  1. Rarely, I have to agree with you on that. The boffins are already working on human devoid fighting machines. If AI is ever reality, can "the Terminator" scenario be far behind?
  2. How many millionaires convicted of paying off a prostitute end up in Sing Sing? Asking for a friend.
  3. I never said they would lose, and short of NATO joining in I think it will end in a negotiated settlement. Eventually, IMO, it will become politically impossible for western nations in a financial crisis to continue pouring money into Ukraine, and then it's game over for Ukraine, unless they do negotiate. IMO all Russia has to do is hold on and wait.
  4. LOL. I'm sure that if I wanted to I could find a few less than flattering pictures of Joe supporters.
  5. If they had a proper, independent investigation we might find out the answer to that.
  6. Do you have anything of relevance to say on the subject? Stop press- just heard on radio news. Someone in CNN ( didn't catch the name ) said that this case may help Trump politically. That it came from CNN shows that it has to be a consideration. Unintended consequences and all that, LOL.
  7. But what will Russia do if they lose Crimea? Nuke Ukraine? That is exactly why such as I are concerned as to what would happen if Russia were to lose.
  8. Do you have any proof that MAGA voters are less intelligent than those that voted for Joe and his sidekick? How is it going in the world since Joe took over- Afghanistan, southern border, Ukraine etc?
  9. Correct, but how many of the ordinary people will care about the technicalities and will IMO rightly see it as a politically motivated prosecution. This sort of thing is exactly why Trump voters voted for him the first time.
  10. Difference is that Capone didn't have millions of supporters. The Donald does, and IMO if they proceed with this trumped up case ( pun intended ) they will get unintended consequences they will regret.
  11. Agree, It's an outrage that Kissinger is still a free man. Should have been in jail for life after that. However, I was restricting my comments to presidents.
  12. and yet, Britain built advanced aircraft, and was even building missiles till they decided to buy American instead. Far as I know they did so without any foreign money. The Vulcan, IMO, was the most beautiful bomber ever made, and far more attractive than a B52.
  13. We have something in common. I was posted to Nee Soon and had probably the best 2 years of my life in Singapore ( other than a year in Antarctica ). I did go back many years later after the SAF took it over and it was tragic how Transit road had become a decrepit wreck of a street. I assume it's all been redeveloped into high rise flats or a 4 lane highway or something now. I didn't even recognise down town anymore.
  14. I assume he means the British aviation industry, not a particular company. They started the industrial revolution and led the world in innovation, but reduced to making "bits" and moving money around now. My, how the mighty has fallen. I blame it on Haig's insane strategy of sending the best and brightest of British male youth to die in futile frontal assaults on the western front. IMO Britain never recovered from that.
  15. Obviously that's the cheese, but it was a choice between companionship without sex or meaningless sexual relationships.
  16. You are lucky then. I always regret I never got to go back to Antarctica, but I was stupid enough to get myself into a relationship instead. Also, I'd like to have visited Japan and Taiwan. I didn't even go to Aqaba before it got popular or Jordan to see Petra when I was working in Saudi. I had the opportunity, but I'd fallen in love with LOS and never went anywhere else.
  17. Disagree 100%. In the end companionship beats being alone with a string of meaningless sexual temporary relationships. In the end, as Carly Simon sang, "the river doesn't seem to stop here anymore", but companionship lasts till the end, if we are lucky. Don't get me wrong, a string of meaningless sexual temporary relationships beats being alone, PERIOD, but given the choice I'd rather have companionship without sex than sex without companionship.
  18. Welcome to the elder human race. I think everyone regrets that they didn't do more when they could. I certainly do, and I did waaaaaay more than most. As I get older the more the ghosts of the past come to haunt me, and the regret for things not done is my constant companion. One of the reasons I keep posting instead of doing better things is that it helps me forget the regrets. BTW, congrats on still being together. My marriage was my last hope of not being lonely in my last years, and that certainly didn't work out for me. Just for that I envy you.
  19. Over decades I visited everywhere in LOS except Issan. What I've been saying is that based on what I saw, the smile left LOS long ago, so nothing at all to do with present or covid situation. IMO the smile was progressively lost as Thailand became more like the west, and people stopped smiling in western countries I lived in a very long time ago. It's a bit like whistling, which is something people used to do in public when they were happy. I haven't heard anyone whistling in public for most of my life. IMO something has gone very wrong in this Brave New World of ours, and I doubt it will ever get fixed- certainly not in my lifetime.
  20. If real AI is ever created, it's more likely that 100% of jobs will be impacted in some way. Even less than full AI is likely to see millions ( ?billions ) of labour intensive and even white collar work become human devoid. The effects of the machine are already wide spread from less bank tellers to automated factories.
  21. Roll on the Society for the prevention of cruelty to plants!
  22. There are IMO plenty of former presidents that should have been in jail- Nixon for a start, but it's not been the American way to do so, till now. I doubt the Dems care what he's eliminated from standing for, just as long as he can't, which, IMO is what it's always been about.
  23. Good point. However nothing these days surprises me anymore. I half expect to see Hillary trying again.
  24. Your trying to convince me that there are people in the US that don't have an opinion on Trump? I assume the case will be held in New York, so even less chance of that, IMO. I can see any conviction being set aside on appeal for being unsafe.
