Trying to make race the issue is a form of deflection from the real problems like suicide, alcohol and domestic abuse, lower life expectancy and disproportional number of incarcerations...
They deserve better from a government that confiscated their lands and destroyed their way of living...
Not trying to be difficult but....aren't they personal choices? Their lands were not confiscated, Aboriginals traditionally had no concept of land ownership, it was only what they walked on and gathered food from, it's like owning part of the sky or part of the ocean!

From my travels to outback regions in Australia I think most aboriginals have adapted to, and welcome the western lifestyle, and do not want to return to a hunter gatherer lifestyle, but rather, need to be given opportunities to succeed.
The social justice side of me ???? can easily state that obviously they had land unlawfully taken from them so they should get it back. But the pragmatist in me realises that it is simply not that easy. Besides I think Australia has done much over the last few decades to right the wrongs committed long ago. Kudos to them.
While I agree with what you've said I feel the need to expand on a point or two.
This particular group of Aboriginals are descendants of the third group of invaders to arrive in Oz, who speaks for the first and second wave?
At what point is the fourth wave (British) to blame for individual poor lifestyle choices by these descendants?
Australian aboriginals are Citizens with exclusive additional benefits to the general population, they have land put aside for their exclusive use (non aboriginals require a permit, which they have to pay for, to enter)
They have special rights given to them to hunt and fish so that their traditional skills and diet are available for their use, if they choose to use them.
Additionally, they receive from revenue, up to $1,000.000.000 (a billion dollars) a year to support "special" programs for their exclusive use! This is what Pauline Hanson's "One Nation" party was complaining about when they were accused of being "racist"!
Other nationalities have similar numbers within the general population (Chinese, Italian, Greek or British), should they also get special recognition and rights in the constitution?

Of course you would? Afraid they might distract you from the movie? Good god man, weren't you ever young??

Yes the BBQ guy was the best but I thought comment on that had been done to death in the forum. I interviewed his wife who seemed very sensible and pleasant to me. That led to the follow up story.
Thanks for reading the column - it appears nowadays that it takes a special skill to read 2,000 words, less to cut and paste....... I'm off to try and win some money playing Scrabble....

Just a thought, in Oz they have found that by banning single use bags, that are biodegradable, they have caused a run on garbage bags (that have to be purchased} and are not, to enclose household rubbish. Isn't it a little bit like cutting your nose off to spite your face?

The number of citizens/non-citizens in a country is something I expect people would want to know, and a census is the perfect, anonymous way to determine that.
Australia asks that question in every census since 1911.
Yes, but they used to tear off your personal information and put it into another bag, separate from the census information!

This is your 4th comment on this site? Really? If I didn't know better, I would say that you already have an account on this website. Multiple accounts for the purposes of trolling are forbidden.
Your thumbs must be aching after such a long "tweet", put your thumb back in your mouth, lie down, and dream about the time you last felt happy!

A few years back, there was a special on TV all about Trump’s life. He joined military cadets and rose in rank. And in school he aced in History. Good chance he did indeed know many or all those names.
There’s been a number of times he’s spoken with no TelePrompTer. He’s done quite well at it.
Obama on the other hand, used a TelePrompTer always. Obama could not do a major speech in front of thousands of people without a TelePrompTer.
Trump on the other hand...can, and has, done a few long speeches without using a TelePrompTer as we’ve seen in some of his campaign speeches over the last few years. He’s able to speak “off the cuff” when he wishes for a major speech...an ability that Obama never displayed except perhaps for a talk in front of some women in a small room perhaps.
As far as the military parade...both Eisenhower and John F. Kennedy had much larger ones. Even with missiles.
Trump’s parade was very tiny in comparison.
Many people forget history, or never learned history to begin with. But that’s not surprising these days.
How much history can you read in 8 seconds on an iPhone whilst walking down a street?

Back in 1968, at the age of 22, Trump apparently was the picture of health.
He stood 6 feet 2 inches with an athletic build; had played college football, tennis and squash; and was taking up golf. His medical history was unblemished, aside from a routine appendectomy when he was 10.
But as soon as he graduated from college in the spring of 1968, making him eligible to be drafted and sent to Vietnam, he "mysteriously" received a diagnosis of bone spurs in his heels.
The diagnosis resulted in a coveted 1-Y medical deferment, exempting him from military service as the United States was undertaking huge troop deployments to Southeast Asia, inducting about 300,000 men into the military that year with 16,592 killed.
That deferment was one of five Trump received during Vietnam. The others were for education.
And people are supposed to believe he honours the country and military?????
Of course, you would also know that many hi-so's sons were never called up? They only wanted the dumb clucks as cannon fodder...don't you read history?

No need to read it I was here,OK the THB was devalued,
and it was a good time to buy property, which I did,but
the THB bounced back, and even with another coup,
which would have affected other countries badly,
Thailand just kept sailing ahead, with the THB been
very strong ,even against major currencies.
Then you have the tourist industry, with many bad
reports,about scams,treatment of Farangs,changes
in immigration rules ,etc, etc, tourist still flock in,
in huge numbers = Teflon Thailand.......for now,anyway.
regards Worgeordie
But then, why the need to force long stay "farang" (allowed by Scrabble) to load up their bank accounts? Could Thai banks need the liquidity? I'm not sure how many farang live long term in the Kingdom, it must be approaching 100,000, that by THB 800,000 = 80,000,000,000! Even allowing only 5 months a year its still a hefty sum to be lying around?
Could one see a rise in the farang deposit requirement, in the future, to offset the inability of Thai people to continue saving?
Just a thought!

The EX.org rate for the pound is now a sickening 38.88 if your paid in pounds into the bank and have to change there its 38.5 in a never ending cycle of down 30% less in 3 years ????
So long as the "phu Yai's" continue to gouge baht out of the country and ship the money overseas the value of the baht will continue to rise, these rapacious S.O.B's. don't care how much damage they do to the country, they can always move to the UK or the US!!!

What are you saying? It's OK to stab in the neck an unarmed combatant and for your fellow medic then to 'put him out of his misery'? Is it OK to snipe & murder civilians? When one listens to US counterinsurgency leaders claim the foregoing actions only lead to further US deaths & bearing in mind Afghan military and civilian deaths at the hands of Islamists exceed US casualties by the tens of thousands, what say you?
You weren't there, I didn't see, only the people concerned can judge? Time to move on??

Unless you have served in the military, especially in a combat zone, you are not qualified to give an opinion.
To accuse a soldier of murder in an active war zone is nonsense! So the soldier is only allowed to kill in an "authorised" way?? Snowflake mentality!

I don't know? The student tried one on, got caught, was punished! Any older Thai father would have acted exactly like the P.E. teacher!
This is how an adult should operate with children. The failure of adults to act as judge and jury has produced this generation of "snowflakes " and SJW's! The students and other "Children" have got away with virtual murder because the previous generation failed to do their duty and failed to train their children to be adults!
