No argument from me about that, but I thought the thread was about sexual attraction, not platonic friendship. I've been in a few platonic friendships myself. Are the "gay guys" OK with luring women for a shagger mate ie being exploited?

Rare earth elements on their way out of EVs?
thaibeachlovers replied to placeholder's topic in The Green Forum
Plenty of info out there on the next generation of nuclear power. I'm surprised you haven't seen it. As you seem to be into non polluting means of power production I didn't think I needed to provide a link. Did it for you now. Note the reference to CHEAPER. https://www.vox.com/science/23702686/nuclear-power-small-modular-reactor-energy-climate-change Smaller, cheaper, safer: The next generation of nuclear power, explained it's the only way to provide enough power for all the extra billions coming soon. Short of nuclear fusion, what else could provide enough electricity? The wind doesn't always blow, the sun doesn't always shine, big windmills cost too much for poor countries ( or they'd have them already ), and have recycling problems; solar takes too much space and are also expensive for poor people. It's fine if all they use them for is the internet and a couple of lights- a small one will do. try charging a truck with a small solar panel. -
Perhaps he just likes knowing that his genes will live on. I could be wrong on that though. My own father didn't give a rat's bottom about his direct male offspring either. I suppose it's partly revenge that his direct bloodline dies with me. Had I cared, I might have tried harder to reproduce. I did have the opportunity with my first partner.

I read your link and the only reference to Hamas is the bit I bolded. I would have expected more to be made of capturing Hamas commanders than three words in a long article. I'm not saying that it's not true, but that isn't much to go on. They don't say who they are, or their seniority, so they could be just minor commanders, equivalent to NCOs. Military spokesperson Daniel Hagari told reporters on Friday that Israeli forces have detained more than 200 people in the past 48 hours. He said they've taken dozens of them, including Hamas commanders, to Israel for interrogation. -

You really should stop making stuff up, as it just makes you look silly. I did say I hadn't seen any reports of Hamas surrendering, and I didn't say there hadn't been any. I have never said I am a Hamas supporter, so that is not true ( being polite ). Yes, inventing things about other posters is sad. -
I fail to get the link between the Constitution and what I said in the post you quoted. Yu was an "almost" dictator, but he certainly abided within the law of the land. No secret police, no show trials, no people disappearing etc. IMO he was actually popular because he stopped the race riots and looked after good people while putting bad people where they belonged. If he went too far, it was only in making Singapore too sterile, and boring.

One can only hope that it turns out badly for Xi. However, a chaotic China would be catastrophic for the West, now that we are so dependent on Chinese exploited workers for so much of what we consume. It would be worse than catastrophic for NZ that depends on China far too much for overseas income, and probably Australia as well if they can't sell dirt to China any more.

I'm well aware of the French in Indo China, and the Dien Bien Phu disaster. They also had fiascos in other colonised countries eg Algeria. That didn't mean that they were unable to return to Vietnam as part of a western alliance, but chose not to. The South Koreans were a force to be feared in Vietnam. However, I doubt either would wish to be involved in a China vs America conflict now. I can't see any benefit to either in doing so.

NATO chief on Ukraine war: ‘Be prepared for bad news’
thaibeachlovers replied to CharlieH's topic in The War in Ukraine
If I can be so bold as to hazard a guess about that, the European and American long suffering taxpayers will be on the hook to pay for the "reconstruction" of Ukraine. The 1% will not be deprived of the rich pickings from this conflict, even if they don't get to sell as many of those lovely expensive weapons any more, though no doubt the Ukrainians will be re arming with western arms, tanks etc. All good for the 1%. Follow the money. -
Israel is at War - General discussion (pt2)
thaibeachlovers replied to CharlieH's topic in The War in Israel
I think almost everyone except israeli apologists were horrified when the American representative put his hand up against the motion. The one solitary vote against a ceasefire, the only one voting to continue the slaughter of children. Even Britain abstained, as I doubt they could bring themselves to vote for bombing children, in public view. The atmosphere was so intense as the vote was taken, that I almost felt it through the tv. I could be mistaken, but it seemed that the guy was somewhat embarrassed by his solitary vote calling for more death and destruction. I guess he won't be getting many party invites now. I wonder what happened to the previous representative, the woman? I like to imagine that she couldn't take having to vote for death and destruction, and asked to not do it any more. -
Israel and Hamas fight house-to-house battles across Gaza

I can't answer that as I've seen nothing about Hamas fighters surrendering, but you, who are so sure they have, has posted nothing to back up your claim that they have, from a reputable source. Surely you can find something from an official israeli spokesman, perhaps netanyahu himself- surely he would be all over tv praising his valiant troops for capturing Hamas fighters alive, but nothing so far. How about the Americans? Anything from them as to how the israelis are winning the battle? Come on man, if Hamas was surrendering by hundred, or even by the dozen, it would be HUGE news, and all over the media. A few dozen civilians in their underpants isn't really much of a coup though. Rather sad, actually, and does not show israelis in a good light that they would treat anyone like that. Bit puzzling though, that the vdo must have come from an israeli soldier, as if they were victorious after a hard fought battle, instead of just rounding up some civilians that were in the wrong place. -
Well I had cancer and had it removed, but it didn't make me "healthy" again, so that might not be the best example to use. If talking about bad people, there's a lot of them around the world, but you haven't spoken about them, just Hamas. Why is that? However, I agree that it would be good to remove bad people, but where to begin? I suppose all warmongering leaders would be a good start, except there wouldn't be many left to govern any more.

I've seen nothing about Hamas surrendering. If you are so sure they are then you should post a link about it. It's not up to me to verify your claims of fact. If I despise links so much, why do I post so many? -

and yet you have no link from a reputable source quoting an israeli or American official spokesman saying that Hamas fighters are surrendering in the south. You really will have to do better than an israeli propaganda vdo from the Daily Mail. The only bit in the entire vdo that related to fighters "surrendering" was a few seconds of a couple of men crawling out of a hole in the ground, which could have been anyone, and some ammunition which could have belonged to anyone. The vdo also contained footage of the so called Hamas tunnels in the hospital which turned out to reportedly be a lift shaft and a tunnel apparently built by the israelis themselves. -

If you know that you'll be tortured and likely come to a sticky end if captured you would probably fight to the death unless wounded too badly to resist. You posted no valid link about fighters in the south surrendering. The article saying that they were in Khan Yunis, is probably of the same men arrested in the north. It's all on same vdo as seen on Al Jazeera. If it were actually true, the IDF would be having a news conference about it ( like they did about the civilians arrested in the north ), which you could link to, but you haven't have you, as likely one doesn't exist. If Hamas fighters were actually surrendering, the Americans would be spreading the word with glee as how the valiant israelis were winning the conflict, but they ain't, are they? However, I will agree with something from one of your links https://www.i24news.tv/en/news/israel-at-war/1701980659-over-150-hamas-terrorists-surrender-to-idf-forces-in-khan-yunis Ari YoDec 08, 2023 ...................................... Now, no one is going to like this, however, The IDF and their families are losing soldiers that are approaching (in numbers) just about the same amount Israel has had returned in hostages (or what should be left in hostages, look at it either way). The point, sadly, fallen soldiers don’t return home to their families. And everyone wants everyone home with their family. -
NATO chief on Ukraine war: ‘Be prepared for bad news’
thaibeachlovers replied to CharlieH's topic in The War in Ukraine
To disregard the rest of your post, the GOP have finally wised up to the reality that Russians were not going to fold easily, and run away, despite western propaganda. Simply put, Aragorn isn't going to ride in with an army of the dead and put the orcs to flight. It's going to be a long fight, and it's a bottomless pit for western money, for a conflict that was never what it was conflated to be- a cataclysmic battle between the forces of good and darkness. When it's all over it's going to be just another European stoush, till the next one comes along. -
If I wrote down some of the things I am aware of, it'd just get deleted as it's pretty far out in the demented spectrum. Not that I've ever done any of it myself, not being into pain or humiliation, though I once did allow myself to be tied up and had hot candle wax dripped on me. Being tied up really freaked me out so never again.
