenship once you have had PR for 5 years and meet the other qualifications. Once you have Thai citizenship, you can own land, vote, be a Thai shareholder and do not need a work permit.

a Natrualized citizen (or a citizen) can vote ... after all you are a citizen

Residency does not entitle one to vote

    http://www.thaivisa.com/300.0.html.

    and according to that ^^

An alien with permanent residency status will be eligible to apply for Thai citizenship after 10 consecutive years under this classification.

Hope you get some better info soon Noodles
