  1. Not true at all. In Thailand the people can vote for who they like, but under the current mob of dinosaurs, they get the government that is chosen for them by the same dinosaurs.
  2. I think that for Thailand military hardware is sourced from whoever they can buy it from that offers the highest 'commission'. It doesn't seem to matter whether it fits in with the existing equipment or even if it is really needed, so long as the "commission" is good.
  3. Actually it started as a shop selling farming an kitchen machinery. It was built around the same time as the rest of the houses. I suspect that the shop went bust and the owner converted it into a warehouse (legally or not I have no idea). It was never a factory either.
  4. Another storm in a social media tea cup. A simple mistake which could have been sorted in a few minutes at the PEA office. Why was the office closed? Probably due to the 6 day national holiday. That is why she was asked to wiat for a call back until after the holiday ends tomorrow. She could not have paid the bill anyway due to the holiday. Attention grabber, and stupid with it.
  5. Spread over 14 years that you forgot to mention. That works out to about 4.7 posts per day. There is nothing stopping you from posting more often.
  6. Whilst I agree with you, it was not a firework factory at all, but a warehouse that had been converted from a business of selling farming and kitchen machinery. Now whether there was a planning permit for the change of use, or if it slid through in the time honoured manner I have no idea, though I do have my suspicions. It was probably converted into a warehouse if the original business failed to continue making money for the owner.
  7. I don't give a fig for any so called "political expert" in Thailand or worldwide for that matter. Sure by the law of averages, they will be right sometimes and any normal person who makes a guess would be right also.
  8. Good luck for him. If it were me I would only tell the lowest number of people that had to know and I certain would not announce it on the social media. One problem in announcing it on social media is that his family may suddenly increase in size and the number of begging hands may multiply. Invest his newfound fortune in building a house for his family. A good idea as is keeping his job at 36 years old.
  9. Thank you for that link as I found it a very interesting read. It seems that many of the ideas of 90 years ago are coming to life though not necessarily as thought of at the time. That lead me on to look up airships. For those of us who prefer a slower but more comfortable ride. https://www.thrillist.com/travel/nation/future-of-airships-new-planes
  10. I am lucky in that I have a couple of other pensions, but there are UK pensioners worldwide who are much worse off than me.
  11. It was never built as a godown in the first place but as a shop selling farming and kitchen equipment. It was converted into a warehouse later. I would assume planning permission was either not applied for or the paperwork was fudged. I don't think planning permission would have been granted (perhaps fudged though) to store fireworks and/or explosives.
  12. If I had my druthers I would prefer an electric golf cart to a Tuk Tuk, but they have old style batteries and a 48v power supply. https://www.marshell.net/GolfCart/index_1.html 4 Seater Golf Cart DG-M4 Lead-acid batteries / Lithium batteries /(solar-powered)(optional) All lights system is LED. New Speedo, big size and easy operation Bigger seat and backrest, all foaming seat, soft and conformable. When I went a little deeper I found that they offer the choice of power supply, Lead-acid batteries / Lithium batteries /(solar-powered)(optional) I have seen one model from a different company whose name I think is Gem, that has a ramp and a place for a wheelchair.
  13. I am not however, like you I have no vote or voice in Thailand. What I do have is a 19 year old son (birthday on 1st August) who has recently started at Chiang Rai Uni. I am concerned that he may wander into a problem by accident (or not) and that his Mum and I are 500 km away.
  14. Having no vote or voice in Thailand it doesn't matter if we accept it or not. Probably because they have the tanks, guns and power to back themselves up against unarmed civilians.
  15. In Prawits case it would be more like dull skuggery. Usually they have graduated from a 7th rate military academy.
  16. That will make the guy who cuts my grass happy. He works in the Mae Wong national park, and cuts my 5 or so rai on his days off.
  17. According to the Bangkok Post (no quote), the owners originally opened the building as a shop selling farm equipment and kitchenware. The shop was later converted into a warehouse, which it never was designed as in the beginning. Whether the owners ever got permission is another question.
  18. I got a little confused when I read the headline saying "fans" instead of vans. I also believe that they are not necessarily for foreigners, but for the Thai people who may be arrested for protesting. I would think that they probably called the vans and crews in from other provinces, and that they will return them and their crews when they are finished with them. That is only my thoughts and opinion.
  19. When I read the WaPo link I found that of the 256 days of his presidency, he has all or part of 75 days at Camp David (the unofficial designated getaway for presidents) and 68 days overseas. Those 68 days spent overseas are most probably working days and at Camp David he probably was working part time as well. Whilst the WaPo did not necessarily lie, it also didn't mention what President Biden was actually doing, whilst away from the White House, who else was there or who he met at the time. At least he wasn't playing golf all the time at the US taxpayers expense for himself or flying his security crew and the aircraft crew to stay and one of President Biden's golf resorts offshore. AFAIK President Biden doesn't own any resorts. There is more info in the link if anyone is interested in digging a bit deeper.
  20. But the government will tell you that the elderly DO get a rise. However they only get the rise, a whopping 100 baht extra every 10 years. At 60 it is 600 baht per month At 70 it is 700 baht per month At 80 it is 800 baht per month At 90 it is 900 baht per month At 100 it becomes the enormous sum of 1,000 baht per month with NO rises in the intervening years. In the village that I live in I only knew 1 man who lived to be 100 and he died a few weeks after his 100th birthday. His unmarried daughter looked after him.
  21. Successive governments don't care about that as those in power have plenty of money and perks, and the poor and elderly are just a drain on the countries resources. The attitude is let them eat cake, and let their families look after them. An attitude found in many countries worldwide. Or in Royal Navy speak, "Pull up the ladder Jack, I'm all right".
  22. My day came in May 2009 and it has stayed at that rate for the last 14 years.
