  1. i think the newly enforced rules about not naming places should be explained. can you say the food was crap at a restaurant ? or a hotel was dirty? or a tour company didnt provide a ticket you paid for?

I fully understand the OP's reasons for removing the name.

I also understand your reasoning.....it seems that a certain travel agent was taken to the cleaners on TV, with a few innuendos regarding the BIB thrown in for good measure. One wonders why that wasn't sanctioned? The libel laws in Thailand are frequently quoted, but I wonder if a cockroach was found in food in a small restaurant, whether TV would really be concerned about Thai libel laws and maybe it's just naming the organisation's with more clout that bothers them?

search mau tours on tvisa loads of stuff. still allowed? i'm not sure.

  2. Also, on a few occasions when I have detected a problem, I contacted the manager who very graciously received the info and acted immediately to correct the problem. I wouldn't even know where to find the manager of rival supermarkets. I don't understand why the person who started this thread didn't notify the management of the supermarket but instead chose to publicize it to all and sundry. I am sure that, had they been notified, the management would have dealt very severely with whoever it is that manufactures this product.

publicising it became irrelevanyt when the op self-moderated the topic by removing the store name. i think i knoiw what store it was but not 100%. does it begin with r

  3. it doesn't taste that great by itself but can be sweetened or mixed with other teas etc.

It's considered to be an adaptogenic immortality herb in Chinese medicine.

I find better effects from Reishi or Ginseng tea but everybody is different and has different imbalances.

It's available in a wide range of shops in CM and not expensive.

never met any immortals, but if it works it could be popular. it'll bugger up the population balance though.

    can you smoke it?

  4. He's with the Mrs. so I guess recommendations for basket weaving and umbrella painting are in order. ;)

Personally, I'd stay in the old town area, or very near it. Not in the scammy dump that is the night bazar.

nowt wrong with the night bazaar. lovely people, most of em. tourists love it.

  5. On a side note, the reason mods edit out names of businesses that are flamed or shamed for one reason or the other, whether deserved or not....is that Thailand has some of the most onerous defamation laws anywhere. I think they got this from the English legal code.:whistling:

If someone exoriates some local business, and that business get their knickers in a twist- guess who they will sue. Not Mr. Anonymous posting from Nakhon Nowhere.

No, they will sue Thai Visa, and the mods have the thankless task of making sure none of these comments appear on our board, as they (Ministry of ICT) can shut us down in a blink if they want to.

Please try to respect the mods who do this. The censorship of these kind of comments is not our nature, and does not come from us, but is rather a natural reflection of the legal environment we are operating under.

Thank you for your understanding on this.

    B)

you could still do it thai style - local supermarket beginning with the letter r. thats how the politicians do it without getting sued. is it not possible to slag off anywhere or anyone atall now?

  6. Ry Cooder - Girls from Texas

Well, I met a girl from Texas 'bout a year ago

Hadn't known her for too long when I had to let her go

You see, she had a razor, was ten inches or so

And every night you'd hear her knocking at my door

She said, "Baby, I'll give you the clothes on my back

You can have everything that I've got in my shack

But if you ever try to leave they'll take your out in sack

'Cause me and my razor will see to that"

That's the way the girls are from Texas

That's the way the girls are from Texas

That's the way the girls are from Texas

I thought about my situation, decided not to tarry

For my own self preservation I decided we should marry

When the preacher started reading 'bout 'till death do us part

I told him, "Skip it, we had that understanding right from the start"

  7. you fraggin' people have been in thailand for too f'n long. this dude goes to a restaurant and has this happen to him and you're saying 'oh, you weren't really beat up were you?', 'why'd you leave your wife in there like that?'. i'd like to know the name of the place. go over there and take a piss in the corner of his restaurant.

he mentioined the name twice already.

We went out for a late dinner at around 10pm and, being unfamiliar with the area, found ourselves on walking street (on a Friday when it's empty) without many options but the one open Thai restauarant called "[removed]"

you've got the name and directions get in there.we we're taking the piss, but you want to go and have a piss. nice one. post a picture if you can.

  8. Ummmm... tell me again why I'd consult with tourists when I want to find a good restaurant?

tourists have been there and report about good restaurants they found so they have experience. if you can find good restaurants so can experienced travellers.

Why not ask the newly arrived farangs at the local guest house?

if youre newly arrived why ask someone else thats newly arrived?

TripAdvisor is a great service for tourists by tourists, and maybe some owners doing a little self-promotion. For restaurants it only makes sense if you don't know anything about a place.

which is why people use it...!

............ maybe fresh tourists don't even like noodle soup...

whats a fresh tourist and hiow do you know when theyve gone off?

  9. We went to dinner at the "Bon Kitchen" and we had great healthy dinner very nice place and reasonable food price.

But did they do "fish and no chips" :D

that would be healthy and reasonable price - cheap as no chips. nice one

  10. I buy second hand books from thai markets 25 baht. maybe 50 baht 80 baht depending on size. Why pay more in a farang bookstore. There are Thai restaurants that also do western food but they charge only a little over thai prices. If it works for them why can't the farang businesses do it.

    ..........................

Having said that, there are farang owners around ( not Pedr ) who feel the expat community owes them a living. They have had it too good for too long or perhaps they copy the Thai extreme of charging what the market will bear when they know they have you over a barrel. There needs to be more customer awareness.

Getting away from the emotion of this topic; think of second hand book stalls as an example. Why do expats not shop around and compare prices with Thai owned and run businesses. Expat businesses need to realise their business models particularly on pricing need adjusting. Customers need to be aware there are businesses other than farang around.

you seem to have a bee in yer bonnet about 2nd hand bookstores or is it 2nd hand bookstore owners?

  11. To all,

    Thanks for the comments.

We preparing to leave and not in 2 years but asap.

Yes, I understand you all and there is a tendency with most of you of being quiet, listen to what they say, agree with everything (also when they wrong) and even (as I understand to get some soup) pay them. Well, all those things I don't like to do and will not do. I am a human being and not a dog and have a few degrees an a pilot license. I do not like that people, whomever it is, use me as a doormat to clean their dirty shoes. If I think they are wrong, I will tell them and ask to explain. If they are wrong for sure , I need a good explanation. I have my dignity and want to keep it. I not have to say "thanks" to anyone, however, I think a lot of the posters here have to do.

Yes, I am well dressed and good prepared every time I go and yes, my wife goes with me. She comes to the point now that she want to leave asap as she is tired of this Thai behavior. I mean, they never take any responsibility and all have their own interpretation of a rule so they can escape without a sorry. They will never make a mistake in their eyes, even when there is prove. I can image that, if you accept anything and sit there like the lost buffalo and let play them the God, everything will go smooth and fine. I agree with that for 100%. I had to pay already for their mistakes (wrong stamp at arrival, cost 7.000Bath overstay). Yes, I called my Embassy already when they told me a free document would cost me 800 Baht. Their explanation was they had to contact my Embassy to get my official address. My Embassy told me this was just nonsense to get some tea money. Advice from my Embassy "not pay them". If you all accept those things..... good for them. I have my dignity and if I read your replies well; a lot of you lost that value already. Let it be so, not all people are the same.

For me, it is time to move on. Good luck to all of you.

    Nice one. Good luck.

  13. With the arrogant attitudes of some business owners, no wonder they are going down.

Two nights ago I visited the Olde Bell restaurant in the Loi Kroh road. It was 7.00pm.....

............ I asked if it is possible to chat with the boss. She replied, no, he would be down at 7.30pm. I said, I would not be here at 7.30pm.

a flying visit? order a meal, eat it, pay and be out in 30 mins.

maybe he was having a nap wheres the rush.
