  1. I'm still trying to understand how the prescription system works in Thailand. AFAIK it doesn't exist, I've never seen or heard about any being written. If you need something not legally allowed over the counter I think the only legal way is to go to a hospital who can provide it through one of their doctors and their own pharmacy. Would like to know the real story from someone in the know (and not just hearsay).

I have got a prescription from a doctor at the small hospital next to the naval base in Sattahip. It wasn't for me but for my girls son. Reason was so that we shouldn't have to go back to the hospital again for a refill.

I tried to buy his medicine at Fashino on Pattaya Nua and first time I got it no problem. Second time I was told I could not buy it without a prescription, so I went to get the one I had laying around in my car.

Went back in with the prescription and they filled it for me without problems.

So yes, there is prescription system here in Thailand. I'm surprised that the OP has not been able to get a doctor here to write one for him, but it could be that you need to find the right doctor that are allowed to write prescriptions for the specific drug.

However one would assume that any major hospital should have at least one physician on staff that can write the appropriate prescription... :)

they will only write them for meds issued in there own pharmacy as in hospital, then they will only give a prescription for 2 weeks meds then you have to go back to see doc and pay OP fees again, doctor told me that was Thai law but i am sure its not,. they wont give a prescription to take away from the hospitals. you found one thats great. only certain doctors are liecenced to issue certain kinds of meds as you say, i found 3 but had to have meds issued by their pharmacy. i wanted it to buy online meds, the company excepted a photo of the med box issued by the hospital. they also gave me 100% free meds on top as gesture of good will. i tried 4 doctors then gave up as i found a solution. if i need one again i will try the hospital in Sattahip. yes the hospitals have the staff but you cannot take the prescription away, hospital rules according to the doctors. more cash for the hospital i suppose.

  2. i am sure the owner of the happy Elephant would be able to accomadate if its possible. he and his family own a lot of the land around that area, i rented many houses around there and they were all linked to the same family. they showed me lots of differnt places they wanted to sell, from beach front land to land up in the hills.

  3. they could not even enforce the curfew in Pattaya so i doubt this will stand up, places like soi 6 survive on day time drinkers. not heard anybody mention it , so they obviously not informed the people here as yet. all the air con bars allow smoking unfutunatly

  4. Car broke down yesterday morning in central Pattaya, about 6 in the morning, after trying to get it sorted the wife called the the AXA 24 hour breakdown service. it took over 3 hours to come but they kept ringing us to keep us informed. anyway breakdown vehicle arrived loaded the car on the back, took it and me to a garage near home. 200 baht later fixed and back on the road, great service, we even got a call after to see if the driver was ok.

AA insurance, cheaper and great service.

  6. If you or anybody has lost a well taken care of golden labrador he has turned up at the Canine Shelter at Lake Maprachan, post if you have details please. the sancturay has 90 dogs now and really does not need another. if it is not claimed in a few days it will be up for rehoming if anybody wants a golden labrador.

as always anybody wishing to donate also welcome, the place is founded from house rentals which are becoming empty and therfore no money for the dogs to be taken care of.

5 spanials all same family available, but mainly this is about the lab as the owner maybe worried.

  7. I dont have any license in the UK for bikes.. Yet they always add that level and motorcycles on my IDP when I get one..

Hence you would be licensed.. and if they have insurance also insured.

Incorrect ! Any IDP issued in the UK will duplicate your UK licence 100 % :)

Simply not true.. Wanna make a bet of it ??

I have perhaps 8 or more uk IDP's issued over the last 15 years.. In the UK I have zero bike licensing..

The IDP in front of me says I am entitled to ride "motorcycles, with or without a side car, invalid carriages, and three wheeled motor vehicles with an unladen weight not exceeding 400kg (900lb)".. That stamp is in every single one of the IDP's I have had legally issued.

I also notice now as I look at it, that this time they have stamped HGV (class C) and passenger vehicles (class D) and these are not consistent, some of my IDP's have them some dont.

But the bikes class is on every IDP issued over a 15 year period. From the RAC, the AA and the post office.

if your LivinLOS would it not be easier just to get a Thai licence

  8. its half the trouble, i learnt that years ago in the UK, they occupy themselves. they should settle down in a week or so, i rescued 2 dogs a few months ago, one always got out the garden for the first few days, then he realised we always came back he selltled down, although he loves the trips out in the car. both pit bulls abandoned, would love to get them rehomed as i have to return to th UK in September.

  9. never ever been asked for a driving licence to rent a bike in Thailand, all they need is your passport, if you can rent off a farang all the better as they usually do not take passports or sometimes just a copy. insurance will be very basic if at all. your holiday insurance probably only cover upto 49 cc which they do not for rent. where are you going in Thailand maybe worth posting on that forum for a farang motor bike rental company. dont hand over your passport.

what insurance are you thinking about, as in insurance for your bike, other peoples property if you cause the accident or accident health insurance. none will be covered by the basic bke insurance.

without international licence or Thai licence you are not legally not allowed to drive a bike in Thailand, but you will get what ever you want but not insured and not legal, therfore all accidents will be down you paying for every thing. if its a fatality you could end up in prison and or paying a furtune to the family

  10. i was unemployed when i took my GF back, we got tourist visa, 2 year join unmarried partner, then Indefinate Leave to Reamin every time i was unemployed

i had to show i had a property and funds sufficent to support her, i my case at the time it was 60K sterling. you will never really know until you apply.

have you mailed the Border Agency or Embassey in BKK and asked them. thats how i did it plus my MP contacted the Home Office for clarifycation. that helped that he got involved.

  11. who will own it then--------you are aware of what often happens i hope.

you can loan cash to a thai company and the company owns the land and leases back to you.

not sure what position you hold if any legally in co. though--------there are some legal loopholes still i believe.

Thai Mother in law to initially own the house with a usufruct for life to myself. After a couple of years she will gift the house to my wife.

:D one born every minute :)

I'm not sure why you replied, maybe instead of making a snide remark you could try and add something constructive

I guess that getting posters opinions on wanting to buy a 10m villa for 5m and get guarantee that I can live in it for the rest of my life, I suppose there are many of us born evey minute who would like to do that. Obviously unlike yourself

how can you guarantee you live in it for the rest of your life? i really really would like to know. would you just buy a house and just give it to a mother in law in your own country. dont do it, buy a condo for a silly price in your name but not a house in the mother in laws name. when are people going to learn.

  12. just the start these people dont give up, re-election then yellows will start, no election then continous campaign by reds. they like the IRA learnt you only get attention in the capital city. as soon as IRA started bombing the fianacial areas of London they got some where. that coupled with the fact they ran out of money as there main sponsers suddenly realised terrorism was not a good thing to contribute to. how ever the Reds can still buy petrol.they will learn as the IRA did to make more sofisticated devices. dont forget the guys down south who are still bombing and killing, getting closer to tourist areas as in Surat.

i would not bring a kid of mine anywhere near here, many of my friends are trying to get their kids out of here. Bangkok is always going to be a target for reds, yellows and who knows the muslim seperatist.
