That is not correct either as English is a context based language. Take the words so, or sew, or sow or sow. They sound alike but are written differently and have different meanings. For instance so means 2 things, as an adverb or as a conjunction. Sew means needlework, and is a verb and can be used in past participle, sowed or sewn, sews in present participle. But not to be confused with sow meaning to plant seeds or sow, the same spelling, but different pronunciation meaning a female pig. And that is only one word, if used in a different context can mean something completely different. IMHO the English language is easy to parrot but hard to get the right context. That is without British regional variations. Now if you go to English wot is spoke in other areas of the world you can end up with English English US English Canadian English Australian English Indian English Pakistan English Philippine English. and all the other versions of English (with regional variations) spoken worldwide. There is no laid down version of a standard English language as most English speaking countries have incorporated bits of their own language as well. Good luck to anybody who teaches English and better luck to the students. Imagine a class of Thai students, who in their first year are are taught by a teacher from Glasgow with a broad accent, the next year they are taught by an Indian English teacher and in the 3drd year by an Australian. It would be like learning a new language every year.

Fluorescent LED strip light upgrade ARRRR!!!!!!
billd766 replied to Daffy D's topic in The Electrical Forum
I find it easier to replace the fitting and tube at 1 go. All I need to do is cut the power, unscrew the chocolate block connector at the tube side, unclip the fitting, replace the fitting and reverse the process. Yo me, the hardest part is using the steps, as I am 79 with a balance problem and I don't like going more than 2 or 3 treads up a step ladder. -
I have to renew mine before June 2024 and I will use an agent based in Samut Prakan. I can do this online and send all the stuff by Thai post. I will also transfer all the money directly from my Thai bank to his and that will save a problem if the passport office won't accept my KBank debit card. Another bonus for me is that after I get all the documents together is that my wife only needs to drive me 6km to the post office and somebody else will have the hassle of Bangkok. I am 79 and live in rural Kamphaeng Phet about 375 km from Bangkok. Granted that we can stay with my wife's brother and his family overnight, she will have to drive me as I don't drive anymore. The next morning she will have to take me to the Trendy building, find somewhere to park after dropping me off, pick me up when finished and take me back home again. TBH, that will be hard on her and not so easy for me. There is the cost of fuel both ways plus food etc. IMHO it is easier and not that much more expensive for people like me to use an agent and save the hassle. I know it will cost me more but I think that it is worth it. However SWMBO may have a different idea.

Spending Money - Should I follow my Friends Advice ?
billd766 replied to AlienBoy's topic in General Topics
My advice to the OP, for what it is worth, is to spend 5 or 10k on your wife first and yourself every 3 months or so and retain the way you are living now, if both of you are happy with it. I am in a similar position to you (I am 79) as my state pension dies with me. Fortunately I have 2 other pensions that my wife will receive the greater portion of, until she dies. Our son (19 years old) who is in college at the moment will receive nothing from my pensions, but the house and land will go to him free and clear. Please do not take your good friends advice except under caution. You are very lucky in having a good wife who will stick with you to the end. I have been married to my Thai wife for 23 years and she is a treasure worth more than I deserve. I, like you want to do the best I can for my wife after my death. -
I think I've gone native for too long.

Can you not answer a simple polite question without deflecting or diverting away from it? Once again. Please point out where I wrote that. -

Do you have a reading and comprehension problem? Please point out where I wrote that. -
As a former engineer I was always taught this simple maxim. If it works, don't screw with it.

HUNDREDS feared dead at Gaza Hospital as Israel denies strike.

Exactly the same rights that you have. I have noticed that in his posts, he has condemned both sides. You have not. -

I wear Bata flip flops outside, haven't worn shoes except at funerals and one wedding in the last few years. I can't remember the last time I wore a tie, or sneakers for that matter. I go barefoot around the house, and I don't even wear a shirt unless I go offsite. At 79 I am still in the pre diabetes stage. As for overweight I weighed 107.9 kg this morning down from my peak in January of 118,1 kg. As for exercise I do between 2 to 2 1/2 hours a day. Not too bad for an old man. How about you? -
Have you ever heard of a deadline to do a job in? As a field engineer installing mobile phone stations world wide for 20 years, if you bring a site on line early, the customer is happy, If you bring it on line late, the customer is NOT happy. Also before we did an update, the update is rigorously tested before it goes out and is installed. That, is called customer satisfaction. Putting my name forward would be a bad plan as writing data is, and never was in my skill set. Building and commissioning cell sites were.

I know I wasn't going to comment, but I went outside for maybe an hour to do some odd jobs. I came back in to find myself logged out again. I logged back in easily enough as I remembered to save my login name and new password to Google password Manager. IMHO whoever upgraded the system, certainly didn't test it fully before installing it.

Unfortunately nothing is idiot proof nowadays. Idiots are getting dumber or smarter, (I am not sure which). 😀 😀 -
Can you tell me the price please?

Trump blasts New York AG amid ongoing fraud trial: ‘I have no rights’

All I read and see in posts etc by Trump is I, I, I, or Me, Me, Me. He seems to completely ignore other people's rights. -
HUNDREDS feared dead at Gaza Hospital as Israel denies strike.
billd766 replied to Social Media's topic in The War in Israel
Of course they would deny it, whether it is true or not. Personally I don't believe that Hamas would do it, but that is only my opinion. -
OK. It seems to me as a former engineer that it is better to do the whole job at one time, rather than in bits and bobs.
-
Thank for the insult. Surely you could have found a better insult than that.

I am not sure if the Thai people do enjoy the company of all the despots of the world. Their governments certainly seem to though.

Tell that to the Glasgow Celtic and Rangers fans and see what results come back. Perhaps Manchester City and United fans really are fraternal brothers under their skin. 🤣 🤣

Then why are you not relocating to Somalia, Ethiopia, Yemen, Syria, North Korea and any of the poorer countries in the world? Surely at least one of them will have something you want.
