  1. If the router is connected to the ISP's modem be it ADSL or sat or DSL should not matter, If set up is using DHCP router will give an local IP to anything when it gets connected. Mine even changes local IP if I switch OS's that I am using with the same PC. When first connecting the router it sets the gateway normal the first local IP in the range of the router. Then the NAT routing table in the router will auto provide a IP to PC and devices that connect to it by ether a cat cable to port of router or by the wireless. If you use dhcp and the last IP you had is in use it will just give you a new one. It normal best that DHCP mode be in use. edit add: if he is up linking his wireless router to the router that everybody else is using then it should be in DHCP mode and it will connect as if its a device or another PC and his wireless will take care of his local IP for him.

  2. If your phone is Edge/GPRS ready then the bluetooth connects the PC to the phone cable free and AIS real does not have anything to do with that part, but some shops sell bluetooth devices. You could also connect the phone to usb port of laptop with usb cable, or use a card which plugs into laptop and connects direactly to the internet without phone. If yours is an old phone without Edge would say get an aircard that way you can still use the phone when laptop is online. The service from AIS dtac or what ever is edge/gprs. If you need connection to be moble OK, but only going edge/gprs because home has no phoneline then Sat. connection would get alot more speed for the same money.

  3. Personal I never discovered any speed differences between Microsoft based operating systems and others. My early Sun Sparc server was the fastest Ethernet computer I had, but then this speed advantage was hardware based.

Early Sun Sparc Systems had integrated Ethernet controllers which communicated much more direct to the processor, as my early IBM AT-2 systems had 8 bits Ethernet controllers in a ISA slot

Win MS XP Pro - they inhibit 20% of the LAN/WAN bandwidth in their QOS drivers out of the box

Win MS Vista - read the PC side of this message board, huge issues

Do you notice the difference? Yes in some cases you really do notice the difference.

Ah the old sparc BSD days, still have a few Sparc 2's, 10's and 20's here and an old 1 clone with a dead PS. I must say the change over to SunOS in 1989 was a pain, but what we live with today.

I use two OS's now, I switch drives and come up in ether PClinuxOS 2007 or into winXP home. Speed test with my IPstar between the two is purfactly the same both run 256/128 like they should. I even put Opera 9.23 on both and the surfing mode is no diff at all. works fine and both connect DHCP. I do have the DNS set manual but the same in both sys. :o

  4. There are a 1000 great version out there that which cost nothing and have great support networks, and the amount of learning that takes place is just unbeleavable. Reward yourself with a great adventure into the world of LINUX its free, it freedom, its learning. The first car my dad let me buy did not run. He said fix it. :o

  5. Maybe if its set up in a secure way that only honest persons like yourself could use a shared system for professional IT people, then MS would give some sort of permission. Maybe if they know of or have a list of users and they can monitor alittle more whats going on. I know patchs need to be easy for people with lots of PC s to care for. Then MS could save alot of bandwidth too.

  6. I ran the vista upgrade advisor and it said that I am OK for basic. with 1.4Ghz and 512 RAM, but if I want to get the most out of an upgrade should I not have 3G ram and more speed and go with prem. package. Other wise why bother with it, I think basic won't really do anything I don't already have :o ??

  7. I live just outside Phitsanulok and for seven years have waited for phone service. It never came. We just got cell phone in the area a year ago, before that had to drive down the road to the old dead tree site and park to use the cell phone. Sometimes would be 10 people parked there at the same time. I now have Sat. and it provides phone service as well. Many places north don't have things like running water, or phones, and we're talking right close to town. They want it, but its not BKK so its assumed they don't need it. :o

  8. It would be nice to have a single hotline to report things like the spy-shrieff attacks, and only letting effected people report will keep the reporting focused on bad conduct by others. I think by privicy they mean hacking into someones PC, or posting information they should not have about the effected person. It sounds pretty good really.

  9. Pantip Plaza I avoid if I really have to. Too touristy :o

I personally always go to Fortune IT Mall (Ratchada) Next to Grand Mercure Hotel, much more relaxing experience and usually better prices. And no "Sexy Movie Sir" every 5 mins......

Thanks, thats one I didn't hear mention of and Hotel name makes it easyer. I should visit Pantip then and shop at Fortune IT. :D

  10. I am going to Chiang Mai soon and want to do some shopping. Which IT places and where might they be located, would be the best to start. As well I may get down to BKK, I hear alot ref. to a plaza what area is it in, I would be coming in vai Don Muang.

  11. The only thing I need from FOX is my Miller fix now and then. You can get it all online. They post everything and you don't have to watch the stuff you don't need. I get my CNN online as well. TV is going to die. Dishs should be used for internet.

I just told him where. Its on my dish, its online. everything is.

  13. I have old boxes and don't think upgarding to vista would be so good. It would have to be with a new PC and the SP1 at lest. I am starting to like my XP more, back in April I removed Norton AV after problems with renewing, and seems my XP woes were almost all Norton caused. I had crashs like clock work. I have not had one after removing Norton AV.

  14. Yea after tring that one I burned a few more which are kiosk. I don't have a use for them myself, but though they were kind of cool. Someone posted they were using DSL in a resturant and I thougt maybe thats alittle to open even as much as I liked it for other things. The good thing about the kiosks is the way they are so locked down.

  15. :o Wow I don't live at TV so when I logged in and saw not one a post on page one about the ban lift. I was thinking it was fresh and would tell someone. I guess all the locked posts got pushed off the page. At any rate its good even if I never use it and never have and won't anyway. Any bets on how long before its blocked?
