Bitcoin price rises past $50,000 as rebound continues
ukrules replied to snoop1130's topic in Cryptocurrency News
I reckon that crypto and non crypto payment systems will both continue to be used and work alongside each other for longer than any of us will be alive. I am not so sure about the gold as a hedge option though - that's going to change much quicker, in just a few short years (<10) I think. I'm not saying that crypto will replace gold here at all, just that crypto will become a lot more commonly used than it is now. Change takes decades. -

Sure but it's nothing to do with fat, it's about the carbs. -

You're the one who talks of crypto never replacing all banking systems. I haven't seen anyone disagree with this point at all and nobody suggested that everything will be replaced by crypto, that's a very rare view held by a few extremists, the likes of which we are never likely to come across on a forum like this. If you want to find such people to debate with I suggest you head over to bitcointalk - that's where they hang out. Who exactly are you debating with here? The people on this forum appear to be casual crypto holders, not 'maximalists'. -

If you think that fatty food makes people fat then you're in for a bit of a shock if you ever figure it out. -

Me too, my BP always reads about 120/80 so it's never high, in fact this is the optimal range for Blood Pressure but if I stopped taking certain drugs daily I know it would rise far higher than this. So I do have 'high blood pressure' but it's never actually higher than the optimal range. -

Do they take treated high blood pressure into account? Is someone who doesn't actually have high blood pressure because they're treating it still at increased risk? -
COVID-19: Thailand reports 20,059 recoveries and 17,165 coronavirus cases

It's only a matter of time, all of South East Asia is the perfect breeding ground for the next generation of variants, the genetic children of Delta. It's going to be interesting to see how it turns out over the rest of the year and into early 2022. Variants don't need to be worse than what came before.... -
Hilarious, they're going to see 500k new infections regardless of whether the country reopens or not. It's just a matter of how long it takes to get to that number. People will only come if things are opened up, they might as well not bother if there's still lockdowns in place. Nothing will stop the rising infection numbers.

If you encourage and allow people to come on holiday then don't be surprised when they do holiday related things and simply don't care about the rules. Complete compliance will only happen with zero tourists. Arresting the tourists is not a good look, it will be remembered and used maliciously against Thailand by the 'perpetually annoyed' on the internet forever.

Interesting, I wonder, is there any difference in outcome for those who don't actually have high blood pressure due to successfully treating it as opposed to someone who has say, stage 2 hypertension which remains completely untreated as they don't bother taking measures to fix it? There's a world of difference between someone with a BP of 120/80 who takes a couple of ACE inhibitors and perhaps a beta blocker or two each day to maintain that and someone who has a BP of 150/100 all the time. I did read that the actual blood pressure as measured itself is the important factor so it will be interesting to find out if medications make a big difference to COVID outcome. There are also some very interesting things that have been noticed and spurred additional research since the start of this pandemic, specifically in people who take 'ACE inhibitors' or 'fibrates' for their cholesterol, specifically fenofibrate - a small study came out yesterday and was reported in Israel regarding Fenofibrate and how it can alter the trajectory of a serious (hospital case) COVID infection. -

I think the people who believe everything will be replaced by crypto are a very small minority on the fringes of the Bitcoin / crypto community. They're a little nuts and there aren't that many of them really but they are quite vocal. I've long said that this Bitcoin thing is something that can be a useful addition to existing systems and would liken it to a kind of digital gold, even when it was pretty much worthless around $10 each, maybe digital silver would be more appropriate back in those days. These crypto coins are useful and convenient at any value, even 1 cent each, they're quite convenient and very easy to use which is why they will always be around but I agree they're not going to replace anything. -

We'll see about that in due course, everything fails eventually, everything - including whatever you have all your money in - nothing is forever. -

Lockdown set to be relaxed next week: DDC
ukrules replied to Jonathan Fairfield's topic in Thailand News
Deaths from Delta are greatly reduced everywhere, the problem with looking at the UK or European data is that there are very large numbers of vaccinated people there. In India and Thailand the number of people who are or were vaccinated when Delta hit was very low, that's the difference that makes the difference here.... -

It's not going away, any reduction in measures will be met with a proportional increase in infections. But it's almost like they're beginning to realise that something's changed since last year - this is not the same scenario that happened in Europe in 2020. There's nowhere near as many deaths here when you compare them to detected infections. There's been a million detected infections in Thailand with 9562 deaths. In the UK when they reached 1 million detected infections (October 31, 2020) there had been 46,645 deaths In Italy at 1 million infections (November 11, 2020) there had been 42,953 deaths. That's quite a difference, likely many contributing factors to this, especially population age and of course it's not the same virus that it was a year ago...it's mutated multiple times since then so I guess it's kind of hard to compare as it's not comparing like with like.- 278 replies

Leading Thai doctor says the Covid stats can't be trusted
ukrules replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The death rate for 'Delta' is unknown among an immunologically naive (not vaccinated or previously infected) population. I have a feeling that when it is known in the future as we look back (the only real way to know) we're in for some surprises. Based on what I've been reading this delta variant really does spread like wildfire, much quicker than can be accurately measured by most countries.
