  1. The R value for a 7.5cm thick AAC block is 3.25, the grey block has an R value of only 1. Red brick has an R value of 0.4 to re-quote a posting where I had calculated costs for an insulation value of 1 I did some calculations on price per sqm for each block including materials and labour: [note the old date is 2012] We have an insulated wall cost AAC 7.5cm 87 Baht per sm - r value 1[b](best value for a single wall)[/b] AAC 20cm 84 Baht per sm - r value 1 [old price] Red brick 505 Baht per sm - r value 1 [old price] Cinder block 179 Baht per sm - r value 1 [old price] Double cinder block, with insulation 42 Baht per sm - r value 1 [old price] [b] (best value for a double wall)[/b] So if heat insulation is your only goal then the double cinder block wall with added insulation is the best value for money. However if you want to attach items to the walls then cinder blocks and red brick are a very poor choice AAC is clearly the winner. The prices would need to be updated for changes to material and labour costs, along with a more formal testing regimen. red brick is a horrendously expensive material to use if you want a cool Thai house
  2. Just FWIW This is an example of the size and views the windows make possible. and you maybe able to make out details if the glass supplier, the phone numbers are clear.
  3. There are no driving or written tests, there are a few short simple tests. As mentioned you need one set of original documents with a second set of copies for your second license if you have all the documents needed and arrive at the best time then not over 2 hours
  4. The manufacturers of quality glass are almost certainly in the Bangkok area they probably do not deal directly with the public. Glass supply shops will be able to order the quality you want and are likely to have catalogs. Window and door suppliers will have a glass manufacturer, possibly a couple, they use. If you are getting custom sized doors and windows the supplier will order the glass to fit. The price you pay will decide the frames that are available. A point of reference is that our doors and windows were between 1/5 and 1/6 of the total cost of our build. These costs were strongly influenced by the fact that the windows, doors and glass are as close to thief proof as we could reasonably specify, along with the large numbers and sizes for our build. FWIW I feel that the price we paid has been justified by the quality, heat insulation, and sound insulation we received. We would make the same choice again. You can certainly have much lower costs by buying standard sized windows that have normal double glazing and building to those sizes, though to have similar security to the standard we have, those windows and doors would need security bars. We decided the extra cost of windows to avoid monkey bars was justified.
  5. It is certainly easier to get an agent to go to BKK airport from Pattaya on your behalf for the small amount of 1,000 Baht. However the warning that was given by the agent goes against the experience of every one who has gone in person. Was the warning correct or was it self serving? Most would say self serving But For the amount charged it makes little difference as it was almost certainly less trouble.
  6. A genuine mistake will be easily corrected (FOC if noticed and at the issuing office). Is this a mistake? Or is it policy? If policy will it be changed?
  7. You should really read the post that was quoted. it is your opinion that ‘extension should start from expiry of current permit’ It is the opinion of some immigration offices (I gave an example) that the 60 day extension starts on the date of application. It is likely that the offices that hold that opinion are using the same basis as the marriage/retirement change. It is certainly possible that you may be able to convince officers that your opinion is correct, it is equally possible that you may find it an exercise In futility. I suspect that I know which scenario is more likely.
  8. No it isn’t and that is where some of the problems arise, though it maybe that you need a thicker glass to have all the possible options. A low-e glass of which there are a number l Single silver low-e glass l Double silver low-e glass l Triple silver low-e glass l Low-e-Sun layer glass l Post-temperable single silver low-e glass l Post-temperable double silver low-e glass l Post-temperable triple silver low-e glass are difficult to recognise compared to one of the simple tinted ones. These are from just one supplier. The submit of IGUs (double glassed or triple glassed) is rather more complex as the difference in sound transmission using glazing of the same thickness compared to different thickness is significant. So windows or glassed doors give excellent opportunities for seeming to have one, more expensive, option while getting a cheaper substitute The subject of glass substitution, though a mistaken order rather than deliberate poor quality supply, is one I know from personal experience.
  9. No, most likely, but too much water added and badly managed pouring so dry joints are possible/likely. That depends on who orders and controls the material, but lower quality glass, non low-e, not toughened etc is possible and hard or very difficult to check. Doors sourced from a maker who doesn’t use correctly seasoned wood or doesn’t store it correctly, very difficult to check as who has the expertise to do so. If it gets painted it can get bodged 5 spot adhesive not full tile. Paint, thinned too much A large percentage are labour but as above, sneaked in material can be significant. But is it mostly labour? Or is it supervision that is at fault? Most likely both. The takeaway from this is that there are few builders who have the expertise to oversee a really perfect build and the builders to keep it to the highest standard. They certainly exist and you can get lucky to get one who is in the correct stage of his career to give you a really good job. It is all about luck. It is certainly possible that there are builders who are professionals and are continuing to build high quality. The way the society is structured makes the existence of this unlikely as the excellent builder will not be able to maintain excellent skilled workers as the excellent skilled workers can make more money going independent. The ultimate takeaway is if you know exactly how a build should be done, have the skill to supervise and motivate Thai/Burmese workers can get a quality builder, and can be on site 24/7/365 you can get a house with the minimum of defects
  10. Those are exactly the ones under consideration. There is often no way to actually know the difference unless you are actually there. Some on some occasions they do. Yes to high end, no to highest end. in Thailand there are always exceptions, Thai’s are as quick to ensure that the prices they are paying equal the quality they expect. Thai builders are as quick to ensure that the workers expected to be on the job are there and will substitute less expensive, less skilled if they have a need and can get away with it. I haven’t observed a really high end property being built so for that I am speculating that similar practices occur, it is certainly possible that there are unicorns in Thai building.
  11. That can be 100% true but it can also be almost 100% incorrect. There are high priced homes that are built with very little attention to detail, using the part time farmers as labour so generating enormous profits for the builder. There are equally high priced homes (the 20 million is not so high) where you have a conscientious builder paying quality subcontractors where attention to detail is paramount
  12. Impossible to give advice without any knowledge of what you define as good or things you enjoy. Best advice, take an apartments for a month, one week at a time and explore. Do the same for Udon. My guess is that one of those will suggest itself as a place to stay longer. You may find that Udon has a wider verity of non-Thai residents, if this is good or not is your call.
  13. It is not at all clear that it is a mistake. Certainly some offices have a policy of making the 60 day extension apply from the date of application, they do not add the time on to the current extension. So if you do go to immigration you have a chance that the date will be changed. In my opinion, and it is just an opinion, you will be told that no mistake has been made, that the application for a 60 day extension cancelled your previous extension of stay so the date is correct. The reason for my guess is that when you change the reason for an extension of stay from retirement to marriage or vice versa you forfeit the remaining time on your extension so the same rule is being applied hear. I was considering doing the same extension last year but when I asked to be sure when the extension would start from I was told ‘the day I applied” this was Udon office So regrettably you didn’t ask and assumed/expected, so now you know.
  14. I assume that the maximum IOs is 15.7 for the SE version 1. I am making this assumption as currently the version of MacTracker shows “Latest release of iOS” since it takes a moderate amount of time for it to be updated. As the SE was first released in “March 2016 (16, 64 GB) March 2017 (32, 128 GB)” it has had a life of between 6 1/2 7 ½ a
  15. Anecdotal information can be useful it may be bunk. The points about using double walls is just focused on heat. Of equal importance is sound. We have a close to silent house in normal conditions, that it helped by room fans that are equally quiet and a bedroom AC that though not as quiet as I would like is only just audible. foil insulation fan be good in the correct roof locations
  16. You really have no in-depth knowledge of insurance worldwide. Having driven for years in 3 different countries with insurance I know you are giving miss information. For 1 example in the U.K. a driver may be insured to drive many cars but only for specific uses. So when driving he is insured for that vehicle, if someone else drives it they are not insured. So the driver is insured to drive. The vehicle is not insured. The U.K. may be unusual and the rules surrounding vehicle insurance are certainly complex and there are many types of insurance.
  17. Having ridden motorcycles for the last 50 years in many countries the “quiet track” would not class as easy or safe. If it’s seldom used; it will have sand on the surface in places. It will not be maintained often so will have potholes. It is likely to either have no concrete/tarmac surface in places. Thai rental motorcycles have narrow tyres, no motorcycle has good breaking or steering in sand. A small wheel scooter is more difficult to master than a regular motorcycle I do not recommend the journey to and visiting a Thai hospital as part of a holiday you will ever want to repeat. The Thai motorcycle test will not teach you safe riding. Virtually no holiday insurance will cover you for motorcycle accidents with a license, none without.
  18. There is a gentleman in Udon Thani who has a current Non-O multiple entry visa issued from London about 5 months ago he applied using the online form an was able to select the option for multiple entry. So while the U.K. website doesn’t list it as an option it is certainly available for some Non-O visa classes. If you want more information I can give you his username on Udonmap, he may well reply.
  19. The iPhone SE was first introduced 2016 it can run an iOS version that is completely compatible with the current version of Line. So if you want you can use it for that. As it is an iPhone it will be supported by apple, on average, for twice the lifespan of an equivalent Android phone. While the tech maybe a little daunting and it’s getting slower it will still run virtually every app available.
  20. Also check \private\var\vm for the number and size of the swap files, if you have more than 1, restart the Mac It is not unknown for a process to spawn multiple gigs of swap slowing things to a geriatric snails pace
  21. My math teachers would say about 1.6 kW per day so 130 kW less ????
  22. Some people have heating available in their AC systems, as we do, so that is an option
  23. Comment from a cousin of a herbivorous sauropod who seems to be lexically and developmentally challenged desperately trying to invalidate IEC/EN test data to prove that a completely false interpretation of facts is somehow relevant, while others can (read &) follow manufactures spec sheets..
  24. You mean that you haven’t found the setting. Check that your country is Thailand in the settings. It is certainly possible that the settings of your phone can effect the app.
