  1. IMO we passed that point long ago and replaced it with love of money/ materialism/ celebrity and BS. Humanity is becoming, IMO, a ship without a rudder, going this way and that way, depending on the latest fad, whether it's about man made climate change, or multiple genders, or some as yet unknown fad.
  2. I agree that fanaticism is a bad thing, and can hand on heart say I've never been fanatical about anything, though some might say I'm fanatically cynical ( Best way of surviving life I've heard of is to treat everything as BS till proven otherwise- had I learned that at the age of 18 I'd have had a much better life, but I digress ).
  3. Well, someone has to say something other than <deleted>.
  4. Let's be honest. How many of us would live in LOS if we had to live like a Thai, on a Thai average income? I wouldn't.
  5. You just posted what is very relevant to me. I have become clumsy, and unsteady, and acquired a troublesome, painful, dominant arm, which seems more about tendon or ligament damage than joint pain. The arm problem is severe if it prevents me doing any projects, as they are my life now. If I can't do something useful ( I recently made a few garden planter boxes for a friend ) I will get depressed, which will lead to other problems, such as overeating. While I am not nearly as strong as I used to be I'm no weakling, but if not used I'll lose it. As for mental problems, just the usual- forgetfulness, getting things wrong etc.
  6. Thanks for the concern, but alas I can never live in LOS again and such just ain't happening in this country ( the only women available to me look like grannies, and I'm never going there ). Even if I could afford to live in LOS I couldn't cover serious medical bills, which is the reason I left Thailand in the first place. Not to worry though, it is what it is and I have no problem with embarking on the next great adventure.
  7. ?????????????? They already sent lots of astronauts to the moon so they have proven life support systems. Did they hide the previous information away and forget where they put it? Needs to be more than marketing. Had they remained in lunar orbit for a long time mapping the surface in prep for a base I'd have no problem with it, but a fly by- puleeese.
  8. LOL. Are you seriously expecting anything on CNN about Trump is unbiased?
  9. Well said. One law expert on Al Jazeera said that it appears that all the real charges are about the payments made to Daniels and a couple more alleged pay offs were added to give the impression that it was a regular occurance.
  10. LOL. Do you understand that when I say IMO it's an opinion, not a fact? Do you understand what an opinion is?
  11. What is illegal is that it is alleged that Trump falsified cheque records and ledger entries over the course of 11 months to make it appear that those payments were for "legal fees" and not reimbursements. Fixed it for you.
  12. It's not for me to spend my time researching other posters claims. Try reading this at the top of the World subforum before making silly comments. "Any alleged factual claims must be supported by a valid link to an approved credible source".
  13. Did they not consult all those that claim border wall/ fences don't work, before spending large on it?
  14. For those that thought it was about landing on the moon in preparation for a permanent base, this is far from that. They will just go around the moon, something that was done quite a lot decades ago when people with slide rules designed the rocket and space craft. Sorry, but sounds more like a publicity stunt than anything serious, IMO.
  15. It's an old political ploy- the Romans gave bread and circuses to the mob to keep their minds off the important things.
  16. Given that you state that as a fact, some evidence of that is in order. I don't recall any such.
  17. We are all entitled to our opinions and mine on this is that is more about politics than substance. On Al Jazeera they had a long item about it and had two experts on the law with opposing view points- one that Trump has a serious problem and the other that he has a very good defense against it all. As pointed out, Trump has far more serious cases coming up in the future. Seems agreed that no trial before next year sometime is happening, and no guaranteed guilty verdict and even if guilty, no guaranteed jail time. Sooooo, for those wanting to see him in handcuffs and straight off to jail, LOL. Notable for the complete lack of any civil disorder, despite the best efforts of certain people to ramp up the "threat" of rioting MAGA supporters. Bet all the cops that had their leave cancelled are not impressed. The most disappointed IMO- the media that were hyping it as much as they could had not much to take away- just a motorcade, a bit of VDO in the hallway and a few still photos. No rioting, no disruption ( other than that caused by the city authorities closing lots of roads ), and peaceable as any N Y day.
  18. That saying has been around for ages but it's as bad a bad joke now as it always was. There may be families visiting, but IMO it's never been a family friendly place, which always suited me. Families have the rest of Thailand to ruin so they can go there instead.
  19. It's not just tourist places either. I visited a local "beauty spot" southern end of the MHS loop with my wife, and it was a garbage dump all over. I doubt a single farang tourist ever visited the place. Popular with locals for bars that were just decrepit shacks built along the river.
  20. Not just Larn. Last time I visited Koh Samet in the 90s it was a garbage tip everywhere I went
  21. If anyone has a living parent, they should get them to write down everything about you're young life, and family history. I was lucky enough to get my mother to write some stuff down, and learned a lot I hadn't known about, but now she's gone there are loads of things I should have asked her about. I wasn't able to get my father to do similar, so basically I know nothing about his life at all. I never had grandparents in the same country and they died before I could visit them, so my family history already died. I was given loads of family photos- lots of Victorian era folk, but no information about them. Sometimes it feels a bit sad that being the only son and not having children, my family line will be extinct when I die.
  22. You are a lucky guy that she hasn't "gone to seed". I got back to my 1990's weight after gaining a lot since, but unfortunately my muscle mass has turned to blubber and relocated to my belly button area.
  23. Agreed. Why bother taking the chance of having to pay off the cops, when one can do it from the comfort of one's home.
  24. You do realise I hope, that because they are "freelancers" if they take the opportunity to steal everything they can get their hands on, you, and the cops, probably have zero chance of finding her again. If for nothing else, a girl from a bar offers some protection on that regard.
  25. Nah. IMO he's just damned. I hope they have reserved a spot in one of those multi prisoner cells for him.
