You don’t need the tape if you have some Daikin units as they can switch the lights off. -
Thinking of going for Apple for the first time..
sometimewoodworker replied to brewsterbudgen's topic in Apple Products
It dependeds on the Mac you have when your windows computer finally gets too long in the tooth. My situation is that I have a 2015 iMac so it is still capable but rather slow for the job. At the time, or preferably when the current windows computer is letting you know it’s getting too old. You can do both the DHL and Thai tax forms in windows but you can run them on your Mac. My software of choice for this, though they like you to keep paying for updates, is Parallels so to run windows on a Mac you can use this. https://www.parallels.com/uk/products/desktop/ For me my complete install of windows needs 1 file that varies between 22 and 40Gb so all I need to do to back up windows is to copy that file. I have stripped windows of all the junk files an only use the update program and the one program I need. The Mac can run windows, windows computers cannot run Mac OS -

That is an interesting idea, fallacious, but interesting. What is your definition of professional? If you are taking of video editing the time is likely to be much shorter as the newer machines will pay for them selves in 2 to 3 years. That is one profession where I have worked in support so I have some knowledge. Other professions will retain the machines for much longer, I’ve known business with the majority being 10 year old machines. All the data I have is with Macs. However there are significantly older machines in the windows world where windows 7 has an extended support date to 2023 for specific volume licensing programs. -

You may be able to avoid using a windows computer, even for that job. I have one program that is only available for windows however I run it in Parallels so I don’t have the problems inherent in running a pure windows computer. For that use backing up is a simple job of making a duplicate of 1 file. -

The (Apple) App Store is the only source for the vast majority of users to get the overwhelming number of apps, so from that point of view you are correct. There are corporate ways for an employee to get apps that are restricted to those employees that are not available to general users, there are also educational IT programs that have apps available in a similar way. there are about 2.1 million apps that are available on the App Store the overwhelming majority are available to any iPhone, the Play Store does have a greater number (3.2 million) but Android covers 1300 brands, meaning that any one brand has a smaller number of apps available than Apple These are purely statistical comparisons, if you need a specific app that is only available on your platform, then that makes your choice simple. -

That is your theory. However that is not true, apart from the point that Apple does not make low quality cheap phones. iPhones can certainly do a lot of things that that Android phones can not. The software under iOS, Photos, FaceTime, Contacts, Home, Reminders, Find My, Shortcuts, GarageBand, iMovie, Keynote, Numbers, Pages. iCloud 7 years of system updates can not run on Android to mention just a few, all of those are either unique to Apple or sync with other Apple devices. Certainly Android has some of these and some of the Android versions maybe quite capable however the integration of the ecosystem with other devices does not exist and seamlessly integration with different Apple products doesn’t exist. if you only look at an Android phone and an Apple phone in isolation the Apple advantage is less clear, but it is still there if you only use a small subset of the available software and have no other tech again the advantages becomes less obvious. So on a ROI basis Apple is the winner -
International driving License (Pattaya area)
sometimewoodworker replied to banglay's topic in Pattaya
The problem with that page is that it strongly suggests that you can get an IDP if you hold a 2 year license. That is wrong. You must hold a 5 year license to qualify to get an IDP. -
International driving License (Pattaya area)
sometimewoodworker replied to banglay's topic in Pattaya
There are a lot of websites that will print up a thing called an International driving license the problem is that they are all fakes so you will pay for your International driving license then if stopped for a license check get a fine, as a minimum, because you don’t have a valid license. Don’t get confused by the wording on the DLT website they provide IDPs not IDLs However a majority of countries don’t require an International Driving Permit if your license has English on it, the Thai licenses do. I have driven in local countries and the U.K. with my Thai license without an IDP. -

Virtually everything you posted was spot on apart from that statement, most Macs get OS updates for about 7 years or in the region of 7~8 versions and apple has provided security updates for older versions of the OS with reasonable regularity when serious vulnerabilities have been identified. FWIW Your iMac had 8 years of updates spanning 7 OS versions -
It’s actually about 800 Baht for both licenses to renew a 5 year
-
Incorrect information from someone who doesn’t know if the license is over 1 year expired but under 3 years the added requirement is 1 IN CASE OF DRIVING LICENCE EXPIRED MORE THAN 1 YEAR - TAKE A THEORY TEST you will then get a 5 year license

It is also likely that PayPal U.K. will have identity requirements that cannot be met by someone not resident in the U.K. so just having a U.K. address, phone number and credit/debit card are unlikely to allow use of a U.K. PayPal account. I haven’t bothered to check as I don’t make enough use of PayPal to go through the hoops.

Bank account for Visa
sometimewoodworker replied to mirage's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Get a Thai business person to accompany him to the bank they use. That will be of immense help. Failing that go to every branch of every bank making clear that the want to make a large opening deposit. Note that they will need 2 accounts both with large deposits for the extension of stay. -
No problem. (As long as USA immigration allows her to exit she can fly with an expired Thai passport as long as it is a direct flight to Thailand.) So using a soon to expire passport poses no problem. The airline is concerned that she will be admitted to Thailand only, they don’t care about the return flight until she checks in for the flight. The information about the requirements for validity are completely irrelevant for a Thai with a Thai passport travelling to Thailand

Drinking Water Filter System Recommendations?
sometimewoodworker replied to waters's topic in DIY Forum
Is that surprising to you? I would expect a similar result, given that the mineral water is actually mineral water. Going by my physics and chemistry education during dive training along with 4 to 5 dives a day for weeks on end you really don’t want to be drinking the non mineralised water unless you are adding electrolytes or drinking it with a meal. The problem with drinking pure water is that it dilutes the blood salt’s levels so causing the body to eliminate water to remedy the balance. So unless you are drinking it with a meal that will allow for needed salts, along with a banana or 2, drinking demineralised water will dehydrate you. So in the tropics drink mineral water or add electrolytes to your RO water. -

Did you actually bother to read the post. of course red bricks are cheap, though the amount of mortar makes them rather less cheap than most people think, they are also rather less than good for holding fasteners they are however horrendously expensive for insulation, fire retarding and sound reduction. the common usage means little more than “it’s been done that way so we will repeat the methods of the past”

That is a new adjective for the Apple trade in program. It is likely that even a small effort would double the Apple trade in price. The only thing going for the Apple program is that it is undeniably convenient. -
It is hardly confusing unless you have a meaning of confusing that is idiosyncratic and possibly unique. Red brick 505 Baht per sqm - r value 1 [old price] (NB old and new prices of red brick are similar) AAC 7.5cm 87 Baht per sqm - r value 1 Maybe you have some new math where a cost of 8 times higher does not equate to a horrendously expensive material to use. Or where a wall built with one that has an insulation value of 0.4 (red brick) and the other that is over 8 times better at 3.25 is remotely confusing.
