  1. I can speak from personal experience why the M16 was easier to carry around than an SLR, but on the firing range the larger caliber was evidentially superior in taking down the enemy. We used steel plates to shoot at, and we could hear the M16 rounds hit the plate without knocking it over, but the SLR round would knock it over every time.
  2. He did his best to make the wall a fact, and it was only that other politicians wouldn't fund it that meant it wasn't completed. I bet Biden is regretting that one of the first thing he did was to stop work on it, leaving gaps for the "undocumented" to pass through on the southern border, which has led to the present crisis, which isn't going away
  3. Hmmmm. Replace the word Biden with Trump, and it was no worse than many posts from anti Trumpers on this forum. Are they also worthy of pity?
  4. There is a comparison. Jesus threatened the religious leaders and Trump IMO threatens the Washington establishment. In both cases they are out to remove them from being able to interfere. In Jesus's case by death and in Trump's case by making him unable to stand again, or if he does, by making him lose.
  5. I take it that you are more than an average driver, but for Joe average I will never be convinced that they need a turbo charger on their trips to the supermarket. I've never owned a car with a turbocharger and during my many thousands of miles driven I never had a problem exceeding the speed limit if desired. I also never had to pay to get a turbo fixed. Everything breaks, eventually, so the less to go wrong is always a good thing.
  6. I certainly do as I used to fix vehicles in a past life. IMO the less to go wrong is the way to go with machinery.
  7. I've never understood why anyone that only drives on public roads gets a car with a turbo charger. If one can't drive at 150 kph it's just another thing to go wrong.
  8. I always drive at 90 kph. It's more economical than 100 kph and I get to my destination after about the same length of time. Other drivers can't complain because if I was a truck that would be the legal speed, and I always pull over to let the speed freaks pass when possible. I used to drive to the limit back when petrol was affordably priced, but it's actually more pleasant driving at a more sedate speed. I always laugh like a drain when some <deleted> passes me on a yellow line or by speeding in a restricted speed zone and at my destination I'm right behind him.
  9. The only homosexual that I actually knew about was a technician that I worked with, not that he made a big deal about it at work. I never met any openly lesbian at work, and I don't recall ever meeting one. It's just not that common, in my experience. There may have been more but they didn't talk about it. Actually it was rare for anyone to discuss their personal life. I did meet a sergeant in the military ( before he had the op ) that became a trans, but that was way back when it was almost unknown of and he became a sort of celebrity with magazine articles about him/ her. I gather that some people assume that a male nurse is a homosexual, but no one ever suggested that I was ( I'm not ).
  10. I remember them too. They were rubbish and even I knew that way back then.
  11. You'll have to remind me of that. Don't know what you are on about there.
  12. My wife's family was much loved in the village, many of which were family. She, herself, was popular with the locals. I never went to town to sit in some bar leering at the local girls. When I was with my wife I had no interest in playing around.
  13. Has any other poster said that they had a similar experience? I certainly never did.
  14. Pop songs are not about real life.
  15. I've heard of Thai girls who are prepared to go with farangs for free, but I suspect only with young handsome guys, not us old overweight bald guys.
  16. IMO you heard wrong. There is no equivalent that I know of long time in the west except for extremely rich guys and once started one is "on the clock". The only non SEAsian long time that I know of for westerners was in Venezuela, when one could book a holiday at a sex hotel. I have no idea if still in operation. If Thai BGs were just wanting to get it over with, why would they go with customers for weeks or months at a time?
  17. He can be smart and not care about the peasants. Mao was apparently instrumental in killing about 30 million of his own citizens and I haven't heard anyone saying he was an idiot.
  18. I'm not going there, so don't bother trying again.
  19. As I understand it, in x billion years the sun runs out of fuel and while dying it expands to consume all the planets in the solar system.
  20. I admit I'm no scientist but IMO black holes connect to another dimension and eventually suck all the matter from this universe into that dimension where it is compressed into a small very dense sphere which eventually causes another big bang to create another universe, rinse and repeat ad infinitum. If the theory that this universe continues to expand forever, it will do so with a lot of dead suns and planets, once all the suns' fuel runs out.
  21. I'm not trying to point the finger at either side with that post. It's a simple fact that escalation is likely in any armed conflict between powerful nations that are in stalemate. If your analysis is correct then we are caught in a vicious spiral from which there is no escape. Yes, I believe that to be the case, and IMO it either leads to NATO being involved and goodbye to all we knew, or one side gives up. I know which is the better option.
  22. OK, I'd rather have all the ones that didn't murder innocent people on my side than those that want me to be defenceless against well armed criminals.
  23. To be correct, during my time as a nurse I saw so many incompetent managers that I had to assume that was the norm. Other than giving taxpayer money to managers to waste it, government per se wasn't really involved.
  24. When crime is pretty much out of control ( as it apparently is ) I'd prefer those people to be on my side than the sort that want to make us defenceless against well armed criminals.
  25. I have to assume that is addressed to myself. In that case, I don't have faith in any politician I can think of to do a good job, including Trump. Politics is just too barking these days to have faith in them anymore, IMO. I don't want big government spending my tax dollars- I want local government to spend my tax dollars without impoverishing the ratepayers to do so.
