  1. you said people who sit in farang bars are sad and boring and now you say theyre insecure.

like you said it's normal to criticize others, who don't want to do the same - it's akin to jealousy.

Yep, I see people sitting in farang bars, slouched on the bar and gazing through glazed eyes at the bottles on the shelf.................I'm reeeeally jealous. wink.gif

so youre looking for happy hour in thai bars only or do you want happy hour in farang bars too, so you can sit there feeling sorry for the jealous sad boring insecure slouching customers and the miserable owners?

  2. Winnie, I didn't say fluent in Thai, I said converse, which could mean a few simple sentences or greetings.

I understand people going to the popular pricey bars night after night, as they are probably continuing where they left off back home i.e. "down the pub getting drunk with my mates" and they feel safe. For this safety and their insecurity, they are happy to pay whatever the pubs ask and of course when you are always paying above the odds it's normal to criticize others, who don't want to do the same - it's akin to jealousy. wink.gif

  3. I don't know any classes like that, but if you try watercolour it doesn't take much financial outlay or material. I carry my stuff wherever I go.

And there's a never ending number of available models.

that looks nothing like him. it looks more like a fish to me.

  4. People drink wherever they choose and it's quite sad that a lot of farangs can't converse in Thai and therefore miss out on a lot of fun + cheap beer at Thai bars, They have to be content sitting in some hopeful farang's bar, listening to the same old boring stuff night after night, whilst paying premium prices.......good luck to them. sad.gif

as you said, quite sad. same old boring stuff. night after night. paying premium prices too!! good luck to them indeed. and god bless you for wishing them good luck.

if only they could converse in thai like what you do. they wouldnt be missing out . they could be having lots of fun. + cheap beers. at thai bars!!

people drink wherever they choose and

  5. People can afford to drink in bars but they don't need to pay over a hundred baht for one Thai beer to do it, do they? Gecko is quite a busy little venue amongst both expats and tourists, foreigners and Thais. Therein lies the key.

And to trainman, by making your tin helmet remark you then proceed to make a comment which you feel will spark people off.

Forum Rule 5) Not to post inflammatory messages on the forum, or attempt to disrupt discussions to upset its participants, or trolling.

Trolling can be defined as the act of purposefully antagonizing other people on the internet by posting controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion.

shall we tell the mods to take the rest of the day off if you're taking over?

  6. I had a Farang I met for the first time in the market this morning ask me how long I had been here. When I told him, his reply was 'Sick of it yet?'

classic! old misery guts himself. don't you just love those guys? nice one.

  7. the pizzas were fantastic but................. i've never been back..?

you should have made it clear that it wasn't and inquiry about a discount but an ultimatum.

It was no ultimatum. I'd never been a Duke's customer prior to this, this was their (missed) opportunity to win a customer. They didn't do enough to win my repeated custom. A simple 10% off the bill and I'd have been smiling and dancing in the following week. They lost.

your right, technically it wasnt an ultimatum but since he lost your business .....?

for most pplaces fantastic food would be enough to win a customer over . his business prospers because of that.

where do you go for fantastic pizzas now?

  8. Once ordered 9 pizzas from Dukes for take out, 24hrs notice, 11am pick up. Enquired about a discount but it was not available.

The pizzas were fantastic, but on an order that size before they get busy, with notice, I'd have thought they'd have been slightly more generous.

As a consequence of the lack of discount, I've never been back.

  9. I'm not a very good customer at western oriented restaurants. I can't recall EVER doing take away. I eat almost exclusively at Thai cafes and only occasionally go somewhere else when one of my ladies wants a special night on the town. If that's the case, I leave it up to her to choose the location and most often the girls choose just another Thai restaurant. When we go out as a group it's never to a place that offers take away, other than someone who hasn't finished their meal and wants to take the remainder home.

can i interrupt just to say that i've got nothing to add this topic?nice one.

  10. Its a pizza place, why go and order burgers?!

because they sell them, or maybe because its convenient. whatever his reason, if they sells burgers they should be good. he says it was disgusting. if he cant do good burgers he should take em off the menu. at least he should warn his customers - we specialise in pizza, order anything else at your own risk.

  11. A company beginning with the letter D make cheese here in CM....

really not worth buying though imho, as it has almost no

taste/flavour, even the goat cheese is unbearably bland UNLESS

you bake it on a pizza, then there is a hint of goat about it...

maybe this has to do with the milk quality here in CM?

    David

oh good we've got a new game top play, guess the cheese shop. my guess is dacheeso. whats the prize?

  12. it does seem to be okay to say 'a supermarket beginning with the letter t'. i've asked about three times is that okay, and since nobody will answer and my post still stands it must be okay. right? what we dont know is why and when the policy changed. plenty of old posts nameing and shameing.

  13. It is inappropriate for people who have never or hardly ever spent any time or money in Tuskers to go along to a farewell party for the same bar when a little bit more of their custom over the years at the many events that Chas and Rachel have gone to enormous trouble to organise (apart from the freebie TV parties that so many of you on this site are more than willing to attend) might not have led to tonight's closing party.

Another thing is that tonight is not a freebie so the parasites amongst you should stay well clear lest you have to spend some money on food or drink.

if tonight is not a freebie the more the merrier, unless you're there. are you gonna be on the door?

  14. I hope all those who have expressed their condolences over the closing of Tuskers and who have hardly ever darkened the door of the place don't come to the party tonight.

    Guaranteed to happen.......

I will not be there but even if I went once Tusker's has had the benifit of recomendations I have made to friends who do go to bars. Because of their widespread activities C & R are a part of many peoples lives in Chiangmai and not just their customers and it is not inapropriate for people who are not regulars to say goodbye to an era in CM.

nice one. not really his shout.

  15. we also save a lot because my wife won't let me keep a mia noi :)

    :D :D :D

I also heard that the Russians down here in Pattaya dont like to pay for a Short time Room, they use the Beach. Witch safes again some people money as they can now buy there drink in the next 7/11 and enjoy a free show.

having a go at the russians is okay but whatever you do dont mention israelis. thats stereotyping.
  16. What I don't understand is, why would someone want to kill such a successful franchise by cheapening and degrading it's content with all this petty bullshit. Might as well put some nudie shots on the main page to up clicks. Meanwhile some enterprising person will be thinking about how to start the next decent website relating to Thailand visitors and expats. Nice going George.

its been a bit quiet lately so maybe this is a ploy to boost numbers. george even started a topic abou the word fuc_k and went so far as bypassing the autoedit to include the 'u' , trying to drum up business. all very trivial. i think they've lost the plot. all downhill from here.

  17. I don't think it means tiddly squat. A person like that could be a clever troll who posts controversial topics, or answers, to start a busy thread and make other people think. If someone is down right nasty then they WILL get a holiday off the forum. But, if they provoke others in a clever manner then it tells more about themselves than the people who respond in kind. Everyone DOES have the option of not responding to obvious trolls or nasty comments. An excessive list of reds or greens doesn't mean a thing... other than a person is busy on the forum.

quite right. a gentleman's reputation isn't determined by the press of a button even in these enlightened times.

  18. I asked before and got no answer, so i'll try again. thai politicians avoid defamation by saying , someone with initial p, and everyone knows who he means, can we say a car rental company beginning with p or supermarket beginning with r? mau tours have plenty of mentions already on tvisa, is that not now allowed? will those post be deleted like o'malleys/red lion topic was? what is allowed now in giving a bad review of a business? the cars are a wreck, the steak was tough? not allowed if you name the place?
