Thailand maintains neutral stand over conflict in Myanmar : Panpree
rudi49jr replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Yeah right, Thailand is neutral. Don’t make me laugh. The Thai military is awfully chummy with the Tatmadaw and the leaders of the illegal military regime, and Thai businesses are doing business like gangbusters with that regime. It’s all about money, money, money. -
Chiang Mai declares more districts as disaster zones amid wildfires
rudi49jr replied to webfact's topic in Chiang Mai News
This is what the map looks like today, many ‘hot spots’ with numbers over 200, 300 and even 400. Pretty soon you will see numbers over 500. Imagine having to live there…. But soon the rainy season will start, the smog will clear and everyone will forget about it. Until it starts again. The never ending cycle. -
Chiang Mai declares more districts as disaster zones amid wildfires
rudi49jr replied to webfact's topic in Chiang Mai News
So they declared another couple districts as disaster zones. Does that change anything? May as well set up a few more committees to monitor the situation. Bottom line is that the authorities just don’t care, and can’t be bothered to do much about it. Absolutely appalling. -
Myanmar Junta Used Chartered Plane To Fly Cash From Mae Sot To Yangon
rudi49jr replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I would bet my life that a portion of that cash found its way to the pockets of several Thai officials, and then the rest was flown to Yangon. No way the Thai authorities would pass up an opportunity like that to make a little extra tea money. -
Trump: Would be a "great honor" to be jailed for gag order violation

Trump: Would be a "great honor" to be jailed for gag order violation
rudi49jr replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Wow, that is a deeply disturbing comment. Especially coming from the member (no pun intended) who obviously has the biggest Trump boner of everyone on this forum. And that’s saying something, you have some stiff competition there. Again, no pun intended. -

Air Pollution Spurs Lung Cancer Spike in Northern Thailand
rudi49jr replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
More than 20 years of heavy air pollution 4-6 months every year, and people actually get sick from that? Gee, what a shocker. Anyone want to bet the Thai authorities are going to spring into action immediately now? I’m not holding my breath. -
NY judge issues gag order on Trump in hush money trial
rudi49jr replied to Social Media's topic in World News
You should try reading the garbage he keeps spouting on his Truth Social. Which he claims is doing great, but of course that’s a huge lie, because it’s hemorrhaging money, and probably going to be the next in a long line of Trump business failures. The Trump brand is going down in flames. -
I may have to spend 3 months in Hua Hin, from around June 15 until September 10. I have never spent a rainy season in Hua Hin, so I was wondering if someone could enlighten me. How hot and humid is it really? When I was younger I could tolerate the heat pretty well, but I’m getting a little older (am 65 now) and I’m finding out that I’m beginning to lose that tolerance. So it would be good to know what I can expect in Hua Hin from June until September.

NY judge issues gag order on Trump in hush money trial
rudi49jr replied to Social Media's topic in World News
If you had read my post, you would have seen that I wasn’t disputing that it’s 34 counts of falsifying business records. I was just adding that even though it’s 34 counts of falsifying business records, each count is punishable by up to four years in jail. There, was that so hard? -

I didn’t say maybe. I said ‘that may be’. Can you see the difference? -

rudi49jr replied to Social Media's topic in World News
That may be, but each count of falsifying business records, a felony, is punishable by up to four years in prison. You do the math. -

Khon Kaen parents forced to pay ‘tea money’ for student admission
rudi49jr replied to webfact's topic in Isaan News
Just one of the many (many!!) scams people in a position of power in Thailand play on their fellow Thai. My girlfriend has told me plenty of stories (which I won’t/can’t repeat here) of the things she’s had to do to keep her children in school, or to get certain permits, or to get certain things done. The upside is that there’s a lot possible when you have money. The downside is that it creates and sustains an increasingly corrupt society, where those who can’t pay the bribes get left behind. It also looks to me like the people demanding bribes are becoming greedier and greedier. -
Thai condo market dominated by Chinese and Russian investors
rudi49jr replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Anyone want to hazard a guess as to how much ‘black money’ is being laundered this way? I wouldn’t be surprised at all if it’s a huge percentage. -

Anutin urges Phuket officials to get tough with foreign offenders
rudi49jr replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Instead of playing that xenophobia card over and over again, why not urge officials in the north to get off their backsides and get tougher on the arsonists who are responsible for a quite notable drop in number of tourists because of the suffocating smog they are causing? -
NY judge issues gag order on Trump in hush money trial
rudi49jr replied to Social Media's topic in World News
He provided an extremely reliable, trustworthy and unbiased source: Fox News (sarcasm alert). I remember their slogan from years back: ‘fair and balanced’. Didn’t believe it then, believe it even less now. Nothing but (ultra) right wing crap and the most insane conspiracy theories. How those ‘anchors’ keep a straight face is beyond me. -
NY judge issues gag order on Trump in hush money trial
rudi49jr replied to Social Media's topic in World News
That doesn’t take away from the fact that Donald Trump keeps whining like a little *****, and keeps making outrageous statements about people (the daughter of the judge in question, in this case) that could put them at risk, because it puts them in the crosshairs of his deranged followers. -

Northern Thailand grapples with severe global air contamination
rudi49jr replied to snoop1130's topic in Isaan News
Maybe if the police started doing their job, and start hunting down the arsonists and handing down 10,000 baht (or 20,000 baht) fines. And increasing fines for repeat offenders. I don’t think that’s going to happen any time soon (or ever), but if it did, I’m sure lots of people would start thinking twice before starting a fire. -
Northern Thailand grapples with severe global air contamination
rudi49jr replied to snoop1130's topic in Isaan News
Jeez dude, way to drag in a totally unrelated topic, i.e. that idiotic conspiracy theory that the globalist billionaire elite would want the commoners to stop eating meat. No doubt there is a globalist billionaire elite, but they have absolutely no interest in people eating less meat. The vast majority of millionaires and billionaires is only interested in one thing: mo’ money, mo’ money, mo’ money. They actually profit from people continuing to eat meat, and would profit even more if people would start eating even more meat. But anyone with half a brain can see that eating less meat would be a lot better for the environment and the planet as a whole. -
Will is right. Several European airlines, like KLM, Lufthansa, Swiss and Austrian have introduced this. You book a ticket, but you’re only allowed one carry-on and you have to pay extra for checked luggage. It’s a real rip-off, because they charge like 50-60 euro (one way) for one suitcase.
