French and German tourists turn their back on Brexit Britain
JonnyF replied to Scott's topic in World News
Of course it's down, you may not have noticed that there has been a drop in tourism worldwide post Covid/war in Ukraine Show me a link that less tourism to the UK is down to Brexit, and not the cost of living crisis engulfing so much of Europe. Less tourists are coming to Thailand as well. The whole world in fact. Is that down to Brexit and the need for a passport? Or is it because people are more concerned about heating their homes than taking holidays? I can see the Guardian headlines now - "Chinese tourism to Thailand decimated by Brexit". ???? It's laughable that you ignore the knockon effects of Covid lockdowns and the War in Ukraine and blame absolutely everything on Brexit. Below are graphs for tourism worldwide and tourism to the UK? See any similarities after 2019? Damn that Brexit for ruining global tourism post 2019, so inconsiderate of Brexiteers to affect the whole world's tourist industry at the exact same time as Covid struck. ???? https://www.statista.com/statistics/209334/total-number-of-international-tourist-arrivals/ -
French and German tourists turn their back on Brexit Britain
JonnyF replied to Scott's topic in World News
It seems the Brits on here couldn't care less whether they come. It's only our left wing American posters who seem so upset about the French and Germans not coming to Britain. A curious phenomenon if ever I saw one. Maybe they could visit the states instead, that 10 hour flight is so much easier than 5 minutes showing a passport to UK immigration. Those US immigration officials are so friendly after all. Of course, they'd still have to wait 6 months for the French to give them a passport unless the US chooses to join the Schengen area. Somehow, I don't see the American voters going for that although they are convinced the British should. -

French inefficiency at issuing passports to their citizens is not the UK's problem. Maybe if they weren't all rioting over pensions it wouldn't take so long? If they are only staying 2 nights it's no great loss. They can go to Estonia if it's so difficult to produce a passport. -

Port? I normally go to the airport to catch my flights. I don't go anywhere near a port. Who gets a ferry to the UK from Germany? If our French friends have to save money by getting here on a ferry, they are probably not high value tourists anyway. Or possibly the type of "tourists" who never leave, in which case the fact they are put off coming is probably another benefit of Brexit. -

Yes I'm well aware of that, thanks for pointing it out though ????. Given the planning, expense and travel time that goes into the average holiday, a 5 minute 'obstacle' to show a passport isn't really a big deal. If that's enough to put you off travelling somewhere then you weren't that serious about going. Just more bleating from those who are bitter at losing the 2016 vote . -
Climate Science Shock: Methane’s Unexpected Cooling Impact Unveiled

I'm sure you are aware of the concept of the 15 minute city. Just as you are aware of "Green taxes". It's always amusing when someone who subscribes to the ideology of a Doomsday cult labels others as conspiracy trolls ????. I guess posts like yours are inevitable when sandwich boards are replaced by laptops. -

Oh dear, I wonder how they will spin this to tax us more and keep us within 15 minutes of our home/place of work? -

Maybe the Germans can go to Paris instead? Lovely this time of year. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11946855/Riot-police-battle-thousands-protestors-Paris-streets-French-pension-reform-plans.html Seriously though, if you are put off travelling to a country because you have to show your passport to gain entry, you should probably stay at home. Presumably they are put off every country outside the EU? Or is this just another Brexit bashing article by The Guardian?- 109 replies

Joe Biden administration blames chaotic Afghan pull-out on Trump

Given what's happening in Afghanistan right now, it could hardly be worse. -

True. But unfortunately for you (and the people of Afghanistan), Biden was in charge at the time the troops withdrew. -

JonnyF replied to Social Media's topic in World News
It's never his fault, is it? ???? Biden mis-managed the withdrawal. He was in charge at the time it was undertaken. Huge mistakes were made in the way it was handled. It was a complete shambles. He should own it.- 164 replies

Withdrawing was inevitable. They couldn't stay there forever. It was the the manner/handling of the withdrawal that was such a complete disaster. Leaving weapons, people behind etc. Joe should own it, not shout "he started it" like a child in the playground.- 164 replies

Whataboutism. You're kidding yourself. The people of Scotland don't want it as shown in the referendum of 2014 as well as in recent polls taken last month. https://news.sky.com/story/snp-leadership-scottish-independence-support-at-just-39-poll-says-12832783 Your "vehicle" has broken down, it's been shown to be completely unroadworthy and the driver can't read a map. It's on the road to nowhere and will end up in a drainage ditch.

The Official Manchester United Thread
JonnyF replied to Jonathan Fairfield's topic in Football forum
In fairness to Chelsea they didn't wait 2 and a half years to get rid of him, like Utd did with Solskjaer. I guess that's why they haven't been waiting 11 years for a league title or 15 years for a Champions League title. But hey, the Carabao Cup is still really good. Kind of like a medal for "taking part" ????. -

Nah. United's implosion was down to very poor choice of managers. Ten Hag seems more promising. You might even finish ahead of Brighton if you pull your finger out. Top 4 and the Carabao cup, that's a great season for Utd these days. -

Terrible against Newcastle. Could have been 5 or 6. Should be an interesting run in to see who gets top 4. I thought United were pretty much guaranteed a top 4 spot a few weeks ago but it looks like it could be close after 1 point from a possible 9. I say United still get third or fourth, which given their current status as a cup team, would be a good season given their Carabao cup success. A bit fortunate that Liverpool and Chelsea self destructed though. -
Oscar Pistorius denied parole for killing his partner
JonnyF replied to webfact's topic in World News
Good. 7 years served for shooting someone to death is a woeful sentence. Until he admits to deliberately shooting her he should remain behind bars. The "imagined burglar in the en-suite" excuse doesn't wash, he should admit what he did and apologize to the family. -
Andrew Tate and brother speak after release from custody
JonnyF replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Ah. The old "no smoke without fire" line. They wouldn't have locked him up for 3 months if they didn't have something on him, right ? I think Tate is an idiot but this is a hatchet job, pure and simple. Let them present their evidence. If they had anything it would have been leaked to the left wing press by now. But we hear nothing except rumours. His fan base will grow exponentially unfortunately.
