If I am reading this right OP has problem with the ad hoc, maybe should just get an AP or use a switch. Seems windows can't even play with itself.

I had a PM flash on my screen but it went away can't find it. I use ToT IPstar just contect the Office, if its IPstar from other then ToT they should have like system. Just contect the provider.

If the person is long stay, may con. a Sat. link that has simple phone. Phone wise it as cheap as any cell plus you can use internet at the same time. Its not an IP/VoIP phone you connect a cheapy 99baht phone from tesco to it. and it uses the internet connection. Mine works fine. 99 baht month 1baht minute outgoing, incoming free. Internet is 256/128 speed works 24/7 never had problem. 1500 month. If you don't have phone line like me it worked out great. phone and internet billed seperate, can use any international calling program you want. Its realy just dial tone from ToT over your internet connection. If the person doesn't have or use PC then thats a diff story would be some waste with the internet, but this is what I use out in the sticks.

For a few weeks I can not send mails from my Yahoo account. When I press "compose" a page is shown with outgoing address as well as my own address. But there is no space to write on and when I push "attach" nothing happens. I am not using the Beta-version as it did not work out when I tried it.

I have tried for a few different yahoo addresses with the same bad result. Also using another computer doesn´t help.

Anyone have a solution or face similar problems?

From time to time I see something odd in yahoo when I open it, but not that bad. I would reload and it clears or if bad enough delete temp internet files and try again. I was in my yahoo a minute ago it worked fine. problem like this is 98% of the time browser. Don't know which you are using, but IE7, Oprea, Firefox should all work well with yahoo.

alot of player don't support WMA. many programs can convert them. Easy thing real player free vervion. when adding files ask that it load them as MP3 it will convert all the selected files and place them in the player. you can use it to load most any MP3 player with selected play list.

Its just a software thing with a PC google it. Karaoke and PC software. Must be 1000 many freeware. Make your own and sing along have fun.

I use the Opera 9.23 alot. with settings it can look and operate like IE but without the crashing. I like the vioce,download manager buit in and torrents built in. I also have and use the firefox, but I like the Opera enough I put it on my PClinuxOS 2007 which also never fails.

I spent a good deal of time looking at options last night. In the linux forums was a strong opinoon that we should not reward manufactures that don't show alot of support for linux and use companies that do. I guess Hp was way up there as is brother. Most felt lexmark should be doing more then build your own, and most the driver reported that did work had list of minor problems yet resolved. Most sugg. I get an Hp all in one thats supported. Take a picture of me and the printer and send it to lexmark and tell them why I got a new printer, and to be nice about it just let them know I won't need their ink.

edit as a note about brother, years ago I had an old 132 col 24pin dot matrix, ribbon type brother printer I used for speadsheets. It was the best printer I have ever had. I worked that thing to no end.

The vary act of using software to try and do something like OP wants is in fact braking the law in Thailand. Naver mind what he wants to do when he gets there. Even if it is ligel where he does it, if it not legal here and you use software to try and cheat the system censors you have broke the law twice.

I want to install in-room telephones at my 10-bed hotel. The problem is that we only have a single telephone line on the property, due to lack of cable in the road. We cannot install a second line and I do not want guests to use this single line for their outgoing calls, (blocking incoming calls etc).

So the solution would be to use VOIP. We do have a reliable ADSL service and many guests report no problems when using VOIP from their laptops (via our wifi link).

So I think what I need is a VOIP PBX unit that can support 10 extensions.

Any suggestions as to hardware? And what about the VOIP service itself? Does TOT offer some sort of VOIP service that is billed like a standard phone-bill? (I don't want to have to prepay for Skype etc).

Any suggestions gratefully received.

You can either add phone lines to an analog PBX via an ATA, or they can help you choose an appropriate IP PBX. They have several promotions with various PBX manufacturers.

You get a physical, printed bill.

yes the second picture is what I was thinking, with a low end PBX that is simple. ToT has it if you supply your own pbx or pabx I don't know all the proper icron's but its simple, or as was stated before it could be a real nice layout with more internet options for guest it has to fit there budget.

I don't know about how PC tech I am but adventure is what this linux thing is with me anyway. I had the lexmark before I got into linux so its replace will be more researched, in the mean time best is to host it from XP as linux can find and share it better. And then purhaps built a driver with lexmark tools for future use in lenux or I guess I could spring for a second printer that works with linux, some how that feels like cheeting. Thanks

I use the ToT IPstar sat. 256/128 and the download works just fine 24/7. none is going to always work in hard rain, but it has done pretty well even then. I would req. 512/256 for video conf as my upload will dip from time too time but mostly it works. I have never had any problem with connection and with download manager I have avg. near 270 on some downloads. I have read some treads where some have had on going problem, but have yet to understand why as mine has not been one of those. PS paying 1500 unlimited use 256/128, going to 512/256 in Oct. for a bit more.

Yes I see your point and its a great idea, I was just thinking along the cheap, because ten rooms did not sound like he is rolling in the cash. And the ADSL is up and running already picking a number off of it and connecting it a a cheap pbx without all the backend services would make it happen. If it fivestar and can afford it go CAT in every room and dump the ADSL for a up link with lots of bandwidth.

but that is not what he wants or needs. forget about the guest using VoIP. He only needs at least one more phone line to the hotel and can't get it but for VoIP service, once in the building its is just dail tone. a phone number. PBX wires the hotel like any other hotel. He can connect a room to outside if neceassary, but for them its is or is not VoIP its just a phone call. Guest can use their own PC to make VoIP calls on the WiFi if they want. He needs the hotel wired even if there was no VoIP involved. Each number vai internet is 1700 installed and 99baht a month 1 baht a minute outgoing. plug a cheap phone into it or plug it into the PBX its just dail tone from the phone company. edit that does not mean every room its each new number to the building do with it what you want.

After the dail tone is in the building forget about VoIP even if that is the source of the connection. It just dail tone each number 99 baht a month 1 baht minute outgoing calls. restrict service to local call and sell guest calling cards for long distant no backend billing services needed. If they want he still has wifi and they can make their own VoIP calls from their own PC. He wants the hotel wired, but that is seperate issue from phone service outside building. I understand what you are saying but in terms of the Broadband solution I am talking about using the Internet for everything - no additional PSTN lines - use an ITSP instead.

The phones aren't separate to the internet that's the whole thing - in theory he could have a wifi phone for connection to voice gateway/IAD.

A PBX isn't in the discussion here the VoIP gateway or IAD would replace the PBX and do everything that a PBX would do. You can pick up VoIP capable gateways supporting 10+ phones for not a lot of money. Like I said previously the cost of IP phones is quite high so it would be worthwile looking at devices with FXS ports which would support standard phones.

Yes this still does it. If a unit wants an outside line they get premission and with the addition of new numbers witch he currently only has one, then they get connected to other then the main number thus not blocking inbound calls. all you need in the rooms is a J11 jack and a cheap phone. let the PBX make the outside connection to one of the new numbers which has to be VoIP because he can't get more landlines from Telco and the gatewell can provide the numbers to the PBX.

Thats why you need something like wellgate its a dail tone service provided by ToT vai internet (yes) but you don't see it its transparent. Every room has dail tone to the front desk. and you can dail outside line if your unit has premission to. Its not using your internet it just connects via your modem. Its really simple and billed seperate from your internet no software no PC required. It's phone service and if your connected to thailands wired phone lines it going to work as well as anything else connected to the that mess.

You can google wellgate or welltech they have rep. in thailand and I think they have a PBX unit that can do up to 16 extention that you can program control over ie limit to in house use and has outside line via VoIP. Just connects to your LAN. If you e mail they can provide information.

edit ps yes ToT has VoIP I use it with a sigle line have whole house wired, same cost as a cell phone and billed seperate from My IPstar internet which I run it over. My line is 99 baht a month and 1 baht minute outgoing calls incoming free. All international calling plans can be used with it as well. They use the wellgate equipment, I talked to wellgate a while back and the rep was really nice gave me all kinds of info.

edit again brain not connected this morn. The VoIP connects to my IPstar and gets its own IP local from the IPstar modem and does not use my bandwidth it has its own so it does not bother the internet connection when in use. You don't want it behind your router because it will then be on your connection. It has a ported/switch built in so you can connect your PC or router to it and keep it up stream of your connection.

edit oops two problems, freepop only downloads can not send email via same account. and connector does not work with outlook express only microsoft office outlook.

both dtac and ais provide gprs, i am sure any other does as well. you can get a 1 2 call sim that has 40 to 160 hours of gprs included, and can refill at any telewiz shop. which are everywhere.

Printing from LINUX seems to be complicated by my having an LEXMARK all in one x1270.  I can install cups and with some effort it might work, but have been told by lexmark not everything will function because its onl

 the drivers that are near to it, its not well supported would seem.  Or if I have xp on the network with print sharing will it do all the driving of the printer will I be able to see the GUI of the printer and control it?.  I can't really test anything until I get my other PC replaced, but will it share printers with linux or do I need a server with printer installed over there?  I could install the printer under wine, but then when its share time again Hows the other OS/PC going to see it accross the network without running tons of software all the time.  Is there something simple that lets both run the Priinter/Scan/Copy/Fax?  It connects USB only I don't use the FAX, Copy still needs the driver, Printer is used sometimes, Scan

I know wine is a great program, but I would like to keep it off the install if I can.  I have XP to run my win stuff with.  and cups is also great but it doesn't really support my printer, so unistall if I am not running it.  The last step I guess would be to run the printer with XP and send the files for print and from scan jobs to and from the linux over network to a folder for processing on XP.  I know I may have answered my own varbose ?, but whats the simple set-up look like for something like this?

This is alot of great info.  What if ya go for less compression to save qual. and find large storage device and use PC or media center to stream it to view.??

Hotmail stopped me from using outlook a long time ago, I am suprised you we're using it.  If ever I try to set up XP warns can't use outlook with hotmail.  I don't think it will work again, but maybe with the paided hotmail service it will work?, but not the free web based stuff.
