  1. Can anyone help? One year ago my State Pension was stopped. I did not notice as my UK bank is difficult to log into. I believe they may have sent a proof of life form to either my UK address or my Thai one. Either way it never got to me. I have found an email address which only deals with Changes of Circumstances but the only reply I have had is instructions on how to get my identity confirmed by having a VIP witness my passport. I am 81 and my circle of acquaintances is smaller and getting smaller with each passing year. None of them work in the prestigious jobs specified as being suitable to sign. They owe me over 5000 UKP. Has anyone any ideas on how to rectify this state of affairs without travelling to UK? Anyone got an email address to which I could write? Mike Bell
  2. Why would such high ranking officials bother to get involved in such a trivial incident? Are they after Big Joke's job?
  3. 1st; stop broiling chickens on every corner in 35 degrees of heat after marinating in Carbon Mon-oxide for three hours. 2nd; stop public bonfires burning rubbish including all Wats. 3rd; make it a criminal offence to leave your car engine running for half an hour whilst stopping for noodles. 4th; ban ALL speaker vans touring every town deliberately holding up traffic. This includes all political outpourings.
  4. Many Thais don't work even when they are not on holiday.
  5. It used to be crooked dealings by bent coppers were running at two cases a week; now, it seems 2 MPs a week are being found to be guilty of corruption. 'Serious Breach of Ethics?' There are no Ethics in a ANY walk of Thai society.
  6. Last year I started a thread entitled something like 'UK Tax Scam'. All of those above claiming the State pension is tax free are WRONG. The sum (92UKP per week in my case) is added to your other income & you are taxed accordingly. My beef was, the tax people assumed I was on a FULL pension (roughly 10K) when, (because of my age) it was half that! (DWP insist they provided the correct figure.) Eventually I received over 7K in overpaid TAXES. (They could only refund me for 7 of the 15 years I had been overtaxed.)
  7. When this was 1st raised, the BP published his assets of 5 million a year banked for FIVE consecutive years despite earning less than ONE million per annum for his 'official' duties.
  8. After Songkran, it's Bonanza time on Soi 6.
  9. The toilets are for foreigners only; Thais will continue to use the grass verges at the side of every road.
  10. I'm gonna move; this is the THIRD time (ever) that Plod has been seen on Khao Noi!
  11. three weeks of water wastage during Songkran.
  12. The raids usually take place just before payday so the employer saves on wages. An (anonymous) phone call is all it takes.

  15. A Boys' Club to which the hoi poloi are not invited. What a farce & typically Thai.

  19. Well Saturday traffic was snarled up beyond belief.
  20. 500 metres from my house. I take it there were no police about at that time and on a day with a 'y' in its name.

  23. Thailand's standing is distorted by having lots of its wealth in the hands of a dozen wealthy families + lots of Generals; whilst a huge proportion of the populace have next to nothing.
  24. I answered a question asked by a polite member of this forum about the number of pension freezing nations (by Googling). Could you explain the differences between apples and oranges?
  25. Will the police show their faces again?
