The view is that you are resident from the day you return if you have the intention of staying so you should then renew you licence or change your address if needed. the 185 days (I quoted the information in this thread) is the point at which you become resident if you are backwards and forwards to the U.K. ‘You’re normally a resident if you live in Great Britain for 185 days in each calendar year.’ The confusion arises with the different definitions of residency between HMRC for tax the DVLA for licenses and other body’s opinions. It is really sad that someone who has claimed to have been a magistrate should be so ignorant of the law. As you say the chances of getting found out a vanishingly small if you aren’t involved in an accident with serious money involved or involved with the police where they need to confirm you actual address. Thousands are illegally claiming U.K. residency for the DVLA without any problem. Note if you are not resident in the U.K. you commit an offence by not informing the DVLA. if you do not inform the DVLA your license is no longer valid. The U.K. license requires you to notify the DVLA of any changes that affect your right to hold the licence. The fact that your license doesn’t expire with time until age 70 does not trump the requirements.

For someone who claims to have once been a magistrate in the U.K. you are certainly mistaken and misinformed Not being a Thai resident (The Thai tax office has a rather different opinion, but it doesn’t matter) does not provide proof of residence in any other country. You can in fact be non resident in all countries. You may have a U.K. address (I have a couple) however it is extremely unlikely that you are a resident of Great Britain, as a resident of Great Britain, you will be paying Council Tax, along with paying U.K. tax on your Thai income as a U.K. resident. see HMRC Guidance note for residence under So are you stating that you pay council tax and U.K. income tax as a resident of the U.K.? So your “valid” U.K. address is actually a valid home address for DVLA purposes? I certainly do not and my “valid” U.K. (I own the properties) address is not a valid home address for DVLA purposes. I also have been non-resident and not ordinarily resident in the U.K. for somewhat over 30 years so my non U.K. income is not taxable in the U.K. it is almost certainly not taxable in Thailand as I don’t get income remittances in the year they are earned and do not earn in Thailand.

Since it was issued in 1980 it is still technically valid. it is certainly as invalid as your license No there are no problems using it to hire a car. Faulty information for both the U.K. and Thailand. For the U.K. it is 1 year for Thailand there are 2 steps 1 year no test 1~3 years written test over 3 start again. do you really imagine that the police can not do their jobs? One of the prime jobs of the police is checking addresses. Now it is quite likely that if there is no serious need to check that it maybe such a low priority that they don’t spend the time , but they absolutely have the ability.

Unless you have extreme power requirements you do not need 2.5mm or even 1.5mm cable, you can certainly use it but it isn’t required. You are extremely unlikely to find 5 conductors in a cable. If you can the chance that 1 is not yellow/green is even more remote. However you can always buy a sleeve to hide the colours if you find a 5 core cable Don't forget TIT so the electricity can use any colour without getting confused ???? the people, not so much. 5555

I have never claim to be superior. I write on subjects where I have knowledge. Your perception of my writing is yours. I certainly have no control over it. You do have one influence on me so “Plonk” -
Mostly, but not completely correct. My “valid if I have a U.K. residence address” green license is valid until 70 years old. There is no requirement to change to a photo “valid for 10 years” license. The ‘you need a U.K. address’ is incorrect you have “to be a resident of Great Britain” if you are no a resident you commit an offence. Will your offence be discovered? Thousands of people have not been. Is it legal? No
-
You committed an offence as you are required to notify the DVLA of your address change and You can’t use your U.K. license because it is invalid because you must have a U.K. address and you haven’t got one. Can you ‘not change your address’? Of course. is it legal? Of course not. will you be found out? Don’t interact with the police and no. Interact with the police and be really careful and probably not FWIW I have had an invalid license since 1990. I have had current licenses from other countries since then. So I was legally entitled to drive in the U.K. on the foreign licensees. I did not inform the DVLA so committed an offence. If I had been stoped by the police I would have shown my foreign license and been legally correct but the police would have reported me to the DVLA for not changing my address

It doesn’t expire through age until 70. No it is not The law has not changed It did because You must No address no valid license However the reporting of the address change is a requirement for you, nobody will check unless you have an interaction with the police and spill the beans. never spill the beans, never have an accident, the fact that your license is no longer valid will not be discovered.

The real information is that if you use your U.K. license in Thailand after 90 days you will not have insurance (that is you probably still have the statutory insurance, it’s not enough for most people). It is a requirement of every insurance policy that I have got translated that after 90 days for your policy to be valid you must have a Thai license. will the Police check that you haven’t been here longer than 90 days? Almost certainly not. Note the almost Will the insurance company check? Usually no, for minor bumps. Probably yes if they are on the hook for millions. If the insurance company voids your policy then you are going to have a really really bad expensive time and if you can’t pay then you may find that your new accommodation is in the “Bangkok Hilton” with 20 to 40 companions in your room, while I’ve never visited there I have visited someone who was an involuntary guest in a different branch and it is a place to avoid at all costs if at all possible. You decide if it is worth the gamble.

You have faulty information. You are required to notify the DVLA of a change of address You can not change your address to a non U.K. address So your U.K. driving licence is no longer valid as a U.K. address is an absolute requirement. It doesn’t matter how long the expiration is on the licence is because it is only valid if you fulfil the requirements for the licence qed no U.K. address no valid license. Are the police going to check? No unless you commit a serious offence. Is anyone else going to check? No because it is a condition of the license that you inform the DVLA of any changes. You commit an offence if you don’t notify. Who is telling you that you must use a U.K. license? Certainly not the rental companies, Sixt actually prefers my Thai license to my U.K. (non valid, I’m a naughty boy) license.

That shows that you really don’t understand the difference dynamics of riding, gyroscopic stability helps very considerably at low speeds probably from about 5kph and up, so city speeds? Absolutely.

The 45 degree bends are not very important for pumped water neither is using 32mm pipe. The importance of the large supply pipe and shallow bends come into play when the power is cut, Then you will find out exactly the benefits and why it’s a really good idea. don’t forget these without them you have a difficult job DAMHIKT

The IDP only backs up the license so you still don’t have a valid M/C license

I have also passed every test I’ve taken first time. FWIW I’m convinced (and many friends agree) that the Japanese big bike test is specifically designed to stop you from passing it. you must use the test center bikes, before you even get to ride, taking them off the centre stand is very difficult lifting a fallen 400cc fully laden bike is no picnic, doing the slalom is second gear throttle control only, the cattle grid is no brakes, clutch and throttle control only. The bikes have indicator lights that show the examiner clutch, throttle and brake use. While taking my test there were candidates who were on their 19th test, one girl failed 5 times to get the bike off the center stand so had to leave for the day this gives a good part of the test
