  1. Tak Bai was just a tiny fraction of the number of deaths that happened on Thaksin’s watch. “In February 2003, the Thai government, under then Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, launched a 'war on drugs', purportedly aimed at the suppression of drug trafficking and the prevention of drug use. In fact, a major outcome of this policy was arbitrary killings. In the first three months of the campaign there were some 2800 extrajudicial killings. In 2007, an official investigation found that more than half of those killed had no connection whatsoever to drugs. Apart from the thousands who lost their lives, thousands more were forced into coercive "treatment" for drug addiction.” How about an apology for all those deaths? https://www.hrw.org/news/2008/03/12/thailands-war-drugs
  2. Please go bother someone else.
  3. There are several websites that report the air quality of places all over the world, including Koh Chang.
  4. I was originally planning to move to Koh Chang (Thailand) when I retire at the end of this year, but after monitoring the air quality there for the last few months (which was mostly not good) I’ve been having second thoughts. So now I’m exploring other options, one of which is Nha Trang. The air quality, for starters, seems to be a lot better there than in most of Thailand. Now I would like to know a few things about living in Nha Trang. * What kind of visa would I need? I am Dutch, by the way. * What’s the cost of living? I’m single, not much of a drinker or party-goer or anything like that. A one or two bedroom apartment would be quite okay for me, doesn’t have to be centrally located. * Is there a good hospital in Nha Trang? * Is health insurance compulsive? Or recommended? * Are there any good supermarkets in Nha Trang that sell western food, like peanut butter, pasta, stuff like that? I’m just trying to gather as much information as possible, so anything you can offer will be very welcome. Thanks!
  5. Can you imagine the reactions if von der Leyen did a similar speech in the USA and chewed Trump and his MAGA lot out? The outrage, the indignation, the thousands of death threats? Just saying….
  6. Donald Trump is a petty little man. When you ever say anything bad about him, either real or perceived, you are his mortal enemy for life and he will keep lashing out at you every chance he gets. It’s one of his few great pleasures in life. That, and tooting his own horn.
  7. So what you’re saying is that a rise of fascism/nazism is better than the current situation?
  8. I see Trump and his goons continue to fight windmills. Regular Don Quixote’s, the lot of them. Drill baby, drill….
  9. “Europe’s Far-Right Leaders Rally Behind Trump, Call for a Conservative Revival” This has nothing to do with ‘conservatism’, just bat crap crazy extreme right wing nutbags who want to return to the dark ages of the 1930’s in Europe. And we all know what the result of that was.
  10. Scratch free school lunches, use $100 million to build a ‘much needed’ White House ballroom. Trump certainly has his priorities straight, doesn’t he?
  11. Just like Trump trying to pin this on DEI.
  12. What do you mean? These are facts. You can look them up yourself if you don’t believe it.

  15. Yes, let’s arrest, torture and/or execute drugs users and small time drugs peddlers, and leave the kingpins in peace so they can make a fortune and spread that wealth around amongst the powers that be.
  16. This just in: Denmark is going to spend 2 billion euro to strengthen Greenland’s defense capabilities. So on the one hand, Trump has gotten his way: a NATO member is going to spend considerably more money on defense. On the other hand, they do that to keep another NATO member (the USA) from using their military to take Greenland by force. These are weird times that we live in.
  17. Anything to stick it to the ‘socialists’, right? Although you have no clue what socialist, communist or radical left really means. Other than parroting your Dear Leader and using those words to describe anyone/anything you don’t agree with.
  18. Why so condescending about the Greenland government? You don’t think it speaks for its people?
  19. Trump can’t handle anyone openly standing up to him, especially not when it’s a woman who’s obviously a lot smarter than Trump. Remember how he went after that female bishop last week, who just asked him to treat everyone with decency and compassion?
  20. Can you share with us which company?
  21. That’s a rhetorical question, right?
  22. The standard reaction of any Thai government official, when faced with a problem, is to do nothing. That’s either because a) there’s no money in it for them, or b) to avoid making waves and causing embarrassment and/or loss of face. When they do take action, it’s usually only because they see an opportunity to make some extra money.
  23. His salary is just a fraction of his income….
  24. He can’t vote for Trump cause he’s a Kiwi. But he certainly has a huge man-crush for the guy…
  25. It’s not just Elon Musk, it’s (almost) every ridiculously rich billionaire, and big corporations. Their interests are diametrically opposed to that of ‘the common man/woman’. They have power and money and will do literally anything to hang on to that, or to get even more power and money. If that means that Joe Schmoe can’t have a liveable wage, or universal health care, or affordable housing or whatever, then so be it, they really don’t give two hoots.
