  1. Just make them up then. My dream is to win 97 million $ and spend the rest of my life being entertained by high priced escorts while living on my own private island in a mansion larger than that owned by the sultan of Brunei.
  2. Are they having a 'laff? 27 years from now who knows what the world will be like. If the glaciers are already vanishing isn't that a bit long to wait? Besides, weather isn't confined to one country, so it's a bit irrelevant what one country does. BTW, has anyone proven that making the world net zero ( which is impossible anyway given wild fires, volcanoes and melting tundra releasing methane ) will change the weather?
  3. As for their relationship with LOS, it's none of their business how Thailand is run. Would they like Thailand telling them how to run their countries? With mass immigration I think most of us have become aliens in the countries we used to call ours.
  4. I realised that many decades ago, which is part of the reason for my extreme cynicism. I no longer vote for anyone. I vote in hopes of getting rid of someone.
  5. In case you didn't notice, most of the Thai population are too busy trying to make a living to demonstrate in the streets ( IMO ). It's not like the west where the government steals takes other people's money to support the idle dole bludgers with plenty of time to cause trouble.
  6. Anything that makes LOS more like the west, which many of us escaped from with relish, is not welcomed by myself, and I'm sure other farangs. If being run by unelected-unaccountable-bodies is the price to be paid, so be it, in MY opinion.
  7. When I was young, I think the main reason people got married was because the female got pregnant. No pill then, and it was too embarrassing for a young guy to buy condoms in a chemist, which was the only place they were available. NB cling film is not a reliable contraceptive, and the girl jumping up and down afterwards doesn't work.
  8. There are many things that puzzle me about the strange world that I live in, but related to the OP, couple things that have puzzled me for some time is -why do western women want to dress like men, and why have they so readily given up femininity? Seems strange to me that it's accepted for a woman to wear male clothing but not visa versa. Thai women have retained their femininity ( for the most part ) and it doesn't seem to hurt them to do so.
  9. Disney has gone so woke that they ain't worth watching anymore, IMO. I watch Netflix on a relatives tv, but not all the time as don't live with them. They have a pretty good selection of Japanese anime, which is hard to come by in my home country, as people mistakenly think they are for kids.
  10. Have you noticed that the most popular threads on this Pub subforum are the ones about bar girls and lady boys? After all, didn't most of us visit/ move to LOS for one or the other?
  11. I have a fair idea why, but I can't say on here.
  12. I do have freeview tv on which I watch Al Jazeera, but the rest of the channels are so ad replete and the content so boring I wouldn't waste any time on watching them. I'm old enough to remember enjoyable tv shows that didn't have ads every 10 minutes, but that was long, long ago. Nothing on any pay to view channel worth the money, IMO. For viewing entertainment, second hand DVDs are available from charity shops for 1 or 2 $.
  13. I think climate change will bring about mass starvation, as IMO humans have exceeded their welcome on planet earth and seems to me that Gaia is gearing up to reduce our numbers.
  14. LOL. Some of us actually have a life that doesn't involve being on line all day. I have dozens of things I can do that don't involve looking at a screen. Who said I have no interest in the world? Between Al Jazeera and the world news subforum I get as much as I need about what is happening out there. I'd never rely on face thingy, or the twit thing etc which is just as well as I don't go on them.
  15. Online trends - do you know what is happening online? Do you care? No. Other than this forum I ignore almost everything else on line- it's just not worth bothering with, and I have better things to do with my time. Humanity would be better off if social media had never been invented, IMO.
  16. You keep going on about the big picture, so tell us all about it. I'm not interested in playing some bizarro game with you, in which I'm supposed to know what you are on about.
  17. I hope you told the ex GF where to put her head. None of her business. If she'd been a better GF you might have married her.
  18. Most adventurous things carry a risk. Why do people jump out of planes and rely on a bit of material to stop them dying? Why did I go to work in Antarctica over winter, when no evacuation was possible should one have a medical emergency, ( and die )- because it was an adventure.
  19. Antarctic sea ice has varied as long as people have been going there. Shackleton lost his ship because the sea ice was worse than normal the year he tried to cross Antactica, also Scott had worse weather than normal when he died returning from the pole. Doesn't really matter how much sea ice there is, as it makes no difference to sea level, but if the ice shelves all collapsed, we might be in trouble.
  20. At this rate will any forest be left by then- pathetic.
  21. Needs to be zero. About time for those "world leaders" to put up or shut up. So far they have achieved zilch, IMO. Not just Brazil- apparently huge areas of Africa and SEA being deforested.
  22. Fossil fuel allowed mankind to become what it is today, or we'd still be using sailing ships, horses, or walking. Try growing and transporting enough food for 8 billion ( and rising ) people without diesel powered machinery- not going to happen in foreseeable future, IMO.
  23. The new version of nuclear power plant is very attractive as small enough to have locally and they are apparently portable. NZ is mainly hydro, some thermal ( steam from the ground ), but if they get everyone to buy electric cars will have to import loads of coal to make enough electricity for Aucklanders as Huntly is a coal and gas plant.
  24. At least I have an opinion on what WOULD work ( hydrogen ), unlike the empty chorus of voices crying that "we must do something" without ever saying what we should do. It's IMO ludicrous to even suggest that we should all buy expensive electric cars with their polluting rare earth metals and exploited miners in Africa, and limited life span batteries that no one has a clue how to recycle, when most of the vehicles on the planet will continue to use oil for the foreseeable future. All I see are plenty of so called world leaders polluting the atmosphere flying to "conferences" to talk a load of hot air, without coming up with anything that is affordable, achievable and acceptable to most people.
  25. ????? I went there in a bus. No trekking involved.
