    Ditto & I've lived there for five years. During this time I've seen ONE cop riding a motor bike following a pick-up belching black smoke. He was breathing through the sleeve of his uniform by riding one handed. No arrest was made as the cop turned into Tops.

    Agree. In EVERY walk of Thai society, corruption is endemic. Now is it Nature or Nurture? I cannot believe Thai children are born bent so they must learn it by observation. I firmly believe that the average Thai first meets corruption by interaction at the village policeman level

    In most countries criminals are often told not to leave the country, except in Thailand where they are encouraged to do so. I hope he got a UK Visitor visa without any trouble. I wonder if he used an agent?

    The 1st thought that occurred to me after declaring, yesterday, that Thais have no work ethic forcing the country to rely on exploiting foreign workers.

    Damn - just completed the process successfully after submitting 47 A4 documents & paying for English translation & answering such mind boggling questions as; 'Are you a terrorist?' Mind you 'active talks' suggests it won't happen in my life-time.

    I am 81 so no not now. In my 20s & 30s I held THREE jobs to ensure my children had a good life. My generalisation obviously excludes the exceptions but the general rule continues; ask any farang employer.
